    When you get older and need glasses for up close work, the hand foilers are great. As it gets harder to see that the glass is in the middle of the foil. It alleviates a lot of wasted foil.

    Thank you for mentioning about mottled glass being more difficult to cut. I checked my glass stock and have a small sheet of mottled blue glass. Can't recall off hand what project I bought it for but I'll keep what you said in mind when I do go to use it. Oh, and I noticed your use of a piece of padded plastic material on the grinder table. Does that help you keep better control in moving the glass around against the bit?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  7 месяцев назад

      Hi! So when I'm grinding smooth glass, I do it on top of a piece of thin foam to prevent scratching the smooth glass. Bits of glass can get stuck between the glass and the grinder bed, and then the vibrations move the grit around and scratch the glass. If you've ever noticed that happening, the foam helps alleviate that

    Where did you get those caps for your fingers you use while grinding? My finger nails keep getting eaten up. Beautiful piece!

      They're cut-resistant finger cots from Amazon. If you can't find them, you can click on the link tree link in the description box, and I have a link to all of the tools and supplies I use. 👍🏻

    May I ask a question? I see your cut line is the middle of your marker. I’ve tried cutting outside, inside, centre….the pieces fit together well but after foiling, gaps appear. I do burnish and burnish, but sometimes the solder slips through the gaps or doesn’t want to bead. What could I be doing wrong please, or is it just practice and practice? Thank you.

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  7 месяцев назад

      A lot of it is practice, yes. I tend to cut in the middle of my marker lines to be cautious, in case the glass chips when breaking (which happens on occasion and is super annoying). So, I cut and grind all of my pieces first, then while I'm foiling, I continually check the fit of my pieces together, and go back and forth to the grinder as needed. You want a little wiggle room between your pieces, but you don't want large gaps anywhere. How are you tracing your pieces? Light table, cut out pattern and marker, Cricut machine pattern?

    Hey Samantha, what material/board are you using to pin your glass down? It looks like really soft material. Is it a ceiling tile?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  6 месяцев назад

      You are correct! I just use those cheap/lightweight ceiling tiles from the hardware store.

    Hi Samantha! I need help, im an absolute beginner, and i have some technical problems. After i finished tinning the edges i have lift in the foil, i had to peel off all the sides, some came out harder than others. I didnt clean the edges properly? Also, afer i use my solder iron, the tip has a dent in it ( the first time a got a hole : D ), how long does a tip last, is mine very bad, or not the right alloy?
    Sorry, english is not my first language, love watching you from Eastern Europe.

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass
      @SamanthaAshleyGlass  7 месяцев назад

      Before foiling I clean all the pieces with alcohol to remove oil residue/dust, you can also just clean the pieces with soap and water. Make sure you burnish your foil. When tinning you can try a lower heat and move faster.
      As far as your solder iron tip goes, I've never experienced that, could be a quality issue, too high heat. I've had my tips for a couple years and they're still good. I use a hakkofx601 iron and their tips

      Well, i need to buy a good solder iron with temp control :). Everyone is saying ,, oh in the beginning you just need some basic, like get a buffer stone". After half an hour of barely grinding some pieces and hand pain, i bought a grinding machine so fast :).
