Something quite some creators skip over is the part where they're just messing around with stuff without knowing where they're going, and I love how much of that he's showcasing.
He was one of the few in the earlier days that really started to make me realize that, while it's valuable to throw out ideas if they're not working, you'd be surprised how that chord progression sounds when you simply play with the sound etc. etc. etc. You can stop stressing about results and turn those knobs to have fun, stuff will happen if you do it enough, and over time you will become more deliberate, whether you need something specific or more so go with your original approach of throwing stuff against the wall, you will become more consistent.
Synth patches were a big thing for me, I threw out SO many patches just cause I hadn't done enough stuff to explore where it could go.
Just throw on tons of nuances even if you're not super digging where it's headed. Once the patch sounds alive enough to you, try making some big changes and maybe changing the role of the sound. You've got so much work already done that can be tweaked, so much depth that maybe easily sounds great when it sits in the right spot.
This doesn't apply to all kinds of synths, but the ones with a billion different subtle modulations all playing together, I usually find myself creating the coolest ones by not giving up on something.
Another random tip that may help people explore more comfortably: Instead of saving to a general patches folder, create a folder for each major patch you work on, and save a new version along each point where you hear something you like that will likely be lost upon playing around more. Put the name of the project you're making it in as part of the patch name if you wanna be able to easily see what your midi and automation etc. was when making it. Patcher/Ableton Racks etc. and separate sound design project folders are all things that can help, just let a recording run and resample if you're ever working with randomness or oldschool gear etc.

I remember seeing those Maestro units in the music store when they were new. Your RUclips philosophy of how you make diversified content is a great concept. It makes perfect sense, for you. If the focus is more on you and your love of various styles of music, firstly, it is more satisfying to you and keeps it interesting for you. And as people get to know you and like you, they are more apt to support you in whatever you are doing, even if it is not the flavor of the moment. The variety of content is what drew me to your channel. Well done Agent Huang!

This was great. What a nice dude, I’m an idiot for not really gravitating his way by now considering we both dig a lot of the same things especially in an all around spectrum fashion. Very humanizing interview to see exactly how comfortable he is in his own skin. Humility is hard to come by with alot of musicians especially when they’re are trying to make it somewhere in the music business whatever that is These days, but I think with drive, smarts, and all around ground feel for all musical sounds at some point your gonna break through in one avenue or many coinciding music paths. Give alot of credit to him for doing things his way being the all around dude ya can’t shove in one box, stupidly confusing for some reason to most but I totally get it and appreciate it. Ok, I’ll stop the run on sentence madness hahaha.

Definitely something I could have written, so you spared me the effort ! 😀
I am not much into his music, but I like to live in a world where there is room for this kind of persons to sustain themselves as artists. His general approach and attitude are very refreshing, in this number-fetish and corporate world we live in, so ... kudos to him for showing that a different path is possible.

I wonder if that Maestro device is what Florian Schneider used to process his flute on the first three Kraftwerk albums? "Vom Himmel Hoch" in particular uses some sort of pitch-to-voltage device and envelope follower to make a sound almost TB-303ish.
