“Even now we don’t know where the name Labrador came from” How about the Place in Canada named LABRADOR right next to Newfoundland, you have to be kidding me
they were known as the st. johns dog before they were called labradors . i have had 2 black labks 1 was an american the other was a english lab . they were both smart as a whip.
Do not, do not, DO NOT bathe a lab once per week. That's horrible advice. You'll dry their skin out and make your dog extremely miserable. Brush daily, bathe a couple of times per year if needed. They are not high maintenance for grooming.
Have a 3 year old English lab, Belle. Smart, great companion and athlete. Loves to retrieve, swim and walk. Fun to have with us old people. Walks 3-4 miles a day. Can’t imagine life without her..
We have an chocolate English Lab and he is build like a tank.Everything is big his head ,neck , paws ,chest even his height. :) Best dogs in the world.
I have a 🇺🇸chocolate lab he is big tall dark and handsome and he smart ! He gets along with everybody chickens other dogs but he’s very good at bullfrog hunting
@@sohomchakraborty1451 calm down jeez. Please don’t say that english labs are sleepy! And then YOU call his lab lazy, that could break feelings you know. What if he told that your lab is ugly, how would you feel? The same as what you made him feel! If you are like that don’t consider a dog lover yourself.
Bathing them once a week is a little excessive. They do shed and need brushed but that also allows them to stay relatively clean. The best thing you can have as a lab owner is a kiddie pool and a swiffer lol
My 3 yr old Black American Lab Hurley is by far my best friend outside of my wife. I love this dog and she reciprocates that same love. She'll nap with me with her head on mine or just wanting to be close to me at all times. Super outgoing, but loves to cuddle and I'm a 51yr married man with 2 grown kids. This dog is like my spoiled grandchild!
Remember that it is all a "tendency" between the English and the American labs. Temperament and ability is not written in stone. There's also a difference between English show labs and English field labs. That big blocky head can also be attached to a muscular athletic body. I know American Labs who are is mello as the stereotypical English lab and I know English Labs that will go all day long and be annoyed when you stop. Individual lines that they come from and training can make a huge difference in any dog.
We have a jet black English Female. Absolutely the best dog ever. Very attentive, loves kids, protective but not aggressive, barks only once to alert me and when she wants me to throw the ball....which is a complete obsession. Bella, you have my heart!❤
I've had five chocolate labs and one black lab. I couldn't really say if they were English or American, although I'm in America and my dogs were all born in this country. Some were stocky, some lankier. I haven't really seen much difference in ability or intelligence in any of them. They are all people lovers and get along with most other dogs as well. My first chocolate and the black that was in my family when I was a kid were born to hunt, but they were also great pets. The black used to jump from the boat and swim to the river shore and retrieve them when we shot squirrels out of the trees going down the river. She also won ribbons in many field trials. My first chocolate was only about 9 months old and never heard a gun go off or been in water deep enough to swim when I took her dove hunting. She sat by my side just waiting until a dove flew over and I dropped it about 30 yards out into the lake. When I looked down, she was already swimming her way out to the dove and brought it back and dropped it at my feet. No training, no previous experience. You can't ask for more than that.
This one of the best videos I've seen on the difference. I've had two Yellow English Labs, Buddy Nr's 1 and 2. Both were happy with a daily walks and a Frisbee session. My current best friend is Buddy Nr 3, a male Black American Lab who'll be one year old in 3 days. I did extensive research on breed type differences so I knew what I was getting into. What a bundle of energy! It takes at least 4 walks and two 30 minute Frisbee sessions a day to keep him happy. One big plus is my old Frisbee skills are returning. His overall temperament is the same as an English Lab, intelligent, but stubborn at times. Training requires a firm hand and voice. He is as beautiful as his parents, both Black field trial Champs with full genetic testing, slim, sleek and muscular. Happy New Year Fair winds and following seas to all.
The one I have now will not chase a ball, he ignores it and just loves to sniff and follow the scent so much so he even misses rabbits in front of him!😄 someone told me he is just getting his emails!
Don't bath them that often, it will strip the essential books out of their coat and stop it from working properly when they're swimming. Just give them a brush.
Fralanasko your right. They also won’t get that doggie smell. Our lab was always getting in dirt, mud and water. We just let it dry and brush it out and was just like new again.
Absolutely agree with you. We lost one of our Labs last March, and I can definitely say that in 13 years she only ever had two "baths", both of the "hosing down to get rid of the mud" kind. Missing the old girl hugely, but her grandchildren are doing just fine!
I have a black lab and he doesn’t need to go outside that often because he takes naps all day as me and my mom are working but gets fussy when he doesn’t get attention from my mom right then. Is that normal?
I had a buddy with an English lab and he hunted geese on the Eastern shore ! His name was Hoss and he was a monster a 100 pounder strong as a bull ! His play toy was a 4 foot log that he could flip and grab in his mouth and balance and run around the yard with ! My American males were 75 pounds and looked like kids beside him ! Hoss wasn't fat just big !

The name comes from the Province of Newfoundland/Labrador in Canada. Same as Rottweilers & German Shepherds there’s Show lines & working lines. Same dogs, just bred for different purposes.

I recently adopted a 1 and half year old yellow American lab. She has a ton of energy but is super smart and is just as cuddly and chill as any English lab I’ve seen. She’s def leaner then the English lab but she’s also still a baby. She runs circles around the English labs at the dog park! They both are great dogs!
There is a lot of misinformation on this subject, and this video doesn’t help. Those really heavy looking dogs are show line English labs, not Field Bred English Labs. Both the American and English Field Bred dogs are excellent hunting dogs, especially if they come from hunting/trial parents. There is no such thing as american/english labradors... There is only field/hunting/working and show/bench line of dogs. Both of which are bred in the us and uk.
