Hi Ned many thanks for yet another fantastic and informative video, I realize a lot of work goes into editing etc. I would love to see a lot more of your journeys throughout Europe, I'm 76 now and have been a retired HGV driver for 16 years now. Very best regards from North Wales..
Hi I am new to the channel I subbed a few days ago.I am not a trucker myself but as front line workers that you Truckers are I have huge respect for you all.Keep it up
Thanks ned, great video.Terrible the blanc tunnel fire I remember iit well.Thank the lord I wasn't in it.R.I.P. all who died.Have yourself a good weekend.
I just love your DAF. I used to work where they are manufactured in Leyland Lancashire in the 70s it’s now Leyland Trucks owed by Paccar. I do think they make a fine product, tell us what you think as a driver. From Tom in Lancashire England peace and god bless to you Ned. And thank you.
The last five minutes of this video, driving through Mont Blanc Tunnel give me the spooks, the text, the music and driving down that rabbit-hole, so I did some checking on the 1999 disaster and it turns out that there are 5 similar incidents known that caused fire to the tractor, a Volvo FH12 that Degrave drove : a possible fire in the air intake of the tractor probably caused by a cigarette but. But - and this is where I agree with Ned, when Degrave stopped, all hell broke loose, you see if you are on fire in a tunnel you must try to keep on driving to keep the fire behind you, when you stop you will be engulfed in flames, also Degrave did not put his truck in one of the lay-by refuges which are in the tunnel so all other traffic was stuck behind him. - Due to a false fire alarm the day before, the fire alarms in the control room on the Italian aide were switched off. - After 4 minutes a guy in the Italian side who was looking through the window into the control room, warned the guys on duty that there was smoke to be seen on one of the security monitors. - The Italian and French used different radio frequencies to communicate . - It took the tunnel over 5 minutes to close the tunnel for all traffic - There were 2 control rooms on each side of the tunnel one Italian and one French control room - The shelters were not pressurized and their doors were only fire resistant for 2 hours. - The Italians increased the ventilation power on their side when they discovered the smoke, trying to improve sight but instead the they were increasing the blaze by adding oxygen. - The nearest smoke detector near Degrave's Volvo was out of order. - The last fire drill was held in 1973 !!!!!! There are 2 people who deserve to be mentioned for their bravery, the Italian Pierlucio Tinazzi who gave his life saving people and Frenchman Patrick Devouassoux, both security guards and employees of the tunnel company who drove their motorcycles into the tunnel to rescue people and tell them to stay low and try to breath air from the low positioned ventilation ducts on the side of the tunnel. Tinazz died after he had rescued a French truck driver who was unconscious he could not get this guy on his motor cycle so he decided to wait with him in a shelter, a shelter that could not resist the fire. Patrick Devouassoux survived the disaster. Today they have a fire station in the middle of the tunnel with one special fire truck with a radar system to detect people and 12000 liters of water/foam and one van, there is only one main control room left which is on the French side of the tunnel and the shelters are much more fire and flame resistant and the air inside is pressurized. Of course there is a state of the art fire detection system present, I write this because next week I'll have to take the Mont Blanc tunnel with my car, so I thought I'd better be safe then sorry !
Hi Ned from Sooke British Columbia Canada. I'm a truck driver here in Canada and love watching your videos to see what it's like to drive truck over there. Darren Hollinger
I'm a trucker in the states ned. I really enjoy the similarities and differences between American and European truck driving. Thanks for sharing your adventures mate!!
Great videos Ned, I always new trucking was a tough job but didn't realise how tough until I watched your videos, just like all the most important jobs in the World today trucking is underappreciated and under paid. Love to see the MN plate on utube. Keep safe and God Bless you on your travels.
Again Ned a very good nice to see the mountains with out snow in the winter, we are parked up in dresden for the night have a good weekend and keep the boys working hard
I was away in brugge for a weekend in April and bumped into Dave Tully and two other lads watching the football in a bar. Very nice man chatted to him for like two hours. Had some great stories. Very sad to hear about him passing. 😪
Absolutely fab buddy!!!! Serious and heart wrenching stuff in this vid ned along with the usual mayhem from the 2 amigos with ya!!! Deepest sympathy to Dave's family and friends …...saw it up online......and the trip down memory lane with that terrible fire along with the poor man Paul from Matthews leaves me thinking we have life and laughter and should be grateful for every lung full of air we breathe...... be humble and glad with our lot bud, the alternative is not worth thinking about! Stay cool horse and ill catch ya on FB or something. Keep on Trucking hei!!!!!!!
Love the crack with you ,moe and billy boy great video , great to see your job ,good and bad points ,keep up the good work ( thinking of doing a road trip to Italy would you recommend google maps and a sat nav or ways ) thanks again
Ned: Sorry about your friend, Dave. May he rest in Our Lords' arms. I be missing ya, Moe & Billy Boy. I do the same, say a little prayer before me travels. Blessings from AZ, USA!
Great to see another excellent vlog Ned, and to see old Mo and Billy Boy again. Made my friday night. Can't believe what that Matthews outfit did. I've seen some mercenary employers, but they take the cake. Why would anyone drive for them. Thoroughly enjoyable vlog and hope we don't have to wait so long for the next one. LOL
Great video Ned. Really enjoyed it. Beautiful scenery all the way. I done that trip about ten years ago on my Harley Davidson and really enjoyed it. Traveling up the Mont Blanc was amazing and the accent on the far side was just as good. Don’t forget me shout out. Thanks a mill . The Axle Doctor.
Hiya Ned, once again an interesting and informative video, thank you. I would like to add my condolences to the family and friends of the late Paul Stanyard, R. I. P. And the fact that his company just left the family in the lurch is Disgusting! They didn't deserve to remain in buissness. I would certainly never drive for them. I didn't think it was 20 years since the big fire in the tunnel. It must have been horrific for the truckers stuck behind the one on fire. God only knows why the guy stopped? But to then run away! And have 37 perish, an avoidable tragedy. Drive safe my friend. And if you could give me a shout out, it would make my day. Keep the shoe on her Ned. 👟🚛🌪️☘️
Hi Ned, terrible story about that poor Matthew's driver, shame on them. The tunnel fire must have been terrifying for those poor soles that lost their lives. Cannot believe€300 euro one way for a truck!. Mad mad money. Bernard
Fantastic video Ned. And so sorry to hear about your friend Dave may he R.I.P sending sincere condolences to you and his family. Mathew's Transport will get there Karma.
Great video Ned but a very poignant one, god bless Dave Tully, May you rest in peace and have many happy miles up in heaven. So so sad for all the people who lost they’re lives in the Blanc, very very tragic, knowing you Ned I’ll bet you’ve said many a prayer when you pass the monument for all who were killed in the tunnel. Kind regards. Johnny
Nice video Ned, regarding the Mont Blanc tragedy I was dead lucky, I was going to stop at the Cluses Centre Routier but it was a little early I thought I would get through the pipe that evening, after tipping I got back to Aosta and got stopped at Aosta Autoport as the tunnel was closed so went St. Bernard tunnel and through Swiss. Fate or what.
i love your empathy and the way you pray for each trip before embarking on a new one. the lord will give you strength for sure each day my man. may that driver's soul rest in peace. a piece of him lies inside you. i think that this " moe and billy thing" GIFT comes form him somehow love from italy
I am currently watching this video, It is so so sad to hear the tragic story of Paul Stanyard (RIP) Ned, Matthews should be ashamed of themselves putting profit over human life, I know I cant but that is one (of many) companies I could never work for, I would rather be a toilet attendant than work for someone like that, Another great video and the editing was fantastic
I remember that disaster. How the driver only got a suspended sentence is beyond all reason. Great video, by the way. How disrespectful of Co. Who employed Dave Tully not to pay for his repatriation to UK, because he was on a break a d not insured. Think of what could have happened if he was driving G.
Ned Kelly, First time I've seen one of your videos. Very nice. Your trailer is awesome. You would be hard pressed to find one that clean in the good ole USA where I'm from.
Brilliant video Ned it's a shame that companies treat people like that especially when it's people like you line their pockets. As for the Belgian guy in the tunnel if there if smoke I think it's a natural reaction to stop and may have not been possible that he would make it to the end, if your truck/car sets on fire your natural instinct is to get away from danger. That is my personal opinion as people react in different ways. RIP to people who lost their lives and it's nice to see that you respect the deceased. Keep it up mate.
Another great video from Ned, and the story of the disaster in the tunnel was shocking, I agree that guy should have been given life in prison for his cowardly action of running away and causing the deaths of fellow truckers.
I was stuck halfway up the Blanc in the traffic when that happened having swapped a trailer in Milan for Europa so was on my back to London, over the years I must of used the Blanc a 100x and always thought that one day it will go wrong in the tunnel as the rules etc were so lax.. but that driver could have quiet easily dragged that truck out of there and as you say should have been given a lot longer behind bars.
Did I read that right? €343 to go through the tunnel? Btw I just found you the other day, I’m a trucker in the states and I’m absolutely loving seeing my European contemporaries! Keep it up ned! Much love bug from big red
