    Not what we would want to hear, but I don’t think anyone here is surprised. You are not the only one this is happening to and the ones who didn’t burn out, like some of my favourite Thai BL reaction channels have shifted and expanded into Chinese dramas, especially Chinese Bromance and queer coded dramas just because they’re written better. There’s more dramatic tension even sexual tension and is more engaging so that’s how they decided to pivot in order not to lose their following, some of them hundreds of thousands and even a few over 1 million and those are the ones that are still going strong. Almost all the western BL creators are in a slump because they’ve persisting with low quality, highly marketed stuff no one is enjoying and that’s tough. Some are going back to K-pop music or to older Kdramas. The recent ones are simply not as entertaining. It’s about the quality especially coming out of Thailand that has plummeted, however this is only the bl si, there are many excellent Lakorns which are well produced on every score Anyway, since there is nothing keeping people buoyant and everyone is so depressed in the fandom some friends made a thread of mentally uplifting and engaging BLs that I’ll link you here: x.com/xyz_sal/status/1731928325554151808?s=20 There are many wonderful dramas to explore just not in the usual places. Hope they cheer you up but take your time and remember pursuing art for the love and passion of it is always the best way forward. 🫂🥰🫂

    I didn't love season 1, either, and I think I'd also rate it a 6. It wasn't well-developed. Season 2 was much better, though the series reads like a stand-alone. Only the class itself is the common thread, and a very thin one at that. I didn't love the main couple or the "mystery" that surrounded one of the main leads. I thought it was just okay. The other two couples, though, I adored. Especially MaRu. He's such a cute little himbo. Once he falls, he falls hard. I also loved the slow burn of the TA and the grad student. They were cute at first and then exploded into hotness. KBLs this year have been hit-or-miss. For me, this was a hit. 8/10.

      Himbo. Apt choice of words. Memorable character for giving the World the great Himbo explanation "It happens," in response to the query, "Why would you pick your nose in class?" That "mystery" plot did not ever weave in well, did it?

    S1 7.5. Six episodes at 20 minutes. 2022 S 2 8.5. Ten episodes at 25 minutes. 2023 At the outset of her comments Drama Whale identifies the two most salient facts regarding the dual seasons of Love Class. First, they exist wholly independent of one another to the point that using the term "sequel" may just be a misnomer. They really do stand alone. Second, the second set of episodes greatly outshine the first. My memory of S1 has mostly faded, but I recall finding it mostly breezy and charming. It seems clear I liked it better than Drama Whale, but I also heard her critiques without wishing to provide a counterpoint. Whether that is because I have forgotten the details, because i was less bothered by the negative traits she cites, or because I deem the critiques valid is unclear. For a short series (albeit much longer than s1), S2 did an amazing job of juggling screentime for its characters. All three featured couples in the second season share in common that one party desires to pursue the other partner romantically, and that pursuit catalyzes further development as the second party gradually reciprocates the interest. The details structuring each couple vary so considerably, however, that each couple has a unique premise. As a whole, the series never feels repetitious. Given the abbreviated running time typical to K-BL, it helped enormously that only one of the three couples meets for the first time in episode 1. That courtship begins from scratch whereas the other two each begins with an unrequited emotional attachment that preexists the series. Revealed gradually via flashback, this angle of unrequited love adds intrigue to the proceedings because those romances can leap directly to elevated tension (both sexual and dramatic). The audience gets drawn into rooting for the pursuer to win over his reluctant (or oblivious) object of affection. Lacking that narrative shortcut, the storyline for the grad student TA and the art student proves a slower burn. That pacing may account for why Drama Whale finds them less engaging, but to be fair the writers undermined them in two other ways. Early episodes shortchanged those characters on backstory and screentime, which made their story feel disconnected from the other two. Despite attending the same university, they had no social connection to the other four characters that would account for all six being in the same series. The writers eventually knit the disparate threads together, and the later episodes provide greater satisfaction when those connections come together. Love Class S2 is noteworthy primarily for avoiding the usual complaint leveled at k-BL: too much story ambition but insufficient time to realize all its potential. LC2 is not immune to this tendency but mostly succeeds in realizing six different lead characters and three different relationships. I say, declare that accomplishment a victory, and move on!

    • @johnmaster3748
      @johnmaster3748 Год назад

      Three addendums: --the art student is an undergraduate, but he has returned to university after serving his mandatory military service. Thus, he is older and richer in life experience than the other four undergrads in the story. By definition, grad students are older than undergraduates. For me, there was no ick factor in that romance because of the art student's older age profile. --the other age gap romance here likewise dodges the ick factor bullet despite the roots of that relationship originating with a high schooler's crush on his college-aged tutor. Even worse, the high schooler was experiencing emotional instability at home during the time those feelings were forged [parental divorce]. Nevertheless, no one behaves inappropriately in the flashbacks. In the present timeline, the besotted party not only has grown up to college-age himself, but he exercises agency and self-awareness in pursuing his old tutor, the ancient crush having survived the separation. --in about a month I will sort my feelings about 2023 series into a Top 10 List. Last year's list omitted a few series rated a 9.0. But this year's version looks likely to include several 8.5 series. [Did I watch fewer series? Or was this year lacking in top shelf content?] Thus, LC2 will be in the mix for the back half of this Super Prestigious Honor.

    I had issues with both lead characters. Both had intriguing premises. But I believe the writers botched the execution of that material and undermined the potential in both characters. With different choices, this set-up (a young romantic redeems the heart of an older man who has given up on love) could have been more successful. 6.5 The idea of someone commited to singlehood was fresh, but the execution was weak. Rather than having well thought out reasons for staying single, Lee Joon was artificially stubborn in his position on dating (e.g, stubborn just to create character conflict). Worse, he seemed to believe that what was true of him applied to everyone else, too. I think it turned out Lee Joon had one youthful romance turn sour. One. Youthful. Everyone can relate to that! But precious few of us conclude we should shut down our hearts forever from that first break-up. At least not as adamantly as Lee Joon. If they wanted to give us a sincere take on preferring singlehood, a richer backstory was needed. As for Ha Ram, his pushiness made me uncomfortable. Again, a suitor who refuses to take no for an answer can be an endearing storyline. But Lee Joon's refusals were clear and direct. Ha Ram simply refuses to take no for an answer. Given the deference younger Koreans accord seonbae's, his persistence seemed designed to clang the Korean audience's notion of propriety. The series touched on that, but it completely ignored the consent-driven culture of the 2020s. Ha Ram's unrelenting pursuit felt outdated and disrespectful. Outdated because a decade or two ago maybe no one even notices when a sincere suitor pushes his suit innthe face of rejection. Disrespectful because Ha Ram disregards Lee Joon's stated preferences and even fails tomabide by his own promies to tone down their workplace interactions. Speaking of the workplace, Love Mate unfolds in an office, and so does much of Ha Ram's aggressive courtship. By the prevailing legal standards of my state, Ha Ram commits workplace sexual harassment. Perhaps the Korean standard is lower, or perhaps Korean jurists only acknowledge sexual harassment between mixed sex couples, but for me situating so much of the pair's interaction at work was akin to the narrative committing what tennis players regard as an unforced error. None of the sins I outlined here rise to the level of egregious. For the most part, I liked the story well enough. The characterizations disappointed, particularly Ha Ram's tendency to say one thing and then disrespect Lee Joon anyway. It could have been worse, but it wasted its potential. Hence, "cute, enjoyable, but forgettale" works as an epitaph for me too.

    • @dramawhale03
      @dramawhale03 Год назад

      Again I completely agree with forgettable because even myself, as I did a whole ass review on it, can't seem to remember much of it >< For the sexual harassement on workplace, it's actually a good point that I absolutely didn't think of. And I actually it could be considered as such. Though I think he's behaviour turned me off less than it did for you ahah For Lee Joon I think I can only disagree since I relate to him so much. Maybe it could have had a bit more depth, sure, but overall I think it was pretty well developped. But then again, maybe it's just because I relate too much. Like him, or almost like him, I only had one desatrous one sided love in my life and since then haven't dated anyone. My stand on wanting to remain single doesn't come from just that, and maybe that's where they could have expanded a bit more, but I can't deny it plays a role, or did play a role at some point in my life. So yeah, all that to say that too me Lee Joon was a really "nice" character ><

      @@dramawhale03 I do think that one disastrous break-up can lead a person to swear off future love. And I worried my assessment of Lee Joon would come across as disrespecting your choices. I almost _almost_ worked in the statement that "I bet Drama Whale would say more than one factor led to her own singlehood" before deciding commenting on your life was too presumptuous. You wrote, "I only had one disastrous one-sided love," but the implications there was you had other loves too. (Not disastrous or not one-sided.) For Lee Joon, it seemed as if he dipped his toe into the romantic waters one time only, then gave up. For me that was too slender an experience to make permanent life choices. And, while I forget the specifics, I seem to think the disaster he experienced was fairly routine. Hence, a subjective disaster to him, but not one most viewers would objectively agree rises to disaster level. So, I actually think our positions on Lee Joon's singlehood can be reconciled. And, frankly, I wish the writers had treated that stated preference with enough respect to explore its boundaries. Having Ha Ram simply disregard "I prefer to be single" as a viable option means we haven't really seen the premise play out. Ha Ram was incredibly selfish in his pursuit of Lee Joon. Actually, my memory is returning a bit. I think most of my failure to connect with this series when it aired owes to a low assessment of Ha Ram. I liked Lee Joon. I wanted to see him slowly thaw to Ha Ram based on a measured rethink of his stance toward romance--and burgeoning feelings, of course. Instead, Ha Ram overwhelms his defenses, insists on attention (virtual blackmail at one point), and wears out his resistance. I did not find that satisfying. Lee Joon does not choose Ha Ram so much as surrender to him. Not my cup of tea.

(I blame Netflix for shoving it in my face every time I logged in there.) I found it a rather underwhelming series in most every respect and only gave it a 6.5. That is almost a full two points below its MDL average, when normally I land on a score within half a point of the consensus. And, obviously you liked it better than I did. I did find the two lead actors charming, and I did like the flight attendant side couple quite a bit. However the story left me cold. The cliff scene rescue you called out was egregiously bad, but there were a few other moments that felt contrived and artificial as well. On the professional side, the half-sister of the ML was essentially the villain in the piece, and was always one step ahead of her. The rich family drama, sibling rivals compete to be the next CEO, is such a lazy tired trope--but if a series chooses to go down that path, it should have the gumption to make the rivalry real. The plotting, in other words, was the downfall of this series for me. The characters were mostly fine.

Hits: the gay uncles, the motorcycle friends group, Mohk's desire to pursue education, Tawan's self-acceptance. Misses: The entire het storyline, the secondary couple's weird power dynamic and complete fizzle at the end, the random kid who shows up as a plot device. My Ride started off strong but fell apart at the end. It's like the writer left about episode 10 and they hired someone to come in at the last minute to wrap things up. I don't know if it was a COVID casualty, but the series felt very uneven. It's not something I have considered rewatching, which is my litmus test. I'd give it a 7/10. I think I would’ve given My Ride 8.3 or .5 and I would definitely recommend it. I hear what you and John say about it looking dated and it has more to do with the production techniques because we are used to something different since the Covid period and a lot more money has gone into BL in terms of the VISUALS in the main, however not in the storytelling by any chance. I thought they did quite a good job in storytelling here. They’re trying to tell a different kind of story because one person Mork, even though he’s not a schoolboy, he has never considered himself bisexual maybe because he never met someone whom he feels that way about. In terms of knowing their own sexuality I have to disagree with John slightly, that’s actually very common in Thai BL from earliest times - Lovesick; MiR; You’re Ma Boy; UWMA; LBC, HCTM, both 2Moons; The Effect; TTTS; etc, etc, etc. It may be that the one that’s being pursued (Uke) doesn’t know or isn’t out at the start, but this is one of the few times you have a Seme (pursuer) character who doesn’t start out being aware of his sexuality so I’m very grateful for that change. I liked the friendship group because they spent time with them showing you something about their values and what they were about, and the leading guy, he was dating a trans-girl the teacher - another first. The inter generational support from Uncle and his partner was also import to show the queer community Mork has around him leading to his coming out. Again almost unheard of so they broke ground here too. Community is inseparable from queer liberation. I felt they also portrayed the dynamics between the straight couple very well they had class issues, gender issues because as a woman she has to think about other things a man in a sexually conservative doesn’t have to think about when he’s choosing a partner as a professional person himself, but I think they handle that part quite well. The other two were really there to add representation of a different kind of couple, but they didn’t really do much with them so I won’t say more but that participation didn’t do a tremendous amount for them as actors, but again that that was the script, a production choice. And the final thing I really liked about this series is the author Patrick Rangsimat is a gay man himself and who embraces BL which means he’s not writing from the gay mainstream but from the margins. He is also a Doctor as a profession, a neuro surgeon, and very a clever chap who thinks about the neurological effects in the brain under affective storytelling. I don’t think he was involved very much in the actual MR production, however, he has another BL adaption coming up - 7 Days Before Valentines, where I believe he is going to be writing the screenplay so let’s see what happens. My one criticism that I agree with most of the fans on is that the erotic intensity between Tawan and Mork went Down towards the end instead of up, so when they culminated their commitment with a kiss on the beautiful mountain top that kiss was 🙊 so not good at all ha ha but that is my only criticism for them 😄. The hand washing scene was very intense and was for me my favourite scene. Mork is going to be in another BL soon so I’m looking forward to that as well

    With an 8.0 rating, *My Ride* ranked in my Top Ten Thai BL series for the 2022. [Though note only one Thai series made the overall list.] The central romance struck me as an old-fashioned style BL series. That is, if this series had aired prior to 2020, I think it would be recalled fondly with the other elite series of the pre-pandemic era. The pandemic, in fact, delayed its production considerably. By the time the series aired, the genre had evolved, and the plot felt dated. In particular, the Tawan-Mohk relationship felt like a relic of an earlier era of BL. Given that its progenitor novel actually was published years earlier, perhaps that is unsurprising. The romance was solid but unspectacular BL storytelling. In one notable way, however, My Ride actually felt quite innovative, even in 2022: it squarely confronts LGBT themes in a forthright manner most BL series avoid. First, Tawan begins the series as a self-accepting gay man, one who has already experienced commitment to another man. That remains an atypical character type in Thai BL. No need to question a sudden attraction to a same-sex partner, Tawan is secure and confident regarding his identity. Second, Mohk represents a more traditional Thai BL figure, one with no prior attraction to other men who suddenly (it's always sudden in BLs; sudden and fast!) falls for a man he just met for little reason evident in the plot. Moreover, Mohk will actually question what ramifications his unexpected attraction to Tawan will have for his identity as a person and how others will perceive him. Again, Thai series rarely explore the process of "coming out to self," an aspect of coming out often overlooked by dramas in favor of "coming out to family." Third, Mohk has gay uncles who have been in a longtime relationship. Older gay men are a rarity even in western queer series, and their prominenece in this story is unparalleled in BL series. The bickering duo offer advice about commitment during his travails with the girlfriend, and later help him put into perspective the anguish over his sexual identity. For young queer folk raised in cultures that stigmatize homosexuality, older mentors already "in the life" have played an important role in transmission of queer culture. The uncles therefore stand as queer archetypes in that regard. (In one memorable scene, the older gay couple dispenses advice to Tawan, too.) The example of their relationship also inspires Mohk to believe a future with Tawan is possible. It is worth adding that the comedic bickering of the crusty older men almost steals the show, and I regard them as one of the standout side couples of 2022. Fourth, the late reveal that Mohk is raising his nephew as his son (an echo of his relationship to the older gay couple) elevates gay parenting to the forefront of the story's resolution. For Tawan to choose Mohk, he must also choose the "son" that Mohk chose. In accepting Mohk, Tawan acquires not just a boyfriend, but a family--and, via the uncles, an extended family, too. With the Thai government contemplating recognition of gay marriage, the visibility of conventional fa ily-making in a queer context acquires a political hue. Heady stuff for a BL series anchored by an ostensibly outdated romantic storyline. In short, *My Ride* crosses into the territory of LGBTQ+ genre with such aplomb, that one almost forgets that at its core it remains a somewhat outdated BL. Despite the sheer volume of BL series pouring out of Thai soundstages, such powerful rendition of outwardly gay life remains rare. For that reason alone, My Ride deserves a distinguished place amidst the sea of traditional BL series.

    *The Eighth Sense* is what results when writers prioritize creating characters over stories. Honestly, the underlying story remains insubstantial. Episodes never stray far from the sorts of issues and concerns that college students face as they adjust to living away from home: balancing social activities with school and work, hustling for extra bucks, finding a friend group where they fit. These mundane concerns work because our attention focuses on the characters rather than what the characters are doing. The human interactions matter, not the events surrounding them. If the series has a theme, perhaps that theme is "forging connections with others." That theme encompasses not just the central romance (de rigeur for a BL) but also friend groups and even older mentors/muses. The rest of it--acting, directing, cinematography, OST--also contributes to the success, but to me the secret sauce was a series that did not rely on characters derived from cardboard cutouts (looking at GMMTV's repetitive tropes!). As a bonus, the effective way the series deals with mental health and homophobic attitudes makes it stand out. Not sensationalism. Not preachiness. Just characters living lives--lives grounded in recognizable moments. I did my part for the rating--9.0...currently in my personal 2023 Top 5.

Like you, I found stretches in the middle to drag slowly or not to make sense. Like you, my experience of this series left me so dissatisfied I felt no real temptation to go back to watch the uncut version. I recall wondering why a production company would put out an edited version that was so sloppy in telling the story that it would drive people away from the uncut version? So, like you, I condemn the editing here. Unlike you, I liked it a bit better. Probably because i expected the story to focus on redeeming the ghost's situation.which is what the plot delivered. I don't think any story about a ghost can go all in on romance between a ghost character and a living character because that is just not practical. Thus, the reduced emphasis on romance in this series made sense to me. It lived up to my expectations as it were. (Or did it undead to my expectations? ) I wish the rules governing the ghost world had been more strongly delineated, but perhaps that is an area the uncut version actually explains? Finally, I am glad you cited the ending. I absolutely concur that the denouement succeeds. In fact, I would go so far as to say that this series offers the rare example of a finale that is the strongest episode of them all. The last sequence stirred my emotions much more strongly than I had expected based on all the prior episodes. I rated it 6.5, a full point below the MDL score. It aired in 2022 a few months prior to Ghost Host, Ghost House and virtually concurrent with Dear Doctor I'm Coming for Soul. The actor playing Yul was also good. The chemistry they developed didn't quite set the screen on fire, but it was sweet. Good enough. Overall, I think it was one of the better KBLs so far this year. Not nearly as good as Semantic Error, but better than some of the other clunkers that plopped down onto my screen. I'll give it a 7/10. Above average. Good but not great.

      Yeah like you I think that something a bit longer would have helped the drama. It's not always the case, some dramas need to be cut down most of the time. But here the contrary would have worked best. Ye Chan was a little gem to me. Loved his acting. His character alowed the actor to showcase his acting which is great for him. Because as much as Yul's acting was nice too, he felt a bit bland. But that's because of his character^^

    Not surprised by your review 😅 Love Tractor was a disappointment even though I didn’t go into it with any high expectations because I don’t know anything about the manga. Initially I was hopeful because it is the same studio as Semantic Error but when they released the names of different a director and writer team that’s when I started to curb my enthusiasm. I couldn’t finish it. When a series fails it is rarely ever the actors; but it is always the case that the writer that has been hired by a director who also is not up to scratch chooses to let a series ago to air even though it was well below the high water mark of the studio’s last production. Again the issue of the run time is not credible when you look back at some of the most outstanding and memorable BL adaptations and series such as HIStory3:Trapped which had episodes that were less than 15 minutes; Addicted that had 3 whole eps cut but is still undefeated and a fan fave for rewatches nearly a decade later; and Gameboys whose first episode was around 10 minutes but was the critical hit of the pandemic. There are many like these but from the pre covid era before they chased out the best writers from BL productions esp in Thailand and the Philippines. Conversely you have BL incl from Korea now that are around one hour that are still a critical and market failure (Only Friends, Dangerous Romance). The Director and the Writer that he hires are both aware of the time that they have to write the story in, so if they fail to write it for the time they themselves allowed and are paid for, it cannot be because of the time but rather it is because of their own incompetence. Agree with P’John about Hidden Agenda which by the way is very popular within Thailand but it’s really a fan service series for the Ship’s very prominent domestic fandom there. Superstar suffers from the same problem of all cinematographic style and no substance because the Director understands neither BL not romance and neither his writing, nor his lack of humility about his writing skills, seem to be getting better. See also his Bite Me The Series. Step By Step and I Feel You Linger in the air all have directors who suffer from this affliction. Lynn also recommended me Bon Appetit and so far I am enjoying it but I’m only on episode three. The assassin romance costumed drama I’m completely obsessed with right now is a Chinese drama called My Journey To You which is beautiful and exquisite in every way including and especially the writing. It’s on YT and iQIYI

      @@dramawhale03 you are partial to series with a strong romantic storyline. Only Friends is not that, does not aspire to be that. So, it may be out of your happy zone, so to speak. I usually have a strong sense after 8 eps whether a series works for me or does not. With a month of episodes left, I honestly cannot tell you whether Only Friends is messy-good or messy-poor. It may be the most lakorn-adjacent BL series gmmtv has ever put forth, what with the melodrama between characters. It could rise or fall in my estimation over the next month. But I don't have confidence in the track record of Thai screenwriters when it comes to construction of a viable endgame to complex stories. The problem of K-BLs trying to stuff more story into their limited runtime is so ubiquitous that I almost don't even hold it against them anymore. It's like a default fault of the type. The question, rather, is how many loose ends they left dangling and how well they navigated their stunted format to tell a story. In that sense, I felt as if Love Tractor did better than most K-BLs. Yes, there was too much story for eight short episodes. But...much less egregious than others.

      As a corollary to this claim, I'd argue we maybe don't give enough credit to the writers of hour-long, 12 episode Thai and Taiwanese series who manage to sustain our interest across so many hoursof television. Too often, we criticize non-Korean series for having too many filler episodes and plot turns (see, Hidden Agenda, most recently. Or don't see it. It's a 12 episode series that has six episodes of plot.) So, when the longer series get it right, it's really quite an accomplishment. I'd also note that Japanese series often have running times comparable to the K-Bls, but those series seldom feel incomplete like the K-Bls can. So, kudos also to those writers.

    As the calendar turns from September to October, we hit the last quarter of 2023! Here are some statistics of interest only to me. Well, also i offer them to counter some of the judgment against this series. Love Tractor is not perfect, but it created one of the more stronger emotional resonances of the year. For me, it was sneaky good. But, no, not on the level of a Semantic Error. Number of MDL entries this year to date: 45*. That's not all BL, of course, but predominantly. (*--Figure includes K-BL Bon Appétit which released all eight episodes Thursday and which I will finish binging [and therefore assign a rating to] before October starts. Figure also includes a handful of series that ENDED in 2023 and will feature in my 2023 rankings.) Rating given to Love Tractor: 8.5 (tied for sixth in 2023 to date) Percentile for 2023: top 15% of series this year [6-8 out of 45-ish) Other 2023 series given an 8.5: Love Class Season 2, Our Dating Sim Why only Korean series ranked 8.5?: just a coincidence! Lowest ranked series of this year (that I watched): Be Mine Superstar [5.0] Next lowest series: Hidden Agenda [6.0, so substantial gap between the bottom two] Five series from 2023 I rated higher: (10)Moonlight Chicken (9.5) _none yet_ (9.0) My School President, I Will Knock You, The Eighth Sense, Utsukushii Kare S2. Conclusion, Small Picture: Love Tractor is a contender for a Top Ten finish in 2023. Also, 2023 has had a dearth of high quality series! Total entries in MdL list: 439. Number of entries ranked higher than 8.5 (higher than the group that includes Love Tractor): 52 (11% of all) Number of entries in the 8.5 tier: 46 (10% of all) Number of entries 8.0 and lower: 340 (77% of all) Conclusion, Big Picture: Love Tractor resides in the top 20% of series, movies, and specials in my MDL list. All-Time. Also, I am stingy assigning scores 8.5 and higher [one series in five]. Rating given to Semantic Error (2022): 9.5 [relevant because Drama Whale invoked it as a baseline] Number of series on the 9.5 and 10.0 tiers: 21 out of 439 or 5%. Conclusion, comparative: My ratings must perceive a big gap in quality between 9.5 and 9.0. Expecting any series to live up to the elite standard of Semantic Error is unfair. We should regard these elite series as aberrations. Happy to have them when they show up, but let us not fault lesser series for missing their mark. The benchmark should be series in the 9.0 and 8.5 tiers. In that regard, I would say Love Tractor delivers! Let us fault the series that can't be this good! And just rejoice when they are better!

I thought Our Skyy did a great job with the storyline in this portion. It may be my favorite part of Our Skyy. I really enjoyed it and thought that Pond and Phuwin's acting has improved. I also rated the Eclipse fairly high, but didn't love this portion of Our Skyy. I was not a fan of MSP, since I'm not a fan of musicals and I'm SO over high school series. The Our Skyy for MSP was disappointing. I think it would be just above Star/Sky for me. I hated the original Vice Versa, as I thought it was a waste of a good premise. However, I really liked the Our Skyy version! It's an improvement on the original. Bad Buddy is one of my all-time favorite BLs and I loved the callbacks to the original series. Very cute. I also loved the original 1000 Stars. While I liked the premise and the chemistry with Earth/Mix, I didn't love the time the characters spent meandering in the forest. For the sin of wasting a solid sci-fi premise, I skipped these two VV episodes. Your strong comments suggest some redemption may have been earned. I will catch up to them sometime. For the Valor of upholding a solid sci-fi (here, maybe fantasy?) premise, I agree NLMG may have been better than the original. For the sheer joy of quibbling over inane, irrelevant semantics, I'd like to observe that MSP fails to qualify as a musical (noun). The characters do not burst into song to express their inner thoughts or to provide information or action that advances the plot. Rather, it is at best a musical series (adjective). Yes, there's a damn lot of music, but that singing occurs in story context--mostly as band performances or rehearsals. Gmmtv earns ancillary revenue from music sales, but that does not make it a musical! Of course, this distinction has nothing whatsoever to do with your reasons for disliking the series, and I shall not attempt to dissuade you from that view. Cf. Glee has attributes of both "a musical" and "a musical series" and so thoroughly blurs the line between the categories. Meanwhile, "Subspace Rhapsody,"the recent ep 9 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S2, which absolutely is a one-off musical, attempts to define what features distinguish "a musical" from other entertainments. As implicit above, I am not the one who will disrespect a well-executed sci-fi premise, so I yield to the bridge crew of the Starship Enterprise. Even if they didn't understand why they were singing. I agree with your order for the most part! There would be a few that I would’ve switched around, but not very drastically. 8. (6)Star In my Mind I enjoyed it as a light fluff that is mostly forgettable. Much like the series, it was enjoyable to watch but largely forgettable. I enjoy these two actors, and I’m currently watching them in “Hidden Agenda”! I believe both of them really do have better acting skills than they have been given plot. This would be higher on my watch list. 7. (5)Boss & Babe: As much as I totally love the main actors, this is not a favorite series of mine. This really seem to be more of the same if the original. I actually enjoyed Enchanté more. However I’m always happy to see them on my screen. Force/Book are natural chemistry to me. I believe it’s their long lasting friendship that comes across as genuine. 6. (4)Never Let Me Go:I totally agree with your thoughts on this! I didn’t like the series BUT I really DID like what they did with their two episodes. 5. (8)Eclipse: It would in terms of rewatch actual be in 8th place for me. They both are very talented actors, so I would watch them in anything. However this original series and extension was simply okay for me. 4 (7) My School President: I felt it was a totally wasted opportunity to further their storyline. I would have loved to see a fun filled summer or the first year of University. However they are fun to watch. 3. (3)Vice Versa: I thought it was a fun premise that was cute. I enjoyed it! I do think it would’ve been nice to have actually done a little bit more time travel to correspond with the original story, but the original story didn’t do a whole lot what time travel either in retrospect. I have always thought vice versa could’ve actually been a series that didn’t depend on the time travel trope, and it would’ve still been OK. 2. (2)Bad Buddies: I agree with laughing along with watching Pat and Pran. I really enjoyed seeing then again. It was a nice hurrah because sadly I think that will be the last time we see them in a couple ship. However, they are great independent actors, and I enjoy seeing them light up my screen. 1. (1)Tale of A Thousand Stars I totally agree with your thoughts. Some of it was contrived to be sure but wow what showing stopping ending! I cried! Yes, truly cried at the ring 💍 and the proposal! All in all it was a fun watch, and I look forward to an Our Sky 3 someday.

      Snarky rejoinder: possibly, the first time I have witnessed "enjoyed" and "Enchanté" in the same sentence! OK, that was harsh. Also, not precisely true. I am aware many liked it. But this is the only series featured in Our Skyy 2 that I skipped entirely. That abstention owes not to holding in low regard the lead actors or their chemistry, but to a growing disdain for any series that celebrates the perpetuation of coercive behavior inherent to boss-intern dramas. I intend mostly to boycott them from here on, just as I did BATB. That said, this actor pairing in the ongoing Only Friends adds nothing to that story for me, so it's fair to say I don't share your enthusiasm for the actors or their ship. (Which, if we adhere to the three series rule, should never sail again!) [Side note: Step by Step inoculated itself against the boss-intern criticism because those characters felt blowback from colleagues due to their dating, and the boss was extremely conscientious about the power dynamic. Thus, that series addressed and defused the issue I object to. Jun and Jun gets a pass. Since I pride myself on logical consistency, I will justify this exception on the grounds K-BLs are so short and underdeveloped that the series had neither time for exploitative behavior to occur (none does!) nor for a colleague resentment subplot (none appears). If that excuse is too contrived for anyone reading this far, I shall resort immediately to the irrefutable "I made an exception the storyline didn't deserve because I wanted to watch the series."]

    I only bothered to watch four of the entries here in the first place: NLMG, MSP, BB, TOTS. By a long measure, MSP was the least interesting spin on the original. Can't really label it a continuation. It also had the widest gap in enjoyment between the original and the two episode add-on. (That gap exists, however, only because the original was so good.) NLMG surprised me. In some ways, it was superior to the original. Hustorical settings can be problematic, but I thought they handled the past setting competently. [Side note: jump *I Feel You Linger in the Air* near the top of your priority list. It is an excellent series set in the distant past. It's got a ways to go before it finishes (and thereby reaches your binge zone), but i prognosticate it's going to deserve that priority when the time comes.] Like you, I see little reason to discuss BB and TOTS separately. I really appreciated the crossover. Having the characters mix and match pairings in the middle episodes worked well. I think the TOTS episodes were stronger for two reasons. First, in the Bad Buddy timeline, these episodes occur during the three year time jump between ep 11 and ep 12. Thus, in a way Our Skyy does not continue the story of Pat and Pran. Rather, their story here fills in a blank from the missing three years. Nothing could occur in Pat and Pran's relationship in the Our Skyy episodes that would disturb the continuity of the finale. So, their scenes felt more like nostalgia for the original than a new layer to the character arcs. Yet, what gloriously fun nostalgia that was! Second, among the episodes I did watch, TOTS was the only one that amounted to an actual addendum to the existing story. New information if you will. After two+ years living and working on that mountain, Phupa's and Tian's relationship has become bit stale. The arrival of a determined Pran and a whirlwind Pat jolted some energy into their daily routine. Obviously the denouement left those characters in a fabulous place, the very epitome of fluffy BL closure--for the characters, the fans, and (hopefully) that particular ship.* I skipped the rest because I just could evince no desire to revisit those characters. *--nothing against the Earth-Mix pairing. I just think actors need fresh challenges for professional growth.

I didn't really think of it this way but it makes a lot of sense. And honestly, if I'm a hundred percent honest with myself, I think I would have put MSP lower in my list if I was not a bit biased >< I Feel You Linger In The Air is in my list but I'll try to remember what you said about it :D So far it has a good rating as well (I don't have much 8 rated dramas left in my list) so I shall remember easily :D

    Well, personally, I think, it's quite obvious that Kawi was already down for Pisaeng pretty bad by the time Pisaeng confessed to him on the rooftop. The way Kawi eagerly waited for Pisaeng to contact him back, the way he literally all lit up as soon as he got the message, the way he left Pear without a second thought and rushed to run to the rooftop, those speak for itself. And the simple fact that he didn't even think about Pear until much later, too. So yeah, by then he was already down for Pisaeng really bad. It's just that Kawi himself was not aware of his feelings yet. He was too stuck to his plan to "fix" his past. Because that was his "unfinished gestalt" for a whole 12 years. (Google it) But to put it roughly, an unfinished gestalt is an unfinished business that has become a fixation and prevents us from moving on with our life. It's often the result of unexpressed emotion. So every gestalt needs its closure. If you take a closer look, you will see that once Kawi was able to give the gift to Pear and confess to her, his fixation on her began to gradually fade. He wasn’t even that upset that Pear didn’t accept his feelings. Well, he rather expected that. But essentially, it was because it was really important for him to finally be able to confess. Because he was able to complete that unfinished gestalt at last. And now he can finally move on with his life. Again, if you look closely, you'll realize that he's been falling in love with Pisaeng for a while now. As they say, the truth is in the details. Pisaeng is the one always on his mind. Not to mention the way Kawi looks at Pisaeng at times. There's pure love in his eyes. But, of course, Kawi will continue to think and say for some time: “I still like Pear,” because he has thought of her as “the love of his life” for way too long. it's only natural. It had been in his mind for 12 years! All this, coupled with his complete inexperience in love, prevents him from sorting out his feelings sooner. But when Kawi finally confesses to Pisang, he doesn't say, "I don't like Pear anymore." He says, “I don’t like Pear. I like you,” because he finally sorted out his feelings. I mean, he finally realized that what he felt for Pear wasn't love, love. It was more of a feeling of admiration and gratitude, coupled with the need to fulfill something that had not been done 12 years ago. And it was only with Pisaeng that Kawi experienced a real feeling of needing someone so badly as if it was the air for him to breathe. He finally knew what true love feels like. So I think the speed at which the relationships between the characters develop in this series is very natural and realistic, and Kawi and Pisaeng got together exactly when they should :)

    Bon jour, ma cherie, would you please add Love Class 2 to your every growing list of series to watch. And, if I may say, I think it prioritizes the emphasis on romance that you really seem to look for in your romance stories. I don't recall whether you reviewed Love Class (2022) previously, but this is a sequel in title only. The story do not continue. New characters enroll in the same class. Pretty sure you'll like it.

    In my own personal world of ratings, any series 8.5 or higher is an excellent series, although I am quite stingy with 9.5 and 10 (the truly elite). 7.5 and 8.0 include very good shows, but probably had some flaw I could not overlook. 7.0 encompasses the merely good, not great. Below 7 is where "bad" starts for me. Though 6.5 might be better characterized as "missed the mark," "went off the rails," or "botched execution" rather than truly bad. I rarely score anything below a 5.

      That's actually how I try to see things. But that's precisely what's wrong. I try only x) Because in reality I can't help but view anything under 8 as not very good.. And it's a problem because a lot of dramas fall in the 7 category :/ And also the fact that when I rate 7 or 7.5 myself I don't view the drama as not veyr good but good ! But when it's to pick a drama to watch it's more complicated..
