King the Land! Somehow, I think I have watched one single solitary K-drama this year that was actually produced in 2023. And that one just happens to be King the Land! (I blame Netflix for shoving it in my face every time I logged in there.) I found it a rather underwhelming series in most every respect and only gave it a 6.5. That is almost a full two points below its MDL average, when normally I land on a score within half a point of the consensus. And, obviously you liked it better than I did. I did find the two lead actors charming, and I did like the flight attendant side couple quite a bit. However the story left me cold. The cliff scene rescue you called out was egregiously bad, but there were a few other moments that felt contrived and artificial as well. On the professional side, the half-sister of the ML was essentially the villain in the piece, and was always one step ahead of her. The rich family drama, sibling rivals compete to be the next CEO, is such a lazy tired trope--but if a series chooses to go down that path, it should have the gumption to make the rivalry real. The plotting, in other words, was the downfall of this series for me. The characters were mostly fine.
Strangely I'm not surprised to learn that you didn't really like it x) I think the grade you rated it is around the grade I gave to the other CEO romances I watched recently. So I can't totally understand that one would not like it^^
@@dramawhale03 When you were talking about feeling tired of CEO romances, I was nodding my head in agreement. Fatigue, definitely playing a role in most of my grades recently.
Since you prefer not to watch a series until it finishes airing, I thought I would share some recent recommendations. Since it has been lean pickings this fall, hopefully, you can spare yourself some misery. Avoid at all costs: all three of the recent GMMTV BL series (and how often does anyone say that?): Hidden Agenda, Only Friends, and Dangerous Romance all miss the mark one way or another. One is boring, one is too dark to be your cup of tea, and the other is so incomprehensibly stupid I cannot believe another Thai series this year may rival Be Mine Superstar for worst thing I've seen this year. Oh, speaking of BMS--skip it! I Feel You LInger in the Air, which concludes in a few hours from now, is the one recent Thai series you can/should seek out when able. From Taiwan, Kiseki wraps up next week--I am only halfway through and am still sitting on the fence. Stay tuned. From Korea, Love Class 2, if we haven't mentioned it already, was excellent and deserves a look. From Japan, My Personal Weatherman is quirky and worth checking out just because it is so different.
Thank you for all the recommendation. I have to say I'm very sad that Dangerous Romance seems to not be good, I wanted it to be good ! TT For the others I think they are all in my to watch list, except Love Class 2 that I watched already :P Spoiler: I didn't find it excellent but I still enjoyed it :D
@@dramawhale03 I'm not sure I found Love Class 2 excellent at the time. But a month or so later, and all those bad series later, I look back at it fondly.
