Feel your pain mate 48years on the spanner’s and counting been where you are countless times wanting to pack it all in. Like you say poor pay bloody Fortune in tools no appreciation it’s a skill in itself working on rusty neglected piles of Shite and most customers think it’s just a few nuts n bolts that wiz off with a impact gun Grrrr.

As a diy’ey since 88 i don’t know how do it, i only do basic jobs and less so now id rather pay someone. Had to do an alternator over Xmas, only cause needed car and no one could fit me in. What an utter pita it was cold wet then neighbours saying ‘what you doing’ jees I just wanted to drive the sodding thing into a canal throw the tools and tell everyone to F off.

We all know how you feel mate. I've learned after many years of swearing when jobs go wrong, is to walk away have a cup of tea, then go back it. 9 times out of 10 you'll crack it straight away after a break. I sometimes will sleep a diagnostic problem with the answer in my head in the morning. 😂

put the cable on before you put the caliper on and release the handbrake, made that alot harder than it needed to be.
never had an issue doing it that way. just caused yourself alot of pain pal.

When I get stuck with a job not going right like that cable just walk away and go back to it in 10 minutes and 9/10 times it goes right.

Made my day 👍Lion. What are people on about a air gap do they mean if you fit the cable before hanging the calip the piston could of adjusted itself out to much and need resetting. If I struggle getting the cable off the old one I'll wire the new lever back and reset the piston before I start fit it snip it boom job done

  • @Parknest

Leon, I feel your pain. I have to do all my spannering at the roadside. While it is good practaice to change both calipers it is not strictly necessary. I changed just the left rear caliper on my Volvo XC90 and the rear brakes are still fine to this day. I don't bother greasing the back of pads either (that's what the aint-squeal shims are for).

It might not help you but when us non professionals struggle we question ourselves or our tools, so when you see a professional slipping and struggling it just means that some jobs are a right pain compared to other repairs. Glad you got it sorted in the end though.

Hello, mate! Just one question. I have just bought a 2011 mitsubishi asx, 1.8 diesel, 150 hp. To do the timing chain, do I need to remove the camshaft and cam sprocket from the engine? I have a drawing on my computer with the timing chain on that car and this is what I can understand from it. Thank you!

Whenever I’ve fitted rear calipers, I just use a 13mm spanner on the handbrake arm nut and it moves easily.
Much easier than struggling trying to wedge it up and damaging the handbrake arm stop.

Glad to see you're no longer greasing the back of the pads. You save money by not wasting it there. I used to be in that band camp of grease on pads. Then when I tried without, there were no issues. I stick to quality brake pads and shoes. They cost more, but the job is done right first time every time.

Was the piston seized in the caliper too or was it just the two pins that slide in the carrier that was seized? Or was the caliper leaking? Bastard of a job

    • @richardsheil5289
      @richardsheil5289 5 месяцев назад

Nothing wrong with caliper. Pin seized and pads jammed is enough to cause that unevenness.

You need m10 bolt holding the disc because fords rust like shit. And if it was any smaller or thinner then it will rust itself on. The bigger the better easily opens without messing it up or snapping it off.

A total bodgit.....slide pin holes can be cleaned by filling with petrol/kerosene/diesel and pumping with the pin....refresh, refill until clear.....then re-grease clean components.....not too time consuming.
Seized caliper piston....cheap kit and patience to return to safe service in most cases.
When you have little experience and knowledge....fit new bits every time....the bullshit solution
