My pap used to sing and play guitar and one of his favorite artists was Hank Williams, those songs just took me back 40 years where he would sit on the couch and play them he passed in 1985 but what memories it brings back!
The guy had more raw talent than would ever be seen again, not just as a writer, but he had the voice and the stage presence that would not be seen until Elvis Presley.
I have my late dad's black '33 Gibson G7 round-top F-hole that he took to a party in Anniston one weekend, and Hank played a couple of songs on it while his was getting a string replaced.
Funny story about Roy Acuff. When he first moved to Nashville (if my memory serves me correctly) the house he bought was in a very nice neighborhood. He was used to cutting the grass himself. While doing so a woman pulled over in front of his house and motioned to him to come to her car. She said “Young man, what do you get for cutting the grass?” Thinking he was the gardener or groundskeeper. He replied “Well, the lady at this house lets me sleep with her every night!”. The uppity woman’s mouth flew open in disbelief and she sped off in horror! 😂
1st song I ever heard, riding with my Dad and Uncle in a 49 Plymouth Coupe. In Texas up in the Panhandle, 6666 ranch area. Hank Williams ..not sure about the song then. I was 2.5 or 3 yrs old. They were going to a bar to play cards in the back room like they did back then.

My Mom would play Hank Williams 33 lp records and fall asleep with it auto playing at the end of the record. Imagine that growing up as a kid, lol. The same 5 songs playing over and over again. I may have broken that record. Now I like his music but back then it was like nails on a chalkboard, lol.
Stephen you probably are not old enough to understand, but before tv we did watch shows on the radio. How you asked. We sat right there at the radio and let your imagination take over. It is amazing what you can see if you give your mind free rein.😊
Everything @moochythecat said is true. I watched a documentary about Hank that included information on the physician prescribed medication he took to help him escape the pain in his back. That drug chloral hydrate was only available in liquid form and Hank was first introduced to it while hospitalized in his younger years. It was a strong CNS depressant and used by dentists, anesthesiologists, etc., to essentially induce conscious sedation which means you’re breathing on your own. Hank more often than not had a big bottle of choral hydrate with him and dosed himself according to his pain and need for sleep. On the night he died his driver made a pit stop and shortly after getting back on the road Hank was laying down in the back floorboard of his Cadillac (he said that’s where his back hurt the least) drinking alcohol as usual and announced he was going to try to sleep for awhile. He dosed himself with the choral hydrate like hundreds of times before, but in this instance the amount of alcohol combined with the amount of the drug was just a smidge overdone and he went to sleep and stopped breathing. Whenever and wherever the driver stopped next he discovered Hank was dead. The FDA did not put a full stop to the use of choral hydrate until 2012.
@@ubermenchlicheman We’ve had a few good singer/songwriters since Hank, but none have even come close to being on his level of genius. PERIOD! I’ll never stop mourning the loss of what Hank and Patsy would have given us if they had lived even another ten years.
