  • The late great Robert Palmer & Max Weinberg 7 performing on the Hard Rock Live special which aired 4/20/97.
P.S. The HQ version of this clip was damaged so I originally only posted 4/5 songs from the special. But I recently found a lower quality version (with lots of unfortunate VHS video glitches) on an old HDD. It's not the greatest quality but at least they're all here now.
    Anyway, enjoy!

He was underrated. So talented, funky, classy with an amazing stage presence. Ringo Starr and Phish both cover this song among many others. Robert Palmer had True Soul.

Would have love to have heard Allen and Palmer do this together. On Palmer's album, this is the third song of the famous trilogy, "Sailin' Shoes, Hey Julia, and Sneakin' Sally " The first and third songs were produced by Toussaint at Sea Saint studios. Rock in Peace, Allen, Robert, Lowell George, Richie and Paul.

One of my 1st concerts---saw him in 1976 in Atlanta. He opened for Gary Wright. Dreamweaver era. I didn't care about seeing Mr. Wright---& I was not alone in bumming a bit when Mr. Palmer left the stage. He always dressed very classy---especially for back in the day. I miss Robert Palmer.....always felt he was a bit under rated---but I liked his early, before the Addicted To Love days. Addicted To Love was interesting---but like most music from the 80's---we lost quite a lot for a decade. We lost the funk~at the very least! Thank heavens the 90's brought back some swag. Now who knows what 2020's will bring??? Afraid to even look for new music. Maybe I'll just remain in the past :0 Sorry to ramble

He used to be with a band called Vinegar Joe with Elkie Brooks, and quite the hippie type. He totally changed his appearance, wore suits, very clean cut image. He was supporting the Commodores on a UK tour, and I had quite a long conversation with him backstage at the after party. We were all amazed to find he had this broad Yorkshire accent, and he told me he was born in Batley...everyone thought he was American! We had a laugh about that.

@@regaltip8A Thank you for that tip; I've not heard Tzuke for decades. Simon is also great on Tears for Fears blisteringly fine tune 'Year of the Knife'. He's also killer on Jeff Beck's 'There & Back' album, veering from the deep groove of 'The Pump' or the ripping odd-time signatures of 'Space Boogie'. Simon also did three tracks on the Pretenders' 'Get Close' album: 'Tradition of Love', 'When I Change My Life' and 'Hymn to Her'. He is always such a dynamic addition to any musical setting.
