  • A true fan favourite, the Gibson LP Traditional was the perfect choice for guitarists who wanted it old school. But it was continued to make way for the new LP Standards in 2020. Are the new generation of 50s specs LP better than their mid-2000s predecessor? Let’s find out.

I have two: the first one I bought is a 2014, and that was before the 120 marker on the 12th fret. When they released the 12 fret logo version: well, you know the rest. I love both of them. ❤️❤️

Dude that 2014 hi gain on the bridge sounds amazing. Better than the 2022. Both sound awesome and look beautiful. 😊

I have the exact same traditional featured in that video. I think we even have the same colour. It's great but I'm interested in the goldtop p90. My trad is also 9lbs

I have an epi traditional gold top. It is lighter than my other LP's without sacrificing tone. Also comes with the coil split feature. I love it. I have demod it with a cover of November rain and No more tears here on my channel😅

Hi Mike. I recently bought a 2011 Wine Red Traditional. It was in mint condition and looked as if it had never been played. It is my first Les Paul having graduated from an Epiphone and I love it. Thanks for the vid.

Have a 2014 120th anniv.. Traditional. A 2013 Studio 60's slim w/ circuit board (which I love because it allowed me to install a Jimmy Page wired circuit board Plug and Play) I actually like the sound of the JP board over the Gib. one when playing straight lp sounds. (maybe pot tolerances... I don't know) An '02 Studio w/ 50's neck (something special about that gtr) And a '15 Trad Pro III 60's slim 57 classic. Anyway..... I don't seem to really bother about the different neck profile's, and yes the 2014 is more 50's than 50's and I think that contributes to that "something". I've demo'd a '59 Custom Shop (too heavily "aged" for me) and a new Standard 50's (couldn't really get along w/ the Burstbuckers).. I guess that 2014 is as close as I'm going to get to a '59 and I'm thrilled to have it. (I really do like the limited '59 tribute pickup's) and I'm not going to shell out for an R8, R9 or Custom Shop.... I love that the different LP's have their own personalities, feel and sound. Can't say that for my Prs's. ( Great gtr's, consistent as hell, not over loaded w/ mojo.) and I will say that the '14 Traditional seems to live up to the "Sound and Feel" as advertised.

I had a 2013 Traditional, Hand Wired, not a board, non weight relief and loved it, a 2012 Premium Plus at 7.6lbs was a Guitar I never sold have let go and New 2020 Slash Goldtop makes it feel like its all going to be just fine, Slash Goldtop against Yours would be a good comparison. My Victoria has to be weighed but feels under 8.5lbs and has10/20/20 as its build date, prior to Dec 2nd announcement and release of GoldTop Slash Victoria's, my birthday is 8th of Oct So this will be a Hard Guitar to pry from my hands

@@loudmikedxb My Luthier has taken an affection to my Slash Victoria, it appears to be Exceptional Instrument, the weight, the Feel, the neck to it wanting to hit Harmonics anywhere on the board and a sustain that lasts for Days

@@homegrownson very cool! The thing with Gibsons is that not all guitars are the same, even if the same model. If it feels right and sounds right, you found a good one. Had the same experience with one of my Standards.

I have a 2015 Traditional with the same 59 Tribute pickups, pots and cap as the 14 has a thinner but wider neck titanium bridge and nut.The newer Traditionals don't come close.

I had a 2009 Traditional, solid body, big neck and57 Classic pickups. Just got it to compare to my 2013 Standard with weight relief, printed circuit board and coil taps with Burstbucker pickups. Both were good, not bad, just different. I actually sold the Trad because the neck was too big but it inspired me to gut my Standard and put in classic hard wired pots to ditch all the circuit board. BIG difference now. Your Gold top sounds fuller and with more bass over your friends guitar with the dirty tone.

This is a great video, I have recently been wanting a Gibo Les Paul and searching reverb the price of the trads is pretty good so I wanted to know if there are any big differences between the trad and Current Standard, not much if anything in it if you ask me. Cheers.

I have a 2019 les paul 50's standard gold top 10 pounder with burstbucker 1 and two great sounding guitar..
Depending on how you set your pickup hieght can make the difference.. ,I also have a traditional 50's 2014 with classic 57's ,sound the same to me because I set my pickups to my liking so it is hard to compare...
But I will say the new one are a step up in quality or should I say consistency. Gibson has better QC now and taking more pride in what's goes out the door .
You don't find many bad ones nowdays..
Nothing is perfect but I remember I tried out about 5 traditional models most had flaws cosmetic such as binding and blemishes that should have never left the factory that way.. but not anymore ,I think the new ones post 2019 are great ,finding one under 9 pounds is not easy .
I think no weight reduction and 8.5 to 9 is ideal ,they are out there just have to look little more..
Hard to beat a Standard ....and Gibson should keep it that way.. no need for improvement. It will always sell..

True to some extent. When you play less gain-y music that lets the guitar breathe a bit, you can hear certain details that are down to the guitar itself. My humble opinion. Thanks for watching!

Very obvious to me that the Traditional has more definition in the mid range than the 50's style LP does. This is what a Gibson Les Paul 's suppose to do imo. For a more versatile, less outspoken crispy sound, there are enough other brands which offer that.
