    Great vid man, I have had juvenile jds for about 6 months and haven’t seen much growth they are in a 20 gallon to grow out and there’s only 2 they are fed bloodworms and brine shrimp they are still not very colorful. I was wondering if this was a normal thing for juveniles. Maybe I am just too anxious to get those beautiful colors.

      Chase Morrow thanks! I would say that’s pretty typical. They may hit a growth spurt soon. Just keep solid water parameters and they should grow soon. Good luck

    hello, i have a question about my tank :)
    i have a 120g/450l aquarium with 2 electric blue acara, 2 jack dempsey, 1 electric jack dampsey, 2 rainbowcichlids and 6 angelfish. Do you think i can add a green terror? i think it might work but i wanna be sure :)
    thanks in advance! :D

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  4 года назад

      pj hey there. I think adding a green terror could work in a tank that size. I’d keep an eye on the angelfish particularly, as they could be bullied some. Plenty of hiding spots could also help reduce potential issues

    • @CichlidBros

      Best option is letting the eggs hatch and then move the fry to a separate tank a few days later. Good luck!

    about what size do you recommend releasing jack dempseys into a community tank. i have one secluded about maybe 1.5 inches. not in a rush to add him but just want a good idea of when it’s safe to release him. my other fish are 2 oscars about 3” at most and 2 black convicts about the same size. i have a 125 gallon long

  • @Ochibason
    @Ochibason 3 года назад

    So the two from Caylors. The one with bands or strips is that the male?? and the bigger one the female? The one with strips kinda looks like a convict.......... I have a pair now got them small 5 years ago and they have laid eggs several times and had fry. The big one 6.5 inches I believe is the female while the smaller one with bands stripes vertical (looks like a convict) is only like 4.5 inches. Moved them now from a 75 gal to a 120 low boy Oceanic aquarium tall and put in their large clay pot. Will see. Nice vid.

    My Dempseys just hatched their first brood while we were on vacation, and we came back to hundreds of free swimmers! I separated the rest of the tank mates, and if I want to try and grow to sell the fry to my lfs, should I take the parents out, too? Or will they still be ok in there while they grow? They are in a 75g.

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  22 дня назад +1

      They will usually not harm the fry

    This is an old post, but I hope you see this. I have a mated pair dempseys. Everything I remove the babies which is around 4 to 6 weeks, they mate again and I'm getting flooded with too many babies, my LFS can't even keep up. Any ideas on how to slow them down from breeding? I'm on my 5th batch right now that just hatched today.

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  4 месяца назад

      Only real way is to separate the pair. Once they get going they don’t stop 😬

  • @amy-bethpriore4899
    @amy-bethpriore4899 2 месяца назад

    Does it matter how you introduce the pair? For example, if a female is already in the tank, can you just add the male or vice versa?

    I just got a juvenile Jack Demsey (about 1.5") and he/she has a black and gold color with just a tiny amount of blue speckles on the cheeks.
    My question is, would it eventually grow up covered in blue specs the way 99% of Jack Demsey look on RUclips or is my fish going to remain gold and black forever?
    Thanks!
