The Sonata and the Kia Optima are 2 of the best looking cars America has to offer right now. Not only are they lower in price than most American cars, but they offer more standard features and better factory warranties. Here's hoping that Hyundai and Kia are going to be number 1 in the very near future.
anyone else spot the squirrel almost get squashed? i wonder if the driver was just hitting the turns nicely or if he avoided the squirrel... awesome handling either way!
Just a heads up for those watching this. The first car shown is the base GLS while the car they do the main review on is an SE model not a Limited like they keep saying. The limited comes with full leather, while the se shown is a combination of leather with cloth inserts. The wheels on this one is 18 not 17 like they say. The push start is only standard on SE and Limited. Hope this helps some people. If you want the comparison information between the models just go to hyundai.com.
If Hyundai wants to reclaim the JD Power most reliable car list's top spot, it needs to include fuel injectors on the intake valves of its GDI engines so that gasoline can clean the carbon deposits effectively.
props to the driver with that avoidance manoever at 0:47! great reaction and reflexes. Perhaps a testament to some pretty tight handling of the Sonata too, hehe I'd take this over an Accord (by a slight margin) and this is far better than the Camry imo. I'd spring for the Limited with those nice big rims and dual exhaust..
@CoasterBeach You've never driven a Hyundai or Kia. Actually, Peter Shreyer designs them. He used to be the head of designs for VW, Audi, and even some Lamborghinis. PETER SHREYER made the legendary Murcielago!
This is a SE model not a Limited. You can tell by the rims, leather and cloth seats, and the lack of an auto a/c unit. Not to mention the dual tail pipes.
@pattycarljackson not really, only the sonata, santa fe, elantra, accent is only made in america, the other cars are made in korea. also the tucson is made in america too
the 2009-present Hyundai Sonata/ Hyundai i45 (Australasia and Singapore)/ Hyundai i40 (Western Europe) is assembled in South Korea: Asan United States: Montgomery, Alabama China: Beijing Indonesia
I have had mine since October 2010, and have never been this happy with a car - not my wonderful 95 Taurus, not my camry. None of them measures up to this. I knew I did not want a Honda due to the road noise they have. But I was shocked by this car when I started driving it. I got the limited, with everything on it except the GPS system. The ride is great, it's quiet on the highway. AND - why this is not advertised I don't know - I get an average of 41 MPG on the highway
@matrixloader When she traded it in it had 3000 miles she had it for nearly 2 months. She said it never got better than 25 on the hwy and around 21 in town. She complained that it had horrible squeaks and rattles, interior trim pieces fell apart, and it lost nearly 4k in the 2 months that she had it. She also said the ride was terribly harsh. She made the right choice by getting the fusion. Although she was stupid enough to get that hyundai in the first place :P
@xoquixxoqafxo you will never get the advertised gas mileage unless you do all freeway driving, if you look closer at the dealers sticker on the window it will say combined gas mileage, all cars no matter the brand say this, the mileage will always be lower. my nissan altima is rated 31mpg but i always only get 23-24 mpg. the sonata should get about 26-27 combined. that lady that got the fusion is in for a big surprise if she thinks she will get better mileage, the fusion gets about 23-24 too.
I bought this car back in May- 10' this is the best car out there I have had no problems at all! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CAR GO TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER FIRST!
@jvrdlc So is the 2012 Toyota Camry- Hyundai still doesnt realize that they are still playing catch up and only improving on other automakers products and sell them ata lower cost. This Car looks like it could have been the next Camry or Lexus ES
thanks for making that clear.... i was just about to write a comment saying the same thing... this still was a decent review but maybe they should research the car a little more before making a review on it
@xoquixxoqafxo That lady sure made the right choice, ford's have more rattles, rust problems, engine issues and cheap intetior pieces that fall apart easy, they never get good gas mileage either. trust me, i had a ford and would never buy another american car again. import cars are the way to go, american cars like Ford, Gm and Chrysler still still need to catch up to their level. I may sound bias but to each their own.
I can't believe I posted this comment a year ago and someone is just now replying. I know why they do that. It's because all they really care about is putting money in their own pockets. My opinion about Hyundai and Kia has changed since last year. there's just too many good choices out to stick with 1 or 2 car makers.
@matrixloader Thats not true anymore for ford. Their quality has been surging in the past 3 years. If i had to own American I would take a Ford. My first choice in the midsize sedan segment would still be a Honda Accord, then itd be a Ford Fusion Sport. The common attribute that both cars share is that they are both fun to drive on a twisty road but still deliver a compliant ride. I just like that Honda still has better resale than Ford. Sonata still handles like Camry, but SE has stiff ride.
@jvrdlc I wouldn't bet on it. I thought the new 2012 civic was going to look better than the current gen, but it looks 10x worse. Have you seen the Crosstour, CRV, Odyssey... Honda can't do anything right these days. I would be surprised if the next gen Accord is better looking that the current version..
@3089280288 Are you sure? I have a 2009 Kia Optima which has basically has the same Hyundai engine (not GDI) it is very smooth to me. I have been pleasantly surprised by how smooth Hyundai latest engines are.
@N2Oseller all these reviews are similar, best thing to do is go test it for your self and see if you like it. i have yet to test it but i did sit in one and check it out, it is top notch quality compared to the previous model.
@xoquixxoqafxo automakes have been doing this for years. Toyotas success came with their lexus division coping the Mercedes design in the 90's. its a proven formula that works with every automaker taking desings from other automakers. Hyundai has now developed their very own personal desing called fluidic sculpture, its a desing that will be through their entire line of cars, also hyundai now sits as #1 most fuel efficient company in america, and are now built in america at the alabama plant.
@3089280288 I have recently also test-driven a 2011 Kia Optima with the exactly the same drivetrain. I have found it peppy and smooth if not the smoothest out there. I wish that I had seen the car to see what you are talking about. I have also a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 138k miles. Today I checked the gas mileage. It stands at 35.9 to a gallon. I think it is very impressive for an old Hyundai.
I would buy this car even if its Korean. Amazing. I hope everyone buys one and the american companies go bankrupt for being stupid and bringing awfull designs with high prices. THE KOREANS Know what we want and what designs we like.
this car is just amazing, toyota and honda better watch out, they should probably start learning from hyundai or they are soon going to be overtaken, oh hold on, actually hyundai already overtook toyota this year in inital quality and reliability putting hyundai at #7 just below honda that sits at #6. Honda your going down next year! lol.
@rminb010204 Read more... Check the Hyundai website...They do have a Limited and they Do have heating on all seats. And about the climate control, based on the pattern used, make no sense with digital controls..... Think out of the box, young boy.
@matrixloader Hyundai beat toyota because they have gone to shit with quality in their quest to be the largest automaker in the world. Hyundai will never beat honda in engineering. Honda is still the number one manufacture in the world for engines and it shows in the design of the engines in their cars. Honda's motors have been all about fuel economy, power, refinement, and an eagerness to rev for years. Resale is still shit. I'll take me Honda over this Korean built knockoff of a honda.
HOLY FUCK!!!! 20k FOR THIS AMAZING CAR!! WTF. WATCH OUT GM,FORD,HONDA,MERCEDES,BMW . IF the Koreans can give us this much for this little that means that all the MTFKN coe of american companies should take a huge paycut to be able to lower the cost of their cars. RIDICULOUS. kidding me 274hp for 24,000 , WOW!\ Instead of making 150,million a year those bitches can live off , off 70million. I mean i think 70 million is enough right.
@3089280288 I never believe in any cars by its brand name including that of your favorite car, seriously. If you want a good car no matter how cheap or expensive you must know how to pick a good car. Here is what I did. I picked out 2, 3 cars that I liked. I then went for testdriving them all. I picked the smoothest amongs them. I checked all critical items such as no carbon buildup in the tail pipes and so forth. So far zero defect. I love it.
its fucking ugly. Hate the chrome that goes to the front end. Rear looks ok with Dual Exhaust on SE but the front is soo ugly. All Hyundai does is copy copy copy. They stole this design from Mercedes CLS and VW CC... Sorry, but i prefer my "H' badge with a square around it and not an oval :P
How long has this dude been reviewing cars??? WOW I am impressed with him as well as the car!
Yo who saw that squirrel almost get run over at the beginning 😂
Yoo that Squirrel
I just noticed that too:)
Lol wow I didn't see it until you mentioned it 🤣 crazy they kept that shot for the video haha
the smoothness with which that car avoided the squirrel, was a bigger selling point to me than anything else....
We love our 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE, 100,000 miles on it and no problems at all.
PatrickD Treu give it time , I've put a new motor, steering column and the thing is a wanderer on the road !
Jeremy Landphier how many miles on it when you had to replace the engine? Why did you have to replace the engine?

Craig t most Sonatas are good. But he is right. 2011-2013 Sonatas were prone for engine failure. Search it up. Best to stay away from these.
After all these years and all those cars reviewers , John Davis is still the King .

My sonata was a great car. Was sad to see it go. Miss it every day.
This model was a hit!
@gene978 MotorWeek will be starting it's 32nd season. John has been the host for 30 years.
John Davis might be getting older, but he's still a great host and narrator for the road tests on the show!
This Sonata along the last gen definitely turned Hyundai's sales for sure!

This car was a true hit, but I was so right about the long term reliability. All of the fires and engine replacements, no thanks Hyundai.
Damn, 2010 got that 240p to 360p upgrade! Some serious HD right there!
Does 155 mph too
@@jeffwhite-ii5sz he’s talking about the video quality not the speed

Well what a surprise, Hyundai's given the economy family car some class....it almost feels like a luxury car in some aspects....
motorweek rules!!!
LOL at the squirrel's movements at 0:47. It tries to cross the road but is like "fuck this" when the Sonata comes outta nowhere.
I drove one and I could not believe how rough the drivetrain is.
I love my 2012 2.0T hundai sonata more than anyone would understand.
i love this car it has all the things that you would want in a family sedan and the price of the limited is a steal.

OMG at 0:49 they almost hit a squirrel!!!!
This is a SE model not a Limited. You can tell by the rims, leather and cloth seats, and the lack of an auto a/c unit. Not to mention the dual tail pipes.
@wtrdogg20 No, I was saying that the actual car they're testing is an SE model but they are discussing specs on the limited.
@pattycarljackson not really, only the sonata, santa fe, elantra, accent is only made in america, the other cars are made in korea. also the tucson is made in america too
Wooo!!! That was close. I'm sure they would let that on the air if they hit it. Good driver. Nice car too !!!
