- I go hunting for comic books at a garage sale down the street and come home with one of the BEST COMIC HAULS of my LIFE!!! But I can’t help but wonder… did I pay TOO LITTLE for this amazing collection?
#garagesale #comichunting #comicbooks #comics #garagesalefinds
You paid a very fair price and more importantly established a good relationship with the owner which will lead to better purchases from him down the road! 👍
Agreed, and it paid off almost immediately when he invited me back to buy the rest. Treating others fairly always pays off in the end.
The character art indicates that it's a copy that was sold directly to a comic shop (direct edition) as opposed to a book with a barcode which indicates it was sold to a newsstand or something like that (newsstand edition). Neither is particularly first or second but newsstand books often sell for a premium.
I think you did a great thing, paid the seller more than he was expecting and still came away with a great price. Really happy to see you didn't rip him off and take the 50cent per issue price.
There's a lot of scummy sellers and buyers of comics running around, so it really makes me happy to see someone do right by another person. Good stuff man, looking forward to future videos 👍
Also, holy heck, some phenomenal finds, great pickups!
Thanks, it felt good to help him out especially since he seemed to really appreciate my honesty. And yeah, you almost never find stuff like that at yard sales, lucky day for sure!
In my opinion, there's a huge difference between low-balling someone, and accepting their asking price. Paying their asking price doesn't make you a bad person. Personally, I would have Probably said something like, Hey, you know, you got some pretty nice books here. Are you sure you only want 50 cents each? I mean, seriously if I found hulk 181 Or some other Grail I would have told him, maybe lol jk Nice haul cheers.
Nobody got scammed and from what you say the dude appreciated your honesty. So don't worry, hell isn't your destiny yet.
That is one Kool haul!!! I only get to live and die on eBay. You are having so much fun hunting books in the wild. Thank you for sharing the fond books from the 1980's. And as for the pay-out, the gentleman got three time the money than what he was expecting. Thumb up on your part😄
You totally did him rite anytime you offer more then asking it’s commendable! You probably got first rites to possibly some great new purchases without competition bravo
There is a follow up video to this where he invited me to see the video at of his collection, I think you’ll enjoy it!
the spider man head you question in your video means it is a direct sale edition that you got at comic stores.they are first editions!
Is it the right thing very honest congratulations on your collection. I would’ve done the same thing more power to you. Congratulations. Congratulations again very happy for you.
Cool comics
Comic Karma I wonder what is going to come back to you in a positive way some feel it all comes back around others don't believe in b******* like that I wish you well in your journey my friend
killer haul, brother! I advise always paying what you're comfortable and when both parties agree it's a win/win.
Thanks for the comment and advice! I wholeheartedly agree.
I think you did the right thing and you built a good relationship that might pan out in the future you came away happy and he was probably beyond happy with getting more money for what he didn't want anymore nice pick up
I respect that you offered more. Knowing that even so. You were still getting a great deal
Came up as a recommendation on RUclips. SUBSCRIBED
Thank you, I hope you enjoy the content!
Great honey hole. I think everyone lives for these kind of finds. Enjoy the memory…
Secret wars 10 is the best Dr Doom cover
17:07 That's the Spider-Man TV-actor Nicholas Hammond. He did Spider-Man 1977-1979. He was also 14-year-old Friedrich von Trapp in the movie "Sound of Music" in 1965!
It was a win-win. You got a good deal, he got more than he asked for. You showed integrity by giving him more than he asked for the reasons stated. I would have done the same, though not sure what amount I would have offered, since I don't know the value of those comics myself, even if I know some of them are sought after.
Comic grades are subjective, and the market fluctuates. Shops and dealers would only give someone 30% of what the books are worth, and you gave the seller more than double what he was asking. Whatever the two of you agree on is what is fair, no need to fret about it. You found them 'in the wild' as they say, and you probably did save some of those from being destroyed. P.S. You should be able to see what printing those Secret Wars are in the little fine print edition note just inside the cover first page.
I have a full size poster art of the cover of Wolverine #27 without the background. I've had it for 35 years.
personally i think if you are trying to resell then i think the great thing to do is pay a little more even though the seller didn't know. but i think if you are trying to acquire for your personal collection it doesn't matter. pay what they want even if it is way under. there is so much that i am trying to acquire to satisfy my own PC that if i can get a deal and if the seller doesn't care, then there is no harm. That being said i was recently going through a bunch of boxes and i saw keys (first deadpool/wolverine cover, first thunderbolts, etc) that i didn't want for myself but i told the seller to put those aside and price them higher because they were keys. could i have purchased them and resold them to help pay for my own collecting? i guess i could have but that didn't sit right with me. ultimately they were just comics i didn't care about but the market does.
I don’t buy many comics, but I feel that you are extremely intelligent and a very fair business man. You are running a business you need to get some bargains, but I can tell that developing long term contacts is very important to you. Keep it up, Mike. I just started following you and I am enjoying all of your videos and I am learning a lot from you. Buffy The Vampire Slayer is the only comic that is my pull box.
Your karma will always come back to you, and that's how you keep getting great deals.
You're a superhero. 😊
Mice went for the plastic sleeve because plastic is made out of oil . Same reason they eat wires out of cars . Just a fun fact. Great books lots of fun
Rockstar Find
You did the right thing
Great deal!!!
16:48 - never seen that cover before, absolutely magical! Now I understand where Todd McFarlane got some of his cover ideas from!
Keep on grinding.
You got an amazing deal X-Men 221 alone is worth $100 dollars.
Glad I came across your channel...great haul video! You definitely got an excellent deal, but more impressed with your honesty! Obviously the guy was more interested in unloading the books, but for you to offer more was stellar. Much respect for you! Oh, and I dig the name and origin of your channel👍🏽
I definitely subscribed!
Thanks for the kind comment and sub!
Very nice. 😎
It was the exact right thing to do. Gaining trust of a possible local source aside, you have now earned the respect of all that watch your finds videos which will definitely help down the road. I know I subscribed right after.
Sweet!
New mutants 18 is first full apperance of Demon Bear
you earned my subscription for being fair with this guy!!!! good man wish there were more collectors like you!!!!
Thank you! Got to set a good example for the kids.
Ypur the dude love you man..
Kerp up all the amazing wprk you do for the community
The first video I saw of your's was the HULK 181 and FF 1st galactus. It sent me here! Great collectors ethos. In the end if you don't feel good about the deal it is just stuff". The honesty is refreshing.
@@bracketbasher thank you! And I couldn’t agree more
You are a really nice guy love your honesty that's why you were blessed with great keys , honesty and humility take you very far love that you blessed the man with more than what he asked for much respect to you my man 💪🏼 God bless .
Thank you so much!
Hafa adai(Guam Aloha) LMC! Great Video, Great Kindness, & Great Comic Finds! 6 of your books are some of My All-Time Favorites! Your Kindness Won my Subscription and Likes! “Enjoy The Chase!” IslandJ
Thank you so much!
You handled it perfectly.
Brother I picked up the spectacular Spider-Man 101 in a 9.8 a few weeks back, I love it I payed $380 US,
Aw man that’s awesome. I just sent this one in to get graded (future vid). Not going to be a 9.8 but happy to have it slabbed.
@@lunchmoneycomics for sure Brother. Having it alone is perfect. I don’t drink or anything. I work really hard. So I treated myself. Have you Instagram? I can send a photo ☯️
@@jaya076 working on setting up an instagram soon.
i think you paid a fair price. The LCS I go to offers 25% of retail value. Creating that relationship is probably the best long term move! Great job!
That also might be an average, 25% on sought after keys is very low, but 25% on filler can be high and difficult for an LcS to recoup. The Time/effort/money.
Hey Mike I was your 1000th like on this video! You are coming across some great scores & good things happen to good people! My 1-month-old daughter, Gladia had her eyes wide open watching your video. Keep up the good content!
@@libasanAdventures awesome, thank you for being number 1000!
I look forward to future videos on the development of this reationship. :)
I think you did the right thing and not try to fleece him.
It depends if it was his collection or someone else's. I like to give a fair price to people selling their own collection and if they don't know what they have. I have no problem taking advantage of a reseller or consignment companies mistakes. That's on them. Professionals should no better.
Building the relationship was worth the extra money. If you would have been at the garage sale while it was open I would say just pay their asking price but getting to go early and pick at your own pace made it worth more. And you should have really just made a play for everything. If he was willing to do 50 cents a book he probably would have taken $50 a box and been totally happy with that. Have you been able to go back to look at the good stuff yet?
Not yet, been too busy hitting flea markets but I’ll contact him soon hopefully!
I just read web of spiderman last night ironically! Glad I just found your channel :) subbed
WoS is a great series! Thanks for the sub!
Great pick up thanks for sharing Bryan Kitchen Houston Texas
You are not a villian but I think 200 - 300 is probably a good price to pay even if you were going to buy for resale but having said that people sometimes get weird if you offer them more than they ask and they cancel the deal You are not a villian you are a good guy
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Wow. I absolutely love great stories like this! Congrats on being diligent and calling ahead. Good move on paying up. Future contacts can be priceless!
Thanks! I feel like being fair always pays off in the long run. Thanks for the comment!
secret wars, if it has a spider corner and an M shaped price box it is first print, if it has a spider corner and a square shaped price box it is second print
Thanks!
Congrats on the great pickups! Did you guys discuss a price for the whole collection? The "comic cave" wall is pretty amazing. Any suggestions on the set up and materials for a comic wall? Thanks, look forward to watching more of your content!
Hey thanks for watching! We did discuss a price for the whole collection but there was a lot I wasn’t interested in and the sheer number of comics would take up a lot of space. He may still call me though and offer what’s left.
As for the comic wall I think thin shelving is probably the easiest, but I used Vinyl Wall Panel Moulding strips and used a boarded comic as a spacer. Not the most elegant solution but it works!
Quick follow up… I ended up buying the entire collection! Another vid to come soon!
🤳🏻🇵🇷🍻
I have wolverine n°23
Awesome books!Great deal.
Integrity is hard to find these days. Well done.
Your a beauty ✌️
You did what I would of did if It was me there great haul
Awesome vid 👌
I personally think you paid a very fair price. If it would’ve been from a second hand source (relative of the deceased , etc.,) letting them know the value they really had would be nice. Considering it came from a 1st hand source (the seller, collector, whatever it may be ) I personally think it’s their responsibility to know the value of what they’re selling. Just my two cents
I would cry
You paid really low but still you were right to educate the seller and I appreciate you for it, and if you ever come to the Memphis Tennessee area I want to sell you my collection that I also was given a lot of my comics from my Dad and I have been collecting since the 70's.
Good lick!
I think you did the right thing. Killer haul. Definitely going to subscribe. I recently bought a collection of 47 boxes. Found a secret wars 8 too but the back is ripped.
You did well! I feel most people would take and run. The fact you offered any amount over what he asked shows your good nature and character! Good karma coming around! Awesome video man!
👍👍
There a reason you didn't just make an offer on everything? You may end up getting stuff you want even cheaper per book if you just buy the whole thing.
I did! In the video I posted after this I buy the rest of them, you should check it out!
@@lunchmoneycomics awesome! I will get to watching that after I finish watching this!
Nice. I picked up a Wolverine #23 at a Bronx comic show last June in 2022, and asked E-Rod212 if he could sign it which he did, a cool Wolverine cover too.
You did well being honest with the seller about the values of certain comicbooks which helps build the trust and the business relationship to get a call back to continue dealing with seller.
Man I just paid $160 for SW 8.
I think you were fair for giving more than he wanted.
You did the right thing, I would have offered the same amount considering his request and the cool books you have got which btw should all be first print, just direct editions.
I don’t know if it’s the area I live in or I’m just bad at it but I can never find comics at garage sales. I been looking every single weekend. Great haul though. Also feel that was super positive you gave him more for those keys.
Awesome pick up 👍🏼👏👊🏼
So the way a UPC works on a comic book is the first digit is a UPC digit (has nothing to do with the comic book). The next 5 digits identify the publisher (DC, Marvel... etc)... The next set of digits identify the Volume (for example a Volume 1 The Amazing Spider-Man would be a different number than Volume 2 The Amazing Spider-Man. However all the Volume 2 The Amazing Spider-Man will be the same). The last single digit is called a check digit and is used for computations. Then you have the last 5 digits and these are broken into the first 3 digits are the issue number. The fourth digit is the cover version and the last digit is *drum roll* the print run number (if it is a 2nd print - this number will be a 2).
Everything you ever needed to know about a comic book can be figured out by the UPC.
Great finds!!! Really enjoyed watching you go through everything. Looking forward to future videos
I really like how honest you are with the people you buy from. I try to do the same if I know what I'm bidding on.
Shared your video! Great haul!
That’s amazing! Thanks so much Alex, you are one of my favorite comic RUclipsrs, I LOVE your content!
@@lunchmoneycomics much appreciated my friend. I’m sure you will be one of mine. I was talking with some guys about your vlog style. It’s so well done. I’ve tried to record stuff like that and end up scrapping the whole thing. If you’re into sports cards at all check out Chasing Cardboard. Even if you’re not it’s still a great channel and I feel like you could have a similar quality to your videos.
@@AlextheComicHoarder Thanks for the compliment! I’ll check out Chasing Cardboard. As for filming I throw out at least half my material, it’s a lot of work!
You did great and let him know that there were value there. Maybe when you go back he’ll give you even a better deal on what he has in the basement.
Loving your channel. Great haul and as you said they look great for being raw in boxes. Karma 😊
Honestly is a great deal for you, but also a fair price. You did the right thing.
If you wanted to pay full FMV for each of those books then your shopping at the wrong place.
I think you did the right thing. They set a price they were comfortable with, and any amount you gave him that was higher is just a net positive. Well done. Getting a deal is great but it needs to be balanced with the fact there is a person on the other end of the transaction that doesnt have the same information you do. No perfect way to do these things.
If its a one and done take the deal always .but if its someone your trying to network with or build future deals you did the right thing.
I respect that you offered more because you were honest about a few that are worth more then 0.50 each.. That's how you build a relationship with others and because of you being honest and fair that's way you are able to go back and buy more again.
Nice haul of comics at a great price good to be honest, I would have asked for 300 if I was selling lol
Yeah it is highly debatable. If this guy was hurting for money I could see giving him more. But it always pays to know what you have and research its value.
I think your offer was fair. And it's good you offered more. That kind of positive energy always comes back to you. I do wish I could find some deals like that though! LOL
What goes around comes around look at the bright side you made a new friend for doing the right thing
I think with anything it is the sellers obligation to find the fair market value. Especially if it is the original collector and not a mom or widow type situation. It's the sellers job to get the most and the buyers to pat the least.
Great video and nice on 1k subs
Thank you so much! Very humbled!
I think you told him, by your offer that his comics have value.
Just wondering if you send a comic in to be graded that is factory sealed with a card or something do they have to open the bag or do they grade the book on the cover alone? Thank you for your posts.
I'm pretty sure they open the bag up for grading, and I'd imagine they would send the other contents back?
@@lunchmoneycomics thank you for reply.
@@davidstockwell8458 my pleasure
No hate from me, man it takes time and gas money to be out there hunting. Loved the video.
I came here recommended by Alex the comic Hoarder, I stayed and subbed for the awesome video 🙌 that was a great pickup bud, and I think you did the right thing offering more money, many others would have paid pennies and ran. You've likely built a trusting relationship now.
Thanks so much! And thanks to one of my favorite RUclipsrs @Alex the Comic Hoarder
I would have done the samething, you got a great deal and gave him 3 times what he expected. God job
I loved the Army War Heroes. You made an awesome haul.
I enjoyed seeing your score.
Glad went to a collector sure he feels the same
Great video. It's always good to be fair with the seller. Good on You! Thanks for sharing Your passion and adventures Brother 😀 👍 ♥️ 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 ♥️📚🎉🎉👏👏🎉🎉💯💯

Thank Gawd ..someone HONEST for once ..
Think it was cool that you gave him more money. Can’t wait to see what he has in his other collection!
