    I just love watching your videos where you talk for a fairly short while about a game (versus a 5-15 minute review of a single game, even though I enjoy those as well), because your style of information sharing seems to be a good match for what I wish to hear about when trying to catch the gist of a game quickly. Your monthly update videos are some of my favourites on youtube, and this was just an excellent gathering of short and sweet game info. Please never stop.

    There were two 2019 puzzle games involving skewed perspectives: Superliminal and Manifold Garden. They were on the short and easy side, but quite inspired. Superliminal has a Stanley's Parable vibe, while Manifold Garden may resemble Antichamber with its line art and morphing environment.

    I really, really need to play through Three Houses. I keep trying to sit down to play it late at night when my sleeping drugs have already kicked in, and...it is a lot to take in when my head is swimming, haha. From the copious quantity of names that I need to learn to a system where I can see a lot of complexity but it's not immediately obvious what I should have figured out by now (especially with a poor memory while sleepy) has made it pretty tough to get into. But it looks so gooood, and everything I've heard about it sounds fantastic! 🤩

    Great list, I agree on Control and Void Bastards, which I'm currently playing. As for Pathologic, the excellent original was one of my hardest gaming experiences and I don't think I would subject myself to it again... it felt even harder than any Dark Souls. And I just can't get past Outer Wilds cartoony design, maybe I have to play it more.

    Nice list, you have a good taste in videogames. Even if some of them are lesser known, I heard most of them on your list. 2019 was a good year for indie and AA titles.
    The big AAA games failed for me in 2019, maybe Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order was one exception. I wasn't able to play Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3 or The Outer Worlds because of Epic exclusivity.
    But 2020 will be a fantastic year for AAA games, new console generation, Cyberpunk 2077, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2, Final Fantasy 7 remake and so on.

I confess I have spent the bulk of this year either playing older games, or expansions/DLC's for older games (long story, but I finally got into the Witcher games, which shows how far behind I am :D ).....so haven't bought or played any of the games on this list. However, your list has been an excellent source of potential Steam Wish-list items for the first quarter of 2020-like Void Bastards, Operencia, Plague Tale & Disco Elysium. Thank you so much for putting this list together, & best wishes for a great year of gaming in 2020 (with the upcoming releases of CP2077, RE3 remake & Bloodlines 2 though.......how can it go wrong? ;) ).

    Happy New Year everyone! May 2020 be even better than 2019 for you all.
    Oh, and I didn't wind up playing the noir taxi cab thriller you reviewed Pam, but I did play through Danganronpa 1 with my brother over the holidays. The game is a decade old, but still absolutely mesmerizing. The evolution of the Phoenix Wright series, with similar general themes, but hyper stylish presentation, mood perfect music, surprising gameplay, and a fantastic Anime like narrative that completely absorbed and challenged us. I give the game a 9.
    Started playing RE 2 Remake with the GT 1030 I got for Christmas (the RE Engine is so well optimized it's scary, even a 2 GB card like mine plays the game with a smooth framerate and PS4 level visuals, amazing lighting effects that really set the tone).

    • @Cannotbetamed1
      @Cannotbetamed1  4 года назад +1

      I don't think I played any taxi cab thrillers this year. Danganronpa looks cool.

    • @elberethgilthoniel1397
      @elberethgilthoniel1397 4 года назад

      Cannot be Tamed Woops. My bad. I think I confused the game with Interrogation. I got the noir aesthetic right, and the thriller part right, but somehow I thought the protagonist was a taxi driver. Must have conflated with Hotel Dusk a bit. I was on a bit of a Detective game kick for a while there.
      Danganronpa is a revelation. For people who like the exaggeration of characters, themes, settings of Anime, I'm positive this game will quickly become a top favorite. There's a reason the series is 3 games long and inspired an Anime series. The mysteries to solve are so enthralling. And the game gets you in the feels, and leaves you with some quintessentially Anime evoking reflections.
      If you liked the relationship mechanics of Fire Emblem, I think you'll like Danganronpa's iteration of that gameplay loop too.
      Hope you had a nice New Year's. I celebrated with my family and then got drawn into a multi hour dive into RE 2 Remake. It really looks amazing, yet feels just like RE 2, despite that game being more than 20 years old. I hope I'll be able to pull myself away and get back to being productive.

    I was torn with A Plague Tale. Hugo was incredibly annoying at times, but I think they just did too good a job of emulating a five-ish-year-old kid because I'm 100% positive they would be every bit as annoying and inconveniencing as him in those situations. Amicia turned out to be a great character all around, though, along with the supporting cast. I really enjoyed Control's use of the SCP mythos; I never thought I would play a game that would use them in any way. I'd describe both games as actual experiences with A Plague Tale being the real surprise.
    Along with those, I'd go with Samurai Shodown, Crying Suns, Ace Combat 7, and just by virtue of time spent, Imperator: Rome. Happy New Year!

    Also, I wanted to ask about Bloodstaind - was the background music of that portion of the video taken from the game itself? - because it reminds me so much of YS 8 sound track. Also, I read some back things about the Switch port of Bloodstaind, which port would you suggest getting?

      Heaven's Vault was a nice game. Slay the Spire was a strange one for me because I only clicked with one of the characters (the orb guy). I didn't like playing as the other two at all.

      @@Cannotbetamed1 For me, what Jon Ingold is doing with Inkle Studios is more interesting than the end products themselves. I enjoyed Heaven's Vault, for sure, but how the dialogue system was built was more interesting for me, in that it doesn't have dialogue trees but rather is built entirely different from almost all other games, which Jon explains in some talks he's given.

      @Cannot be Tamed Yeah, Untitled Goose Game is such a cute and fun game, I couldn’t help but love it. Got to be honest though, 2018 was a better year for gaming, but those were my favorite games from 2019 I’ve played. Lemme know what you think of the new Shovel Knight DLC btw. Have an awesome new year.

    I haven't played Patholigic 2, but everything else from Ice-Pick Lodge has been truly intriguing for me. Pathologic and The Void are creepy as hell, and Cargo made me laugh so hard I shot beer out my nose. I should really dig into their library again.

    Great list, we have a similar taste (thats why I'm subscribed I guess :D ) so I can absolutley agree with the majorty of your choices (Outer Wilds would be my Nr 1.) . I really loved that this years games looked promising in the anouncements and, for the most part, did manage fullfill all the expectations I had for them. But I really want to get of my chest ist that I found Operencia to be the biggest surprises in years. The gameplay was not new but the setting was fresh and exciting. And that title music I still get goosebumps from it. Also, not to throw some shade on Iga and his team, but did you notice that "Luxurious Overture" in Bloodstained almost exaclty sounds like "Crucified" from the 90s Band "Army of lovers" ? Not sure if this was intentional or not .

    • @Cannotbetamed1
      @Cannotbetamed1  4 года назад

      Yes! Operencia seemed to come out of nowhere and it was such a delight!
      I'm not familiar with Army of Lovers, so I can't really comment on music similarities.

    2. Crackdown 3
    3. Code Vein

    This was a impressive list; though admittedly, I only recognized about half the games on it... >.< With so many stellar titles this year, I can see why it would have been a challenge to select your top 10, let alone rank them. But I think you nailed it.
    I'm definitely going add Operencia to my must-play list... it just looks like a game I could happily get lost in. And A Plague Tale, that one just feels like its characters and story would leave a lasting impression on the player. I got sort of a The Last of Us vibe from it; like from the attachment you get to the people in the story, you know?
    Thank you for this list, and for all the hard work that you put into your content; it's fantastic. Hope you & yours have a safe and happy New Year, and that 2020 brings you even more great games.

      @@Cannotbetamed1 It launched kind of under the radar. It is a very obvious Zelda inspired game, open worldish, dungeons, some puzzles elements are taken straight out of Zelda, like those wind bridges you can turn in Twilight Princess for example, but it works, and the game looks gorgeous!
