Thank you so much for an intro that says exactly what you talk about in your interview and no fluff. I felt like you really respected my time, which is rare with videos lately.
Think the small Boss pedals have the solution for hitting secondary actions for knobs. Concentric knobs. That's it. No faffing around with holding another switch or button clicks. Just knobs under existing knobs. Like if you just look at a metal zone. It looks like it has 4 knobs. But it doesn't. Had 6. Has those super powerful eq knobs... just there. But if everyone just did that I'd be happy.
Man, back in the late 90's I'm out at my cousins in the county playing with our Xmen figures, one of mine was that Nightcrawler figure. My cousin would not stop bugging me to trade him Nightcrawler for something else, after hours of hearing his mouth I snapped and slung Nightcrawler into the woods behind his house and told him go find it. We never found that figure and I've regretted doing that all the way into my early 40's lol
This is really great - the work required and hearing all the UX issues and band aid needed for world class DSP. It's the difference between something that sounds ok on a few settings and a highly polished sounds great always thing.
Talking about making your own pedals is so fun. Hard to come up with something totally unique. I've always had this super tweakable delay in mind where you can apply different modulation to the delay line to achieve basically every other modulation effect. Buuuut that's basically the red panda raster so my other dream pedal has always been a lofi box with vibrato, sample rate reducer, and some eq all in one. But I'd want it to be as simple as possible, so not 15 knobs like the raster or the ghost, just direct access to 3 paths to lofi
The Syntax Error v2 from Alexander Pedals can do basically all those things. It doesn't have 15 knobs, but it does have a screen, so it's a little menu-y, but it can hit those lo-fi sweet spots. It's harder to dial in a lo-fi bandpass effect than it would be with a normal EQ, but you can sort of get there with the tone control and some of the comb filtering that happens with the Freq mode. And the Wave mode can do vibratro. And every mode can bit crush. So it might be a candidate for the all-in-one lo-fi pedal you're describing. But having said that, it is of course fun to fantasize about what your own version would be like, especially a version with no screens and an extremely straightforward layout.
I have a dream pedal: I want a variation on the Whammy/Pitch Fork without the treadle and with multiple, momentary footswitches that can be assigned their own pitch and attack/release envelopes, as well as having the option of applying an oscillator for vibrato and trill effects. The idea is that you'd be able to rhythmically alter the pitch in the middle of a riff, or use an internal sequencer or midi input to do more complex pitch shifting patterns, with the end goal of being able to replicate the kind of chopped up sounds that EDM artists are able to do using samples in a quick and efficient manner suitable for live performance and jamming.
Great episode. This channel specializes in food for thought. If I designed a pedal I could be a legend in my own mind! 😎🤓 I'll be thinking about my signature pedal all week now! It will be silver and have everything on it.
My dream pedal at the moment is a dual fuzz to go in series or parallel and with double ins and outs. Also with a dual eq would be sweet with that pedal. I use a 4 amp crazy set up now so I’m all over the place. Obviously for home use.
Dude! This is an amazing collab! I love your content and I’m an aspiring pedal builder. I’d love to possibly do a pedal possibly for you👀 I’m working on my first line to releases to put up on reverb, I’d love to send you some of my prototypes if you wanna test them out and give me some feedback
For a REALLY frustrating experience try designing a Logic Pro scripter plugin with Chat GPT 4. Almost drove me nuts. However, I can see the day where the DSP code can be written by AI, loaded onto a AI-designed custom chip and put in a physical pedal format. We will all have our custom DSPs. All hail singularity!
newbie here, trying to learn how to build a simple high pass on/off pedal for doing bass chords. i watched a few videos about high pass filters but can't get my circuit to work on a simulator. any tips??

I was hoping for some musical interludes featuring the pedal, accompanied by the traditional random action figure animation.
might be fun to try listening to Andrew's Ghost demo videos while watching my other ones on mute

Man there's some real rapport going on here. I think a collab video doing some effects jamming would be awesome
Well done, great interview, great video as usual!
What a seriously great video -- deep insightful questions and thoughtful answers. Thank you for this.

Woooah, wasn't expecting this collab, rad!
Great question on how many revisions (long emails) a mix can get lost in and would the pedal process be similar. Totally feel this!

So many lovely implications in this video
love you both and your white background aesthetics!
also excellent questions, Ivan! you're a great interviewer
thanks man
Love this collaboration. MAKE THE PEDAL, Cyberattack!
Also - dammit, I may just need to buy one of these...
Good ass interview dawg
Great interview. Nailed it
I literally cannot escape Andrew Huang on the internet😂 not complaining though
Lol

YOOO THE COLLAB I NEVER KNEW I WANTED

you should try and take rob's place on sonic boom...
it's just seemed to have stopped.
we need the boom boom!
I own a Boss MZ-2, so feel free to ask me if it chugs! 😊
in all seriousness, what is going on with that pedal? tell me everything
Cyberattack, what do you think of DOD pedals?
i haven't actually played many of them but my guess is that i would like them
I won't ever get to make a dream pedal because that pedal already exists (metal zone)
Scallon gonna Djent a pedal genius next!
That Houng guy already looks like a pixelated cartoon character.
I’m more curious as to how much maintenance those eyebrows require … ? 🤔
