Your local food bank or charity thift store often need bags. Re ADHD, as a neurotypical I think it is important to remember that everyone forgets to complete tasks (stuff comes up). I watch Aspergers from the Inside and often in the comments people seem to think that certain social difficulties are particular to being on the autism spectrum and I want to express that some difficulties are things that everyone has in some degree or other. But knowing where one is likely to lose track of things can help in planning to circle back to finish things.

Since you have extra totes, how about starting a tote for Christmas crafts, Halloween crafts, etc. That way you can pull out the tote a month or two ahead of the holiday to work on.

You need a big trashcan downstairs so tossy tossy can't ever be forgotten downstairs when you get busy. Maybe even a big recycling trashcan.

Ms Heart I totally agree that your idea of giving yourself grace is a great way to ensure you continue to make progress with your projects and tasks. I just want to say well done for getting back into the basement right at the start of January after all your hard work and volunteering in December. I would also like to suggest that as well as being Clutter Free in 2023, you could also try to focus on finishing decluttering tasks. So, just like last year when you had the motto “Don’t put it down - put it away”, this year your motto could be something like “Don’t let trash pile - recycle with style”. This may help you avoid your ADHD mind wandering a little at the end of each declutter session.

If the family member ends up *not* taking the decorations....straight off to Goodwill with them! It's too easy letting stuff pile up again!
I have been decluttering like crazy! I began with "23 items OUT for 2023!" and I've just kept going! I'm amazed at how much stuff sneaks into the house and accumulates! I was also able to let go of a bridal shower gift that I received in 1981! Yuppers! I've held on to it all this time! It's a cute platter with cats and mice on it. I've used it a handful of times throughout the last 42 years (GULP!) But I haven't pulled it out of my hutch in the last 5 years? 10 years? I honestly can't remember! So...out it went!
Hey! At least I'm not decluttering my husband lol!

You have done so much good work and you can give yourself grace because the previous declutters have created places where things can go. Nothing has to be left in one spot indefinitely any more--there are now areas to redirect items to, when you are ready to do so.

Nice work! I worked on paper clutter from when my girls were really little. Still have 3 gallon ziplock bags left out of the big bin of art papers and school memories. It’s been a rough day. And it turns out I now own 25 empty white binders which I am telling myself I can let go and not worry about maybe needing one. 😅

I would recommend putting those candy cane wreath forms with your other craft things instead, though- that way they don't get forgotten until it's time to get out Christmas decorations again. I was proud to not buy any wrap etc either this year! I fought the urge to stockpile. I think I still have enough for next year and I’m debating using the random fabrics I have to make reusable bags. I’ve done this before for a huge birthday party and actually years later received a bag I had made back so it had circulated for more than 5 years!

My mom used to say "Do it while you're thinking about it". I try to do that action, but once in a while get sidetracked. Example if you have the box with trash and recyclables, stop and take care of it. If you declutter art supplies, check out an assisted living or nursing facility, they do art with the residents and financial resources are slim. You would be doing a favor for them.

My struggle is not the clutters, its to clean, and most off all keeping the house clean and tidy !!
´cause I have a hubby who work two jobs to support financialy the wole family, a son of nine and a little tornado (tdah) of five. I work a part time job ( 11.45-20.15 tree days per week). 18 months ago I was pretty much on wheelchair. I recently finish my rehabilitation therapy and very proud of it !
But the state of my house didn’t seen any improvment and I feel like I mess it up ! It’s a big house with 4 rooms, a play room, two bathrooms, and two officies since we need each one. Whe also have a storage basement and something I wish I could name a yard.
I ´m just too overwhelmed and never see the results of my efforts on it. So my baby steps aren’t working because two days later its like I didn’t do anything !!

I understand totally about things, that most people would consider trash, having value. I have some boxes broken down (and stored neatly) that I plan on using for craft items. Either for book covers or miniature projects. I'm not saying that I don't have items that need to be pitched. I have a lot that I have to take to the recycling center and a box for donations. I just have to get it in the car and take them where they need to go. I've got to get rid of the stuff so I have room to do more decluttering. I live in a small place that desperately needs decluttering.
