What a gift to have a hummingbird nest in your yard! When we go away in summer, we usually just take the outdoor pots off the deck and put them in the garden where they are hit by the lawn sprinkler system. Not always ideal. I like your ideas because a couple of our pots are big and heavy.
Yes, it is really hard to move large pots and some of mine are large containers that I can’t move so I do like the sprinkler idea and I do remember using that when I lived back east😊❤️
Great video! I haven’t seen any travel videos similar to this. :) I’ve been into the emergency preparedness videos, especially from a female perspective. I would love to see more emergency preparedness videos!
Love your suggestions! The baby hummingbirds are just adorable! We don’t go away for extended periods. Usually a week at the most so we have a great neighbor who will water the outside plants for us. Inside plants only get water once a week.
I have had success with Self Watering Pots and I use Soil Moist Granules mixed with the potting soil when I pot all my plants. My vacations are usually one to two weeks.
I have seen those granules, and I’ve always wondered how well they work. Thank you for confirming that you use those cause I think I’m gonna get some as well.💕😊 thank you so much for sharing that.💕😊
Thanks for the reminder about using the polymers. But just a reminder, get them a bit moist first before you plant everything. My local nursery was so proud of their hanging plants and they put those polymers in it and then watered it all. When they came back the next day all the soil in the pots had exploded because the polymers had soaked up the water and pushed the soil out of the basket and plants as well! They did get a good laugh but they also learned about polymers the hard way!
I absolutely enjoyed this video Eunice! One of my favorites... I loved all the hacks and the solar tool drip system... A couple of years ago I switched a few of my container gardening to fabric bag and I do love them but in the heat of our California summer I found that some of the bags in the full sun needed alot more watering needs than regular pots do so when I am away or do not have them on a drip I put a basin or deeper saucer under each fabric pot so they do not fry out completely while I am away... and if I will be away for an extended amount of days I have even gotten a kiddy pool and place said grow bags in with a couple inches of water for that time I am gone... beats having dead plants when I get back.
That is a great idea! ❤️😊 thank you so much for sharing that, Julie! ❤️

Hi Eunice! Another practical video! Some months ago I was watching your videos regularly, but I got a job, and I'm very busy now, so I don't spend so much time on RUclips any more. But it was always nice to exchange comments with you. That's why I wanted to leave this message. It's not that I'm gone, it is that I have suddenly a lot to do, which is fine, after a long period without working. I'm glad to see that you are fine. I send you my best wishes, and I will drop by occasionally! 🤗

Btw, I always use the last watering system that you mention, the little terracotta with the "wire/cable" to the water. And it happened the same to me, fortunately only with one of them, the cable got clogged and one of the plants suffered a lot. I realized that it is maybe full of lime inside, so, I bought new ones, and what I do now is to submerge them in water with vinegar once I come back, to get rid of the possible lime. It has worked until now, but yes, maybe it's not the most efficient system.
@ thank you so much Noemi I am going to try that system again because I thought it was really good other than getting clogged up! So I’m gonna try your solution and hopefully it will work! Thank you so much for sharing that❤️😊 I’m so happy you are employed and busy and productive!😊❤️🙏 and I always look forward to your feedback and comments whenever you get a chance to watch my videos❤️😊

@@TheoryofSimple ❤ I hope it works, it has been working for me, at least for 2 years. But maybe better trying it when you are at home, rather than when you are away, just in case!
Great suggestions, Eunice! It was precious to see the baby hummingbirds. I used to place one of our Wireless Arlo cameras on the rail of my son's clubhouse that ran right along the fence line. Squirrels use that fence like a super highway and I would catch them on camera constantly super close up. They actually seemed really curious about the camera and would just stare into it.
Thank you so much, Brandon! I really feel blessed. This is the second year in a row, but I’ll be able to watch these hummingbirds hatch and fledge! That’s so cute about the squirrels! I bet that would make some really cute video🤣🙏❤️😊
I wish I’d seen this video earlier. I’m on vacation now and worried about my plants. I have very little knowledge about drip irrigation but am happy to see there’s a solar option. Thanks, Eunice!
You’re very welcome, Beth! I hope your plants do well and I’m not sure how long you’re gonna be gone but if it’s just a couple weeks, they probably will be fine. I was gone for three weeks and it was hot out and unfortunately those ones on the porch passed on but that’s all the irrigation is something I’m definitely going to be using this year.❤️
I absolutely loved this video! My option was not to grow any plants till I got home from Aruba. I've been home for a week and I still haven't gotten any plants going. I am lazy and forgetful in watering plants so I would love to try that solar method or those terracotta ones that you put in as you plant and then you can fill them from the top that looked really cool. You always come up with such fantastic ideas and so it keeps me coming back. I would love to see more gardening videos. I live in an apartment in Aurora, Colorado so always looking for ways to container garden.😊
The plant watering pointers were really great. Mine are more on survival of the fittest. The hummingbird nest & hatchlings were incredible. 🐦How cool is that, that you got it on film! Thanks again for sharing!🐦
I feel like they’re my little babies right now! I just love how they open their little mouse as soon as anything comes near the Nest because I think someone’s gonna feed them😊❤️
Thank you so much! By the way, if you’re going to try the silver one, make sure you get a big enough bucket to hold water that will get you through whatever time. You’re going to be leaving for so you might need a big trashcan depending on how many plants are watering.😊
Thank you so much, Deb! I’m feeling pretty good right now! Since I’ve changed my diet, I’ve even notice my rosacea is going away! But I’ve also changed my skin care, so that might be helping as well! Truly appreciate you checking in and commenting❤️😊🙏
That's my usual go-to as well. I have a friend that loves to use my apartment while I'm gone to give her some peace and quiet. And she likes to water the plants as well.
Thank you so much for asking Wendy! He is back at work now with some limitations. He’s not allowed to fly for a few more months and he is doing cardiac rehab three days a week.. still having some issues with breathing because of the pulmonary embolisms. But we’re making progress day by day.💕🙏😊
I’m definitely not an expert but I’ve had a few orchids in my day and they definitely need to have air around the root system so don’t use regular potting soil. They do make a special blend of orchid soil that you can get pretty much any nursery and special pots as well that have designs in them to allow air to get around the roots.. also they don’t like to be watered on their leaves so the best way to water them is to take the pot and soak it in water for a little bit and then take it out and drain it and that should last you a couple of weeks. Orchids will rot if their roots are left in water.🙏😊
@@Cookingforacrowd a little glass birds are so cute and they also come in different colored glass bulbs if you wanna add some color to your planting!😊❤️🙏

Hi Kathy! Thank you so much😊❤️ I have a few people requesting some health and beauty videos for me so I’ll try to put those up soon! 😊❤️🌿 thank you so much for giving me your feedback!
Waterings plants while away 1 to 2 wks: typical water bottle size OR 2 L soda bottles...use a very small drill bit & drive into cap of either sized bottle depending on size of plant & pot & if in or outside. I use the 2 L often as only 3 sm drilled holes will keep the water slow & of course, bury @ 6-8" into soil near middle if possible that way the wind won't push over if outside nor curious raccoons that may be thirsty too. 'Rickies' can do almost anything but bottles stay upright pretty well. When gone our thermostat is @ 80* so I keep that in mind. Now, for the smaller plants including all my blooming violets...I use large plastic containers with snap close lids. I elevate pots a bit so they don't sit in the 1" water I put into each for humidity. All my vines wrap around & fit into plastic container w/o water in bottom & not heavily watered before putting inside as humidity seems to help them, as well as my many spider plants who love the containers. They all sit where bright light or with some su culents, early morning sun hits them. Many containers can stack again according to plants, moisture needs, light...all with lids snapped on. Upon returning, just ease them 'back to reality'by loosening lids allowing air to circulate more for them. When buying new plants keep this system in mind when you are choosing type of plant & it's needs. Logic goes a long way & when living in UK, AZ Desert, Ill., COLO as you can guess there have been types of growing & climates. Use logic & think ahead & observe always several days before you leave. It will take a day to prepare many. For taller plants that fit within large, clear plastic bags including pots OR wrap bag around pot only tieing opening around trunk & string or ziptie to hold. Sometimes the upright plant can fit w/a clear bag over from top down & tape around top of pot solidly with a smaller water bottle w/triangle pattern of small drilled holes in cap putting sm bottle closer to base. They seem content when I return. 😉
We have a drip system all around but due to age, many lines are broken. We will go away for 5 weeks later. My mom worries about her fruit trees and potted plants and edibles.
