The man was one of a kind. He died WAY too young. Few made it look as effortless, and yet made it sound as good as Robert Palmer. He simply oozed class from every pore.
Let’s review why this is the ultimate version of this song: Robert Palmer’s next-level energetic delivery (far different than the album version); Max Weinberg’s surreally hard-kick drumming; a bassist who matches Max’s drumming with one or the tightest performances I’ve ever heard; horns that are impeccable; tight studio-grade vocals; audio mixing and production levels that are off the charts. In short, from the suits to the performance, this was seriously professional.
@@NMarsdenHe smoked 60 cigarettes a day. Unfortunately it's no surprise he's gone when you realise that unsustainable lifestyle. Nonetheless, he will be dearly remembered for the monumental talent that he was.
I've been watching a few versions of Simply Irresistible back to back - I can honestly say that the older RP got, the more powerfully he sang it. It became a much raunchier song by this 1997 version. Respect to Mr Irresistible Palmer.
One of the best (and most accurate) comments I ever read about Mr Palmer was that he probably got out of bed in the morning, looked in the mirror, ran his fingers through his hair and thought "Yep" So much class, charm, sex appeal and sheer talent crammed into 1 body. Rest well Robert knowing you'll never be forgotten 💘💘💘
Love when Robert cracks up a bit during the last verse. I believe he was going to say another word other than "kissable". : ) Eddie Martinez is a beast on guitar. He worked with Robert on several albums and tours. I was fortunate enough to see Robert and Eddie together on three different tours. Three of the highest packed energy shows I have ever seen. When I saw him on the "Riptide" tour and "Addicted To Love" was blowing up the radio, Robert actually forgot the words to "Addicted" for a few seconds. He had the same reaction as here. He and a few other band members just laughed it off and he kept going. Not a whole lot of chatter from Robert between songs. The man and his band just came out and wailed for over 2 hours! Such wonderful memories! : )
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing, Joe. I always imagined Robert Palmer being that way, a quiet, straightforward, hard working musician who did his bit and had fun but didn't mess around. Good to know he was like that live.
"Well dressed man in rock n roll", that's great and all but what gets lost is the fact that this man was a talent. Great singer, played guitar and piano, wrote good songs and most of all.......the guy was a kick ass front man. RP was a really good r and b singer. I was a teen in the 80's and going back and listening to these songs(especially his early stuff, sneakin Sally, looking for clues, every kinda people) the man's voice was on point. Good stuff Mr. Palmer , You were one of the great ones!
Not only could he rock, but he was incredibly convincing as a performer. Example: 3:35--the moment he puts his hand on his head as if to keep himself from completely losing his s***. God I love him.
I always found Robert Palmer to be a unique stylish front man waring a suit & tie with a short consecutive haircut his hard driving rocking music and vocals form Power Station through his solo career. I always said he resembled and was the Cary Grant of Rock n' Roll. R. Palmer's music was great and those early MTV music videos with those great looking girls propped up as his band in those videos were to die for.... Cool Live On Simply Irresistible - Robert Palmer RIP.
ya gotta love him! and yeah, I laughed when he stalled and sang 'kissable' right along with him, cuz it made him more 'real' to me. Robert was and still is quite the package 💝
Kochab Is the Max Weinberg band - Max Weinberg 7 The same band, I mean the band on the Conan O'brien Tv Show is the band of Max Weinberg, and Max Weinberg is the drummer of Bruce Springsteen.
Max Weinberg on drums on that song is beyond awesome, and Palmer's pounding vocal delivery is off the charts. What a shame we lost Palmer so young. A performance not to be forgotten even with poor video quality, but the audio was just fine.
Really? I saw Springsteen a few years back, don't really remember how long ago and he was drumming in Max's place for the E Street Band.. He absolutely killed it, gave the songs a new drive I felt some had been lacking in later years. Jay is his name, right?
runner4life1984 Mr. Palmer died from a myocardial infarction, a type of heart attack, in Paris in the early morning hours of Sept. 26, 2003. He is sorely missed.
Legitimately one of the best singers of all time. This is pure class.
One of the few singers who are as good or BETTER, LIVE.😎

Agreed 💯 👍
I agree, great performance.

you be like Robert Palmer Young your going to kill rom died J's like Robert palmer
He smoked 60 cigarettes a day, could say he was burning the candle at both ends, even despite avoiding booze and drugs of the typical rockstar.
@@EyewitnessHistoryChannel
Plenty of smokers live longer. I suspect booze and/or cocaine added to the damage.
MAX WEINBERG on the drums? Man that dude has played with the best and Robert Palmer is among the greats for sure. Legends!
How can a live version of a song sound so perfect ha ha! Supreme stuff from the late great Robert Palmer :)
Palmer did it !!!
,
The best version is live on Letterman
Max Weinberg 7 were a great band
This kind of people should never die. They make our lives so much better with their music. Robert, God bless you whenever you may be.
Without a doubt the best live performance from a show band ever just Awesome.
This performance is 10/10.. good lord, they tore that place apart
I was given free tickets to one of his concerts and I went not knowing who he was....and the show was simply outstanding!
THIS artist and THIS band together = meant to be. What a damn perfect pairing.
Now this pure class, from Palmer to the band.
Yes 💛✨
This MAN ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I didn’t appreciate him when I was 20 in ‘88 but boy does he look good to me now

Not gonna lie... That bass player FUCKING DELIVERS!
Still cant believe he's gone. What a voice and class act!
Either are we! He's supposed to be around!
One more real musician gone!! Sucks! 😔
He was only 54. Heavy smoking got him
@@NMarsdenHe smoked 60 cigarettes a day. Unfortunately it's no surprise he's gone when you realise that unsustainable lifestyle. Nonetheless, he will be dearly remembered for the monumental talent that he was.
All band is badass, but "the kick" of Max Weinberg sounds so perfect!
Bit of that E Street sound in there
Yep, professional to the core.
Это какой-то шаманизм , этот барабанщик !
Deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame
2020 and still an incredible toon. Mr. Palmer was smooth as silk
...and still incredible in 2023.
Max makes playing the drums look so easy... he doesn't even break a sweat!
WillCorg max is like the rest of the band totally awesome
I love it that the entire band is wearing jackets and ties like Palmer. Classic.
They typically did anyway on Conan.
We’ll said …
Such an awesome performance! And Max playing right in the pocket. Robert, a class act. Gone too soon, but the music will live for a long, long time.
Man, one hell of a band, and a hell of a song. And Robert Palmer was king!
He's really simply irresistible.
Yes he was so good looking
THIS ABSOLUTELY KICKS ASS!!!
Dude has a set of pipes on him for sure.
Who’s still listening in 2021? RIP to the one and only Robert Palmer. Gone far too soon.
I've been watching a few versions of Simply Irresistible back to back - I can honestly say that the older RP got, the more powerfully he sang it. It became a much raunchier song by this 1997 version. Respect to Mr Irresistible Palmer.
Yep, I was there in the 80's. I don't recall seeing 'Palmer girls' in see-through dresses though.
100%

When I saw it the first time, I thought it was some type of performance flub, but I still laughed!
This is incredible- great band backing a great singer.

The only rock star that looks like a Wall Street stock broker.
Those are the real badass rock stars. Is all in their bones and not just fashion. True badass. 🤘
James Murray he dresses much better than a stock broker. It’s a really stylish, impeccable suit.
bryan ferry also looked like a guy from the NYSE
Stock broker with charm.
He's simply irresistable. 😂
More like the CEO of an investment company.
There’ll always be a place in my heart for Robert Palmer. One smooth, suave and sophisticated son of a gun. A true ladies man. Rest easy Rob
Absolutely 1st class ..from Robert himself to every single member of the band dressed in suit and tie..just oozes class..brilliant song ..❤❤
Wow! Amazing performance, the drum set sounds insane! Fantastic drummer.

It actually ADDED to the song because it left an enticing pause there... LOL
Well we know the word he was implying rather than kissable
Possibly one of the best live performances I've ever seen. High energy.
If anyone could have/should have - lived forever- it should have been this man. Bless you RP You are with me every 24/7
God I loved the 80s and 90s. What a time to be young ...
Very well done!!!
Max Weinberg can make drumming sound good with an empty soda can!
Wow, he's using Conan O'Brien's house band here. I love those guys. They fuckin' rocked this one! Too cool.
