- The dream is absolutely real here at home! This swell is truly the biggest surf ever (in my opinion) that people have attempted to surf in NJ. Winter Storm Izzy brought historic & massive surf in New Jersey & I literally can't even believe my life. These are easily the biggest waves I've ever seen in New Jersey. Not much else can be said, I am baffled!! Thanks for all the stoke & support, FOR THE DREAM!! - Ben

Surfer for 40 years. That is an 18' east coast wave, 15 foot cali wave, 10 foot Hawaiian. That should cover everything.

Anyone who was able to get out beyond the white wash is an absolute beast! I watched in Monmouth county and it was the biggest I’ve ever seen it there. It’s a bomb wave Ben!

Ben is an absolute legend I pulled up to the beach in Monmouth county after the reports said triple over head and said aint no way in hell I'm paddling out. Just sat on the beach and admired the ocean. Bens got some serious balls! mad respect.

Hey Ben I have been a carpenter since 1986 so I measure that massive wave at close to 20ft. Also a fisherman so maybe it was 22ft? Either way you crushed it bro congrats. Those Superior waves the other day also a dream!

15ft on a foamy!!! You get an extra 5 ft on top of that just because that is beyond epic. All that big wave training and experience certainly has paid off. And no jet ski assist. Absolute Legend. Wave of the winter for sure. Props to Rob as well for those insane barrels 🤙🏄

I’m claiming that is a 20’ wave just before you bottom turned. Thank you for sharing and showcasing how gnarly NJ can get! At times a truly world class wave. Much respect to you, Rob Kelly, Sam Hammer and the rest of the NJ boys who were charging on 1/17/22! Legends!! For the dream!

Sweet wave!!! I agree and also don't care what anyone (Hawaiians) else says that's a solid 18 foot FACE wave in my opinion. If you look carefully, he's actually far out from the bottom in front of the wave away from the face bottom turning and crouched over turning making the wave look bigger than it is so I am measuring higher up the face about where his head/butt is aligns with the white water which is the actual bottom of the wave, you can draw a line across the white water and it hits his head. If you measure in six foot increments you get about 18 feet. I am an X-New Jersey Surfer 60's-70's from South Seaside Park/Midway Beach and have surfed big California 20 foot+++ faces at various big wave breaks and epic monster swells. I surfed NJ winter of 77/78/79/80 (graduated 79 and headed for Cali to surf in 80) on my 7'4" Bahne single fin winter stick. I had a crappy 3/16th" O'Neil Super Suit the best suit of the day but garbage by today's standards and froze my ass off as the zipper leaked so bad and cold water would rush in every time I got held under on a close out tube or bailed trying to get out. I surfed some epic monster swells and waves back then Solo at Casino pier with nobody out. I call that a solid 18 footer at its biggest for a second or two at the drop in and then bottom turn with it shrinking fast, but at its peak when he took off and made it to the bottom a solid 18. That is about as big as NJ gets, as big as I have ever surfed and seen back in the day. Awesome. Which beach was it?

Been living the dream for years, BG, but I always had this thing in the back of my mind, even after charging with guys like JOB, that you were always just an easy coast, average surfer, who has happened to be in the right place at the right time throughout the Dream. I would say 18 feet at the peak, for sure! Largest wave I’ve seen on the east coast! And I’ve seen Hatteras breaking 12 to 15 solid.

I live in Sea Isle City, NJ which is on the south end of the Jersey cape. This vid is awesome and captures everything anyone would ever want to know and see regarding South Jersey surfing. Big surfable waves are rare that don't involve hurricane conditions....paddling out is a bitch and the only option...and houses right up against the shoreline. I'm 69 and have been surfing since I was 12.
Fully Nuking, guessing 18.2ft massive wave, I remember surfing huge waves at sebastian inlet I believe 1978, couldn't paddle from shore, had to jump off the jetty. You brought back some memories. Take care 🏄.

For sure one of the biggest bombs recorded in NJ. Outstanding Ben!! ... However, to go against that "77' claim" by whoever said it: let's not forget that Bruce Chrisner has shots of Scott Duerr, and some other Squan legends taking off on close to 20ft face bombs at the Inlet during hurricane Gloria in 1985 - there's photographic proof, I know this because I'm the one who scanned and edited those shots for Bruce and they're still n my computer as I type this. I think that day was pretty close with yesterday.

As a kid in the 60's, I used to watch the Spring Lake Boys JOHNNY, COUGAN, HUGHEY, RAYMOND, BILLY, RICHARD, TOMMY, ART, ANTHONY and others surf 10ft hurricane surf, which was huge. I think you're in new territory here. Congratulations!

I'm gonna go with 18 foot face. I'm at The Wedge in Newport a lot, and that wave looked like a 16-18 foot day there.

The wave was 18 foot in my opinion but it's not a 16-18 foot day. That was one wave the wave of the day. Most of the waves are around 10-14. That was a huge set wave.
Those waves are the biggest I’ve ever seen in Jersey that’s for sure. Born and raised in Millville. I remember being a kid and my dad would take us down to watch the winter storm waves. Those were some huge bombs! Couldn’t see a better dude get the chance to ride them!
Total respect for just getting there, the cold water, the beat downs between waves, how long you stayed out after long flight from CA And of course that 18' bomb

He went to the Manasquan Inlet then drove south to Lavellette? For that killer wave? Beach replenishment screws up the surf in that area big time. There needs to be a wave of the year contest for the East Coast.

@@denmun9722 He said he drove an hour from his house and he most likely went North. In a town like Point Pleasant the beach replenishment causes all the waves to shore break hard making surfing almost impossible. I think the surfers tried to actually block this practice by saying it was bad for the environment.

That was insane. As a homeowner at the shore with 3 boys that surf, I've seen a few hurricane's, and surfers in them, but that was the biggest waves I've ever seen!
