These videos are perfect. I've always wanted to set up a simple drip system for my mother. She's getting older so carrying around water hoses, and watering cans is getting hard for her. I think this will be a perfect Mother's Day gift. Thank you.
This is incredibly helpful. This is my first year gardening and I have about 4 huge planters and 4 medium pots. I’m not sure I’m growing enough to warrant this investment, but we are going on holiday for almost 2 weeks in the middle of June and I know all my efforts would die if I don’t do something like this!
Going on a 2-week vacation and was looking into paying someone to come water all of our flowers every day. This system is way easier than I thought, and will save us money. Your video was so helpful, thanks Jim!
I’m about to drip irrigate all my containers and I feel like after watching this video I can do it myself. Your instruction and detail was really helpful! Thank you!
Thanks Jim. Excellent video for reasonably priced irrigation. I noticed people are having problems with the gardenia solar system irrigation. They're using cheap plastic as the water pressure regulators and they're splitting and squirting all over the place. 3 very bad reviews at my local hardware store....so won't be wasting time and money. I'm not paying $270 for something made in Sweden that if a part breaks, you're stuffed. Nothing like putting together it yourself with quality parts and reasonable cost. Thanks ....took many notes. Jo😊
Thank u so much for this video! I am a DIY person but for years have tried to get my husband, our landscape company blah blah blah to install these for me unsuccessfully. I’ve stopped having potted plants that I love due to the maintenance in the hot summers here in TX. Pretty sure I’ll have my beautiful patio plants full this year!! Thanks to this video.
With the constant water for your plants, you may want to consider a trough system under all your plants to collect and divert water into lawn or better yet another plant on your lawn below. This may prevent your wooden deck from having water damage creating another problem of needing to replace rotted wood decking. Your video was excellent! Thank you!
Great video. I'm glad you show us the difference between the emitters and why you would choose a bubbler over a sprayer. All other youtubers assume that we know.
Jim: THIS VIDEO was, hands down, THE best drip-water install video I have ever seen. I've watched close to ten. Finally, w yours, I now feel confident. TY!!
Thank you for the inspiration. You go nice & slow, show each piece, name the piece and demonstrate it well. I'm putting in a drip system in my front garden. Just waiting for 2 more supplies.
I am a beginner gardener and love the watering system you described. This will work great for me because I am away from home days at a time, which killed my garden this year. Many thanks!
Fantastic! I thought this was going to be so much more complicated but it sounds very straight forward. Now I’m going to buy the parts for my system and I will not have to depend on advice from a sales person who has never used a system like this. I’ll post again when the system is in use.
Thank you!!!! First year growing tomatoes in containers and we’re leaving for 3 weeks and just couldn’t think of a good solution - this is perfect!! Can’t wait to get started
Terrific video, Jim. Thanks so much. I have to leave my garden for a couple of weeks in June and want to have a system in place by May. You've got me ready to build.
I'll let you know how it works out for me. I have zero experience in successfully assembling anything. Your video gives me confidence to give it a try. Thank you. Fingers crossed.
Love your videos Jim. Always the perfect length with the perfect amount of detail. Sometimes as your talking a question will come to my mind and the next thing I know, you are answering it. I can't think of anything you could do better.
Great video. Nice, short and simple instructions. I use the same timer and the battery lasted over 5 years. I also use some Teflon tape to connect the timer to the hose bib to stop water from dripping.
Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge! I’ve always wanted to install a drip system but have been intimidated by my perceived complexity of the installation. Thank you for shedding some light! ☮️🖖🏽
This is the best video on irrigation I've seen in the past 2 years. Please make an irrigation video on (1) shrubs, (2) trees, and (3) herbaceous perennials (this name I just learned recently from one of your videos). I've already finished my back yard and 1 side yard but I had so many questions and very little help. I would like to confirm if I am on the right track. It's been so difficult. Appreciate your very informative videos.
I like this video. I watched too many and there are some simple but the vloggers are making it like its complicated. Some are too slow. Some are shitty. Sorry. But this one is just perfect for me. Very easy to follow. Thanks For sharing.
I enjoyed this video your camera person captured every detail from start to finish how to hook up the system.🤗👍👍 The information given how to hook up the system was very detailed and helpful. This info is what I was looking for,Great job!!🤗👍👍👍👍 Thank you for sharing👍👍👍 Greedings and new subscriber from Phoenix Az🌵🌞
This has been a great series. Very helpful.Since you raised the pots up off the surface, you could even bring the tubes up throught the bottom of the pot so that it is even less noticeable, right? I'm thinking if you lined them all up against the railing, with the main line between the pots and the rail, then ran the tubes up through the bottom, you'd hardly even see it.
Hi! Great video. I was just looking into building something almost identical as far as size and components. My difference is I need to pump water from a holding bin. I'm figuring on 18 spots and would need to water about 6 cups at each spot around every other day. But I cant figure what size pump? Should I use some kind of backflow blocker and pressure release valve? Thanks in advance for any help
you prolly dont care at all but does anyone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my password. I love any help you can give me
@David Jaxx I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Mr. Putnam. I just subscribed because I noticed this video. It was very informative. I have already installed a drip irrigation system for my potted tomatoes but I don't think I set up the drainage for the pots correctly. In your introduction, you state that you have shot some previous videos on how you set up the pots. I could not find the link for those. I am looking forward to viewing the rest of your videos. Thanks again.
Thanks that was well done. I’m in Cayman Islands where I have a condo. I need a solution for watering my plants when we are away. I am going to set up a system like yours
Great vid, great channel. I set up this system for all my pot plants, what I found was my water pressure is too low to cover all of them, it basically became a drip system. Any tips?
Loved your video best one I've seen on how to do this. I want to do this on my deck this summer. I just need to know how you winterize all of it in the fall. I live in Colorado. Do you have a how to video on that too?
The set up is pretty straight forward but what recommendations would you have for those that grow indoors and do they make timers that you can set run times in the seconds?
Yes, they make timers that run in seconds. I have links below the videos for products. If you look in the propagation section there is a clock that works on seconds.
Very informative! Only question I have is how much does this affect your water bill? Would you say you’ve saved money installing controlled irrigation vs. can watering?
I am just watering tomato plants in containers, and annual flowers in the ground - all on the same 1/2" tubing. I am using .5 gph emitters with 1/4" line to each plant with a drip emitter with a stake at the end of each line. I noticed it wasn't getting around the whole plant like I thought it should. Can I still use those .5 gph emitters with the bubblers? If so, can they remain the 1/2" tube, or do I need to move them to the end of the 1/4" tube just before the bubbler. I wish I had found your video before I put my system in! I am running my system for 1 hour each day.
What is a good application for a dripper? I see people use them on trees and shrubs but is one dripper enough--as in does it bias the roots to one side? How far away from the base would you put it so that the roots grow outward? Setting up a RainBird system and they have those 1GPH drippers that I planned on putting to some Fragrant Tea Olives.
+Shawn Sullivan Drip irrigation is perfect for shrubs and trees because it can be placed under your mulch so you loose nothing to evaporation. They make the half inch pipe with the droppers already in it spaced properly.
I’ve been researching on the best way to use a drip line on my pots. I am no longer a fan of the those emitters you used, I feel like it waters to fast and to much and ends up on the floor really quick. I’m thinking about trying the 1/4’’ tubing with the emitter already on them and spaced out every 6’’ and cutting it into a circle. But I’m not sure if I’ll have that same issue as the other emitter. Ugh I’m breaking my head trying to figure out the best emitters for my yard.
I have the same set up with 40 grow bags. Mine does not have the umbrella spray pattern as it should. Not sure if this is due to the amount of pots I have. It literally comes out as a bubble only watering in 1 area immediately around the emitter.
too good video.. ...What about when drip pipes get heated in sun and than too hot water comes for some time. i don't want my plants to drink boiling water.
I have an issue with these emitters, they tend to water fast enough to run out the bottom and leave dry spots, and the entire pot bottom is wet, but the top gets dry. I'm not sure if this is normal behavior if I were to just use a slow 1hr drip emitter system at .5gph with two or three emitters. These bubblers tend to put out a lot of water at once. Have you by chance changed your system?
Question: Do you think that style of dripper can be compatible with dry fertilizers? I'm looking for something that can mimic hand watering as typical drippers do not.
These videos are perfect. I've always wanted to set up a simple drip system for my mother. She's getting older so carrying around water hoses, and watering cans is getting hard for her. I think this will be a perfect Mother's Day gift. Thank you.

Great video, Jim. This type of system will certainly come in handy for me.
Great video. I will definitely use this when I go on vacation!!!
Good video have most of it set up just working on from the house to where the plants r
Great video. Where can i buy the components? The link you provided does not work. Thanks so much!
Exactly what I was looking for and explanation of each component makes it extremely helpful
This really helped and motivated me to try this type of irrigation. Many thanks my friend! You just got a new sub!

I set up this system for all my pot plants, what I found was my water pressure is too low to cover all of them, it basically became a drip system.

Does your clock have multiple zones? Unfortunately, that is the solution. Break the zone in half and have two or more connections on the clock.
Why use bigger size hose for the main line?
Nice video. Thanks!
Thank you for this easy explanation of how to set up this system. Unfortunately, the link to the kit is no longer available.

Is there a limit on how many emitters or limit on length of tubing before you start to see a loss in water flow?
