These men are such singing giants. They were so sharp and had such class. To stand flat footed and sing the roof off the place. You can really learn to sing listening to these men. Truly some of the best.
@@dreds71 On Paul Simon’s 1973 album “There Goes Rhymin’ Simon” it was the Dixie Hummingbirds. They also sang backup on the song “Tenderness.” I listened to that album so much back in the day that I wore down the grooves! It got me through a tough year when I was a teen. You may be thinking of a later version performed by The Blind Boys of Alabama. I know they did A cover of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”Anyway, just wanted to set the record straight.
Apologies. After looking at the liner notes of my vinyl, The Dixie Hummingbirds did sing back up on that. I also have their own release of the song in 1973 "We Love You Like a Rock". I was confusing a performance The Blind Boys of Alabama did of a song called "Rock Me".
I grew up listening to these gentlemen, thanks to my Mom. This was the gospel music that made you feel the Spirit. It's too bad that the music industry doesn't appreciate talent like this anymore.
Growing up in the 70’s my grandfather and his brothers would be sitting around singing these songs and talking to the records. Some of my best memories.
Beautiful. For folks looking for the studio versions of some of this stuff, they released the first tune in the early 60s as "Bedside of A Neighbor" and the third one as "Our Prayer for Peace." Middle tune is new to me.
Very near is the return of Jesus Christ the only Savior And this is eternal life: that they may know the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3 So those who gladly received his word were baptized; and on that day nearly three thousand souls were added. Acts 2:41

I remember as a youngster my daddy would play them and other gospel greats. Fond memories indeed
Smooth like butter.
"Let us all live in peace".So much wisdom in that song. What happened on 22 Nov. Of 1963 still reverberates Today.
The title of the song is really, Our Prayer For Peace. The year they did the film was (1964)
@@byronwashington3759 Much wisdom in that song. You can feel how fresh the trauma still was in 64. Thanks for your information 👍
@jackpalance9509 such a song I agree!!
Glory to his name🙏🏿
My introduction to the sublime voices of The Dixie Hummingbirds was back in 1973 on Paul Simon’s “Love Me Like A Rock.” Thank you, Mr. Simon!
Sorry man, but that was The Blind Boys of Alabama
