    This Park sign describes "the Snake"
    "You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
    To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have (----) on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "
    Thanks for watching!

      @@ottogofast3882 lol you dont "trail brake" with the rear brake. Trail brake is easing off the front brake lever while lean angle is increased.

      @@JosiasRivera actually you can trail brake with the front and rear. Most people prefer not to because it over taxes your rear contact patch. You definitely shouldn't try to apply rear brake in this scenario because the rear tire has already lost traction.

    the point of hanging off the bike is to take corners with the bike more upright.

    • @sergiooliveira1127
      @sergiooliveira1127 4 года назад +22

      Different riding styles... there is no "perfect" riding position. With slick tires, that position he took would be no problem at all, MOTO GP riders do it all the time to find limits and be faster and faster. The Ducati rider is obviously more conservative and cautious... Unfortunately this dude lost the read and crashed, just like many many professional riders. Props to him for having the balls to lean that much.

      @paulcompme856 3 года назад +9

      Not really. He actually had a very bad body position. He was completely off the bike - his butt should be over the seat the keep the weight on back tire. Because his butt was off the seat completely in a attempt to drag a knee his back tire had no weight on it and spun - sliding out - and then the bike bucks or kicks and throws you off. You have got to stay on the bike/seat and lean the bike - not the body to achieve good body position. He was in the perfect position to be bucked off the bike.

      +Raja Ram Mummadavarapu For one, he was leaning the bike to much so it scraped and picked up the rear tire. If the rider leaned off the bike more he could have kept the bike more straight up. Also by over correcting with the steering, when it regained traction that's what bucked him off. In these cases sometimes it's best to add some throttle. Not chop it.

    i think he gave too much throttle on corner exit then chopped it once his rear started sliding which made it bite in mid slide and high side occurred. correct me if i'm wrong but should he have maintained the throttle instead of chopping it to have a controlled slide? what is the solution to this?

    Great filming! Never tried riding like this. After watching your videos, I watched video of the local track record holder setting the lap record. It may have been camera position, but I did not see any lean angles approaching those some of the people in your video are attempting. Of course there are no tight hairpins on the local road course. Touching a knee down while not hanging off the bike seems extreme to me.

    Question: when the rear wheel lost traction, would it have helped to open throttle, to keep it spinning, keepping it from gripping the road. This way it would have been a harmless lowside. No?

    • @targetoz5470

      Yes, body position good, throttle at lean no good.

    • @shojivic
      @shojivic 8 лет назад

      No, it's the Dunlop Q3 tire. Currently Dunlop's most aggressive street tire with the capability to run track day demands. Relatively quick warm up time with a relatively broad operating temperature. The problem was excessive hang-off body position that unweighted the rear, too easily allowing minor throttle application to overcome traction. Stop the vid midway thru his turn, when the front is directly facing the camera. You'll see his bike leaned beyond/lower than parallel to body axis, which reduced his contact patch. Working too hard to look like a star.
