- This is my review of the Rode Vlogger Kit which includes the VideoMic Me-L, Windshield, SmartGrip phone mount and tripod, microLED light, diffuser and colored filters. Could this be a great beginner setup for vlogging on RUclips, Instagram, and other platforms?

I pretty much agree! I kinda like the idea. Seems like a kit put together for convenience and value. I definitely like how it just plugs straight into the lightning/USB port! That’s neat! The sound seems okay with the wind deflector. It does a good job of cutting out background noise. I actually like how my iPhone picks up background noise like birdsong. But if you wanted a directional microphone for some reason, such as vlogging, then it seems to do that okay

You actually hear more windows with the microphone if you put on the windscreen it would take away that background noise but there is an incredible notice of audio difference with a built-in microphone and the rode videomic go

hey, can you use the microphone with the windshield with ultrawide? I use Iphone 11 for vlogging and been trying to find a good mic. I use mainly ultrawide so can you modify the ''fur'' so it isnt seen on iphone 11 ultrawide?

Is the audio not in sync because the phone’s frame rate is all over the place? I notice 29,76 to 30,34 variable ranges on footage I shoot on mine.

Default cam works! Though a commenter just suggested to use a 3rd party app which makes the mic sound better, I'll have to try that out

Grabbed the mount listed in your description because I like the ability to customize it, it provides. Now I am having trouble finding a USB C mic that doesn't include a mount lol

I am using my iPhone more & more for vlogging as well instead of lugging around a dslr. Personally I thought the iPhone mic did a better job than the rode mic in some shots. Plus the windscreen in frame was annoying. I am curious how the rode wireless go would compare. So i’ll check out your video on that. I think with the mic closer to you face would be a lot better than both the rode mic in this video as well as the internal iPhone mic. 👍🏼
I bought Rode vloggers kit and went to make a vlog,it worked good most of the time but after every few mins sound gets very low almost gone and then after few mins gets back to normal.if you could tell me to fix that please i use android smartphone,thank you

The built-in microphone on the iPhone sounds amazing by itself. The Rode wasn't shining like I thought it would and sounded dead in comparison. Interesting 🤔

we rec'd our rivo today and the instructions say the microphone does require triple A battery... your vides states o/w and while im looking at the same mic I cannot see where to put battery in mic. I agree with you .... but it says I need triple a and the mic is not working but i cannot see how to put a battery in anyways... help....l.olllolllol its ok i will call the company in the morning.
Have you tested the Deity D4 Duo mic? I don’t think they have a Vlogging Kit but I do like the fact you can have live mics facing forward and backwards on separate tracks. You can also plug in an external mic like from the Rode wireless receiver.

I accidentally bought a Rode Vlogger usb C edition instead of the IOS version and I have an iphone 13 pro max but what extra do I need to connect the mic to my iphone? please help!

So this is the kit that yo recommended and as I understand it we do not need spend crazey a mount of moola on mobile volging kits and shoot a quick one what the moste common mistake made if a frist time volger by a volging kit a specialy for mobile device...?

Generally the audio will fall out of sync with the cell phone because of the phone’s variable framerates. You have to convert the file first to a constant frame rate.

at 2:23 iPhone Mic louder than the rode but with the wind screen it has less background noise

The audio cuts on this particular rode mic happen a lot and it’s been pretty sad. It’s been a part of my filmmaking kit since I shoot on a GoPro and an iPhone myself! Great vid btw bud

I use two editing apps.
Kinemaster and VideoLeap.
And I film everything on my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE

I found that the Rode VideoMic Me-L worked best when I used it with the Filmic Pro app, when using it with the default iPhone camera app it barely improved the audio on my old XS Max, but the built-in mics on the new iPhones are much better and if you tweak it in post the audio should be good enough for vlogging. I'm just not sure the Rode kit is worth the money though, thanks for sharing.

The video is good but I suggest you turn off background music when you do this kind of test :)
Is the wind furry visible all the time or it can be adjusted to not be seen in the video ? Or do I have to edit it in post processing ?

Internal mic on phone sounds better. The wind sock sounds better in wind but sounds tinny not full like the internal mic

Possibly, but I think you'd need the 3.5mm model, plus buy the gopro mic adapter which kinda stinks

I bought this to use with my iPhone pro max and after about 10 seconds the playback has a really annoying buzz. Anyone any idea why or what I could do to avoid it. I recorded on the iPhone camera.
Same happened with me! Replaced the product, and it happened again... tried with 3 different phones (Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 Ultra and Huawei P30 Pro) - same result with every phone. Every take is useless, and Røde Support doesn't have a solution. Thumbs down.

I'm sure you could either brush it/snip it/haircut it out of frame. Each smartphone camera will have a different FOV as well, iPhone is usually the widest

Happened on my 11 Pro as well. Pretty lame and unfort that Apple hasn't solved this issue. (Same with audio sync)
