- This video will teach you the next 10 letters in the Korean Alphabet (Hangul). You will learn 10 basic Korean vowels. The total number of Korean vowels is 21. You will learn the rest of it in a couple of lessons.
In this lesson I provide examples in English that would help you with pronunciation. I also show my Korean handwriting to teach you how to write the Korean vowels on paper. You can write them together with me. Get a pen and a piece of paper.
To learn all letters in the Korean Alphabet watch this playlist: • Korean Alphabet & Grammar
About the Korean language and Hangul:
Korean is an alphabet-based language. Hangul is the name for the Korean Alphabet, where ‘Han’ is ‘Korean’ and ‘gul’ is ‘letter’. Hangul was invented by a Korean king (Sejong the Great) together with a group of scholars in 1443 (578 years ago). Before 1443 year Koreans used Chinese characters. To learn these characters takes time. For this reason, not so many people could write and read. They were uneducated. King Sejong understood that to develop the Kingdom there must be as many educated people as possible. So, he decided to invent the Korean alphabet that anyone, including the poor, could learn.

Hi Kate, does the same rule apply to d,t if it is a vowel from the first row? like in TO?
Hello Averil^^
Hmm... can you specify your question please? I didn't get it 🙈
Hadi başlayalım
mam 구 고 그we will say it ku ko and ki am i right
Can I ask you, where did you make your video and presentation?
Hello!
It's just Power Point and Camtasia.
For me, the A (ㅏ) in Father and the A (ㅗ) in Ball sound the same, but you have them representing two different vowels. Is the letter ㅗ more like the letter O in "Rope"? I speak American english, so I'm not sure if me hearing Father and Ball the same way has anything to do with that. Thank you!
Hello Gregory,
Aha~ I see.
I will give more examples.
ㅏ as 'U' in the word Up
ㅗ as 'o' in Sword
ㅓ as 'e' in Herd

u say ㄷ as t, d
in this video u say 더 is to'
can u explain me the reason why u didn't use do'?
Oh, please watch 'Hangul: Full List of Reading Rules in Korean.'
In the beginning and end of a word ㄷsounds as 'T'.

May I ask how can we know whether the side己 pronounce the sound r or l?🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻or are they just the same?
Hello~
Oh, it depends.
Please watch 'Hangul: Full List of Reading rules in Korean' lesson.

You can do it.
So many people could, so you also can.
Confused in double letters pronouncements
I've seen some videos, pictures and apps translating ㅓ to "eo" and ㅡ as "eu", is that also correct?
Hello^^ 🙂
Yes,
ㅓ is Eo
ㅡ is Eu
ㅕ is Yeo
외 is Oe
and so on.
To me it's very confusing and difficult to read. In addition to that, it means before learning Korean, a student must learn Standard Romanization rules, which is a double work.
That's why in all my videos I use my own romanization.
ㅓ is Eo --> O'
ㅡ is Eu --> U'
ㅕ is Yeo --> Yo'
외 is Oe --> We
If you have time, you can learn Standard Romanization too :)
@@KOREANFULLCOURSE ah yes yes, I understand. Thank you so much! I really appreciate your videos and you taking the time to respond. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
You're welcome 🙂
Mam you said that 'ㅅ' has 2 sounds i.e. 's' and 'sh'. ㅅ is pronounced as 's' when 1st group vowels are used and it is pronounced as 'sh' when 2nd group vowels are used. So is it applicable for these consonants also????
•'ㄱ' = k, g
•'ㄷ' = t, d
• 'ㄹ' = r, l
•'ㅂ' = p, b
Hello^^
Nope. Please watch this lesson:
Hangul: Full List of Reading Rules in Korean.
You can find this lesson in the Korean Alphabet & Grammar playlist.
@@KOREANFULLCOURSE okk mam thx when I asked this question from you I watched this video which you suggested that day only and got the answer of my question...
Thx for giving answer 🥰🥰🥰☺☺

Hi, it's me again^^
Just a little question
For 8:25, we don't pronounce the "y", do we? Because I don't hear it
+why do I hear 7:14 as " do' " 🤔
Hello^^
Mm... No, we don't pronounce 'y' neither in 샤 nor in 려. :)
@@KOREANFULLCOURSE
Ummm, why?
Isn't 려 " ryo' " or " lyo' "?
I kinda hear both in Google translate's pronounciation
Mm.. [ya], [yo] etc. produce one sound.
Just in English you need two letters to represent this sound.
Try to check in google this 하려면
It's just [ Ha Ryo Myon ],
not [ Ha R Yo M Yon ]
@@KOREANFULLCOURSE
Sorry but I don't get what you're saying...
I meant that if we add another consonant to ㅑ, ㅕ, ㅛ, ㅠ, ㅣ, let's say ㄴ, we say "nya", " nyo' ", "nyo", "nyoo", "ni"
But for ㅅ because adding this to those vowels sounds diffrent (sh), we don't pronounce the "y" sound; like we don't say "shya". We say "sha".
And for 려
I don't know why but I hear you saying " do' ".... while I know it should be either " ryo' " or " lyo' "
Hello!
I am very sorry for late reply. I did not forget about you. Always remembered, just was a bit busy.
So,
I think I know what you mean.
We both my have misunderstanding just because it's impossible to 'describe' Korean sounds using English letters.
Please, go to Google translator or Papago(dot)naver(dot)com, and try to play these syllables. So you will know how exactly they sound.
샤, 셔, 쇼, 슈, 시
랴, 려, 료, 류, 리
냐, 녀, 뇨, 뉴, 니
^^
How to write Utkarsha in hangul letter s can you please tell me
I think it's 우트카르샤
Thank you mam you cleared my dought 🙏

I am sorry but I can,t find the homework
it say it in the dicription like homework and then something underneath it
Actually in English y is never a vowel
It is actually semi vowel.o+i=y
@@rajashreesarkar9289 I don’t know when that ever became a vowel or semi vowel. That has never been taught when I was in school. English is my native language. A,e,i,o,u has always been the only vowels and there was never such a thing as a semi vowel
@@jennifervaughn1541 English is my name as well. But my name, Gregory, treats y as a vowel as the end, when you pronounce it "Gregor-ee". Or in a word like "Party".
@@GregAmbroski true but that just the sound....that don't make it a vowel
@@jennifervaughn1541 Maybe we'll just have to agree to disagree, haha.
