- Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, is a late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists. It was hosted by Jools Holland and David Sanborn, and featured Marcus Miller as musical director. Guests included acts such as Sonny Rollins, Shinehead, Sister Carol, Sonic Youth, Joe Sample, Slim Gaillard, Pere Ubu, Pharoah Sanders, and many others. In addition, vintage clips of jazz legends like Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, and Billie Holiday were also featured. The show also featured a house band of Omar Hakim (drums), Marcus Miller (bass), Philippe Saisse (keys), David Sanborn (sax), Hiram Bullock (guitar), and Jools Holland (piano). The show often allowed its guests ample time to explain the origins of their sound, meaning of songs, etc. It also provided a national audience for lesser known acts (like Arto Lindsay's band The Ambitious Lovers). Hal Willner was the music coordinator, responsible for the interesting musical mix-and-matching that took place on the show.

the dixie humming birds tore it up as well
Loved this show so much. Especially the first season.
Take Six feels like the Golden Gate Quartet meets the Hi Lo's. They're great. This whole show is fabulous.
Those hummingbirds were bad man they could sing
This show is a total classic. Glad I found it. Awesome each group.

I'm here for Take 6
I saw this when the show originally aired and had not seen it again until now. I saw Take 6 when they first got hot in the late 80s (and other times), and it was indeed a privilege each and every time. Thanks a bunch for the flashback!
I saw the Dixie Hummingbirds in person. It was a privilege to witness pure God gifted singers
@@shermanroyal2707 Absolutely. Which line up did you see?
My mother woke up when she heard Jools announced Shirley Caesar. She crept to my room to watch Shirley Caesar perform. My mother was a die hard Shirley Caesar fan. At the break my mother want back to sleep in a good mood. I assured her that the TV will be off by 1:05am. It was great getting our music fix before Monday morning. 😌😌😏😏

I like it!
Even Jools couldn't ruin this one, but he tries!
Ha la là y a pas mieux !!!
The best vitamin you need!
super!
I love a church songs
Every kind of popular music in America began in black churches. Even what Sanborn plays began in church. I say this because Sanborn mentions rnb, soul etc but not rock. I find this to be some problem. Rock began the same way rnb did from the same place. Black churches
Also Take six are something from the right hand of Jehovah. How they sing like that...I do not know.
What is the show intro..?
25:18
Where's Hiram?
WHY!! DOES JOOLS REMIND ME!! OF RENFIELD!! FROM THE ORIGINAL DRACULA!!! WITH BELA LUGOSI!!!! LOL!!!
