Just like Eva it seems like he went all out for his last performance, the vibrato on “waaaait” and the “la la la la” segments were gorgeous, some of my favorite he’s ever done
I'm gonna say it, and I don't care that this show is (relatively) recent- this number is one of the most iconic stage numbers *ever*. The music, lyrics, staging, props, emotional resonance, how it fits into the overall production but can also be taken out of context and just enjoyed all on its own... it's just astonishing on every level.
The vibrato on the back half of “waaaaait” is so good! Wish it was on the album. And it does seem like both Eva and Reeve went all out on their last performances, the “la la la” segment here is one of my favorites he’s ever done
I remember hearing in a Hollywood Roundtable interview someone said that when they do stage shows it’s always the last performance where they finally feel like they’ve gotten it right 😭
I was lucky enough to be there for this, and it was like an out-of-body experience. The whole room was filled with so much energy and love for Reeve. I've seen the show 5 times with him, and this was easily his best performance. He was absolutely breathtaking. I was bawling at the end. Such a magical night. So glad someone was able to capture this moment.
I can’t watch this without erupting in goosebumps. The emotion he puts into that last bit… it gets me every time. Imagine singing THIS SONG for the last time. It’s so good.
Thank you so much for putting this out! His voice is so angelic! So sad hes going to be gone but on the other hand im excited to see Jordans rendition of the show! Hopefully theres going to be recordings from his opening night!
The walls opening is genuinely one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. I had gone into the show completely blind and the surprise was definitely worth it
@@Bird_in_a_TrenchcoatI’d been a huge fan of the album but somehow never knew the walls opened up. When I got there I was kinda surprised that the stage looked smaller than expected, safe to say I was absolutely blown away when it happened, full body chills
He’s such an awesome performer but it does sound like he is experiencing vocal strain because of how many shows he’s done. I hope he heals and gets back on stage soon!
I wish I could have seen Reeve Carney live in Hadestown. I have only listened to the original cast recording of the show with Carney. I'm sure Jordan Fisher will be amazing
I love how Lillas White is playing Hermes here when she also played Calliope, Orphie’s mom in Hercules. That lady’s gonna support her son to the very end! Happy first anniversary to this amazing performance. I’m a little bit sheepish I got into Hadestown immediately after he left 🌚😅 Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Jordan, but I hope I get to see Reeve live on stage one day too!! He’s so pretty!! ✨
I saw the show prepandemic with the original cast, I loved andre as hermes. Reeve was amazing for this last performance but I have to admit the difference between Andre and his replacement as hermes was kind of like nails on a chalkboard for me.
i wish i could travel to new york and see him before his last show, it was sort of like my dream to see him live as orpheus but oh well. hope he excels in whatever he does next!! anyway hadestown turkey when
Reeve was just meant to play this part. He will always be Orpheus. I'm in no way saying that Jordan Fisher isn't doing a great job-- I love his version and I'm already a fan his, have been since his Teen Beach days lol But Reeve just embodies the character more than any character he's ever played in my opinion.
whoa . . . . when did reeve start using vibrato?! also, it is really annoying me that lillias white is not doing her part to the beat. the beat is one of the coolest things about this song. :| :|
I think she plays with the rhythm just right and just enough. With a higher voice (ie female voice, unlike Andre De Shields or other male Hermes actors), she either has to shout or push hard to be heard above the orchestra and chorus, so the odd off-beat line works well to separate her voice and keep the narrative clear. But I also noticed Reeve is late to the beat too, and the Fates are holding their notes way longer too. So it isn’t just Lillias.
I’ll be honest, I loved Reeve in the show, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be at this final performance with everyone whooping and cheering every 5 seconds! 😅
@thetradge same. I'm glad I saw it when I could just hear the music and voices more clearly.. I know it was the last performance and the audience was showing their love and appreciation just not for me but then I also dislike when someone walks on stage and the cheering starts. Humbug lollll.
@@justforcomments9524 No not at all, you're like me in that you prefer to take in the musical/dramatic content as it was intended without it being broken up by constant audience reactions.

@@Hermes.whistle as an avid theatre goer, it is distracting and it's rude especially when they say countless times to turn it off. I wish the audience would hush until the song is over or at least wait until there is a break between singing lines. It would drive me crazy to pay so much money to see a Broadway show that is being drowned out by people whooping and cheering.
