I had the pleasure of meeting these fine gentlemen . I grew up in Philadelphia and had no idea that Mr.Tucker lived about six blocks from the house I grew up in until I went to his home. These guys are #1 in my quartet book. They're all gone but not forgotten . Howard's guitar playing has been a real influence on playing the guitar.

One of the greatest groups - of any genre - ever. Not many views on here. Young people need to learn their history.

They were one of my father's favorite group. You just don't see harmonizing like that anymore...

I didn't know them as I grew up but found them about 10 years ago while exploring music evolution and once I heard them, could see right away what an incredible influence they were on the music of their times, especially R&B and Soul. I loved James Walker's deep tone (tenor/bass?) voice, so powerful and beautifully contrasted Ira's incredible leads.

These men were my idols! I learned to sing listening to these incredible groups. They wreaked of class and style. They looked like a million bucks! They gave me something to strive for. Just incredible. They were national treasures. I cant even imagine the terrible things these men had to endure as Black Americans. Racism has robbed us from so much. We’ll never know what we could have had collectively because of the sin of racism.

Howard Carroll. My friend. My teacher. My mentor. The greatest guitar player of the 20th century. Brother Howard had black man hands bigger than my car. I made him laugh so much. Luckily, Howard's grandson showed. Howard himself was on his deathbed. Five years on a deathbed. Every one of those days with a massive smile on his face.
Here is my lesson for every musician on the planet. There is no theory. No scales. Only heart. Only love. Does not matter what notes you play as long as they mean something and people do not run away screaming. Brother Howard taught me that.
