Great informative video, the mechanic knows his stuff! Eddie...
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it. Eddie certainly does know his stuff! I’m glad he’s a pal of mine because I’m forever picking his brains on bikes! 👍🤘
Most of the video was good, but I saw a few things that bothered me. First never apply force the bridge of the lowers like he did. Instead unsere the nuts, holding the lowers, all the way and just screw them in 2-3 turns. That tap it and the lowers will slide off with ease.
Next thing is don‘t clean your fork with water (talking about the inside of the fork). If you don’t manage to get rid of all water it can cause rust. It’s enough to just take a cloth, put some isopropyl alcohol on it and clean the lowers with that
Cheers for this, it gave me the confidence to do a lower leg service on my Rockshox Pike this afternoon and it's feeling better than new now.
That’s great news Ben! Really pleased it helped you. That’s the idea. That’s you now, you’ll be doing a lot more serving from now on. 👌💪👍
That was a brilliant video, thank you.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Thanks. i like to see you work and learn
Thanks! I’m glad you like it! 🤘
Awesome, thanks for the video.
Thank you! You're very welcome. 🤘
Very informative video. Thanks
You’re welcome and thank you!
thanks dude!! many informations 🤙
Thanks Hans! 👍
Next time you can do it peter 😁👍
Good stuff...
Haha... That's the idea mate. There's no excuse🤘 now I know what to do!
Love the comment, " they have a tool for this but I've been using the palm of my hand for 25 years"
You can’t beat experience eh?! 👍
makes it look so easy! haha took me atleast 2 hours my first time
Haha. I’m the same!
What's that he's using at 16:18, on the compression adjustment knobs? Just grease in a grease gun?
Great video, very informative!
Thanks mate! Really appreciate it.
Yes that’s just general purpose grease in that grease gun.
If there’s anything else, just let me know Mitch.
Great video! I was hoping to see the air spring side removal as well. Not too complex I take it? Just looking to strip the fork down to the stanchions.
Thanks mate! No it’s fairly straight forward. I’ll maybe do the spring side in another video. 👍
Good luck.
@@MountainBikePete Appreciate it! I found one by Henry Quinney / GMBN. (ruclips.net/video/MP4SFPyITiY/видео.html) Def straightforward. Thanks again!!
@@rpiian Great! Let me know how you get on. 👍
Excellent tutorial. Congratulations! Is Crush Washer two pieces, a metal washer and a plastic one?
Thanks mate! The crush washer we replaced was on the air side. That is a rubber one.
The crush washer on the compression side is a metal washer. We didn’t change this.
Hope that helps. 👍🤘
BLEED PORT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGH SIDE NOT THE LOW SIDE .ALSO DO NOT AD CLEAN FLUID TO OLD STUFF REMOVE THE OLD AND PUT IN NEW STUFF
Thanks man.
I will be servicing a RockShox Lyrik Select+ which, as was mentioned, the manual indicates adding 3ml 0w-30 in the upper tube on the spring side. Do you just remove the volume spacers and drop it in there? Also, when you bleed the upper tube on the damper side, why do you not replace the oil and add all fresh oil? Thank you!
Hi John
We did a lower leg and damper bleed. We didn't include an air spring service with the lowers this time, it's more a preference. If you are doing an air spring service, when you remove the air spring top cap, your volume spacers will come out too, if you have any. This is where you would now add your oil on top of the air spring. For a 2020/2012 Lyrik it's 3ml of 0w-30 ( refer to your manual for confirmation). No oil goes in the damper side, only the spring side (if you remove it to service).
Good look with your service. Let me know how you get on and if the video was helpful.
I'm a complete amateur, but I would carefully dump the old fluid from the damper without dumping it all out and introducing air, and replacing it.
Things went well. The only mishap I had was that I ended up changing out the oil in the damper vs. only bleeding it. When I figured out that I needed to open the rebound damping all the way counter-clockwise, things got a lot easier. Thanks for the video!
@@johnblixt4740 That’s great! Glad it helped. 👍
Is it normal that the seal rings are about 1mm Out? I dont get them in properly i think...
Hey, are the seal rings genuine rockshox or a compatible make? When you say 1mm out, what do you mean? In height or diameter? 👍
Best part is the marin b17 hanging on the wall
Haha well spotted.
What weight oil did you use to bleed the damper?
Hey Lee, we used 3wt for the bleed damper mate.
What about oil in the top of the air/non-dampening side?
Hey bud, no oil goes in the top of the air side. The air shaft is greased. 👍🤘
@@MountainBikePete Hey there, you sir are incorrect. I recently worked in a service shop among people who are certified sram and fox techs, once the air spring is re regressed, and re installed you use a lower weight oil (I believe its 5WT for the lyrik) on the air side. I don't recall the exact measurements, but you do use some.
@@jaredgulaga8367 Hey Jared, thanks for the correction. I will look into it and report back. 👍
Hey Jared, we done a lower leg service and damper bleed. We did not remove the air spring. Therefore we didn't need to add any oil into the upper tube of the air spring. If we had serviced the air spring, we would have added 3ml of 0W-30 oil as per the Sram service manual.
For bleeding the damper, it's 3wt for the Lyrik and 5wt would be for a Yari fork. That's maybe where you're getting confused? 🤘
Is your mount on the front of the full face still holding up?
Hey Mark, it is indeed. 👍 in fact I was wearing it last week for a night ride and had my light fixed to it. So it was very recently used!
No sign of wear either.
@@MountainBikePete appreciate the reply! I’ll give it a go myself. Cheers bud.
@@markguiry No problem. Let me know how you get on!
If thats a torque wrench, then ive never seen one used to remove bolts before.
yeah because you don’t use torque wrench for undoing screws… this guy is doing a few things wrong not really the best tutorial
It’s not that big of a deal. He’s not torquing down the high speed shaft of a turbine engine. It’s a bike fork. If the torque wrench is a little off it’s not the end of the world 😊
ah man I did this and found that my damper is leaking from the top, and I ain't got the tools to totally disassemble it. bummer!
Ah Ricky that’s a bummer. It might be worth investing in some tools. It’ll work out much cheaper in the end. 👍
Hello,Sir! Is it possible to receive list of all tools and liquids that were used in this awesome video?
Look up rockshox service manual for your fork. They listed everything you need plus every single step
I thought the 200 hr service includes replacing damper seals and fluids.
It does
it does, this guy doesn’t really know what he’s doing… never use water to clean lower legs and a few other things were done incorrectly
to many mistakes done in this video…he didn’t even replace oil before bleeding he just top it up, you should open the charger replace all the seals clean everything with degreaser not water than do the bleed, this is just sloppy…
This isn't even close to a full service as mentioned in the title.for me it was uncomfortable watching someone ham fisted half arsed do a lower leg lube and bleed a damper . absolutely no point doing this and not even replacing foam rings and never reuse crush washers .and the bleed on the damper had me cringing.....
Yup and other things too , tightening the damper side lower bolt compressed .
