Edit: It's short neck tenon and a two piece body (the line in the neck cavity is a router line, and it was tricky but I did find a seam line on the body)

I have 4 Les Pauls - 1979 Deluxe Pro, 2010 Trad, 2012 Trad, and my 2015 Trad. My 2015 is the best of the bunch - and sounds killer! I replaced the nut, tuners, added pointer knob/50s top hat knobs and haven't looked back. Sack up if you dont like the original '50s solid body & neck!!!

Around when these were new you could contact Gibson and the would send you a titanium nut replacement free of charge. I’m not sure if it is still the case. The robo tuner is great for cover bands were you might need alternate tunings. It is much faster and you can manually tweak after most of the work is done. I got 2 of these. One a special for dirt cheap. And one tuner is more accurate than the other. The wide neck in general I don’t prefer but it is better for string separation and if you have big hand or thick fingers it is probably a great choice. You get used to the neck. It is like the opposite of playing a thin neck jazzmaster. It won’t stop you from being able to play.

Great guitars that are often overlooked by folks. I understand why, but honestly, it is pretty easy to adapt to that neck--for me, anyway. My 2015 SG Special if fantastic. I got the titanium nut from Gibson for free. I'm going to eventually replace the G-Force system with the Hipshot tuners, as they are light weight, and require no modification..

The build quality on these 2015 models was fantastic. I had this model, I believe, and the neck was super fat, in addition to being extra wide for that year. The combination of the fatness and the wideness made it actually enormous and uncomfortable. The robot tuners were an easy thing to fix if somebody wanted to do that, these guitars get a bad rap.

I bought a 2011 Trad just to compare to a 2013 Standard and wow what a beast! Thick neck, solid heavy body and stayed in tune. No circuit board, coil taps, weight relief, etc. The Standard is great too despite a few "refinements" I did like put proper hard wiring in to accept Duncan pickups. But the Trad roared without any changes. Just don't get why Gibson started doing "untraditional" things to the Trad as it defeats the purpose.

  • @pedrolourenco2707

Gibson used to sent a replacement titanium nut like the 2016 models had. This neck are way woodier than any custom shop... I had this guitar and had to sold it because the neck is monstrous, almost like a classic acoustic! the pickups were amazing!

I have a 2015 LP Standard 100 in transamber. It is simply the best Les Paul I have ever owned in terms of playability, sound and appearance. I know the 2015 models get a bad rap. But mine is a late year sprint run model so many of the undesireable specs were corrected.

  • @garycrant4511
    @garycrant4511 4 месяца назад +3

I hunted down a Ltd Ed 2015 LP Trad Sprint Run . Don't know how many got imported to the UK. It's effectively the missing link between the despised 2015s and hasty revised 2016s. Imho it keeps the best new features of the 2015s, while discarding the Robo Tuners and wider neck. I personally welcomed the adjustable nut as I grew up with zero frets on British/Euro made guitars.. Gibson addressed potential problems with brass nuts by quickly offering replacement titanium nuts free on application. I never liked the idea of nibs, so was happy they'd gone. As for the 'improved strength' case, I put a hole in it, by accidentally knocking it lightly against the corner of a table. My Sprint LP has poor quality control on neck binding finish, But I kept it as due to being Ltd Ed, there were no others available at the time for swapping. I also own a 2015 LP Jnr Double cut. I'm keeping the Robo tuners on it for now, but my concern is will Gibson maintain a stock of affordable replacement batteries ??? Btw, this also had quality control issues - requiring replacement toggle switch. But at least Gibson Customer Service resolved this efficiently.

Hi. Mine is a "hog top". Just came from shop for nut work, and came with Gibson Deluxe tuners. Plays and sounds great, I love it.
I think the thing is, the modern Standard got push-pulls and dip switch on PCB board; then this was supposed to be for purists, but the mod specs ruined it for them.
I took advantage of the haters' discount, and got them both- in "hog top". Had the Standard hand-wired, makes night and day difference in the tone features.
BTW, graphtech make a tuned Tusq pick- bright, medium, and dark. Nice grip features- DO NOT pick slide- the wound strings eat them up. Nice review, keep awn!! Ü ♫

  • @buck7477

I have the standard and I love it. Never broke a string, I love the brass nut and I love being able to adjust it. I did get rid of the tuning device I didn’t like it I put zero radius tuners on. Looking back I never understood why mine cost $3500 from Sweetwater. As soon as I bought I went on EBay and they were $700 cheaper. If you look now a standard Les Paul costs much less on sweetwater, why is that? Does anyone know why in 2016 Sweetwater was charging $3500 for a 2015 les Paul Standard? Seems I remember it being a triple flame maple or something but my sweetwater account just shows it to be a standard nothing about the maple top.

I tried a Junior from this era, I actually liked it a lot. Very different feeling neck to a real ‘55 Junior, but I liked the extra width and slightly flatter profile. Different, but cool. I really like the idea of the adjustable nut, and the titanium upgrade seemed like a great idea. The robotuners would get pulled quick, and the really bad Les Paul script is awful, but I could get past that.
If I’d had the scratch then I would have bought it. Wouldn’t say no to one now, for sure.

I got one of these as it was too cheap to turn down at 850 gbp (less than my 2 Lifeson Epiphones) and it’s fine - like the tuners, finish is really nice. Neck a bit on the fat side and wide but fine to play and I got it to be different - I don’t have the problem of falling off the edge I get on my other Les pauls which are 60s necks. The brass nut wore very fast and had to replace it with an after market graphtech which is fine. My only regret is not buying a standard at the same time as they were so cheap !

@@boechlerguitarsandrepair Yes Unfortunately Gibson only uses the long tenon and one piece bodies for their Custom shop
guitars. A good friend of mine worked for them before the new ownership took over but even the new company post 2019 is sticking with that same policy of short tenon and two piece bodies for the USA Production guitars. it is a cost/time saving thing for them i was told.
I will admit they do a amazing job of joining the two pieces of mahogany so much so spotting the seam joining the two pieces is sometimes almost impossible!

I've had one of the 2015 Gibson's and sold it mainly because of the neck. It's not that it's a baseball bat thick, it's because it's wide, and by that I mean it feels almost like a 7 string. I said it once and I'll say it again- shame, because they've had amazing colour choices that year.

They increased the nut width without widening the string spacing! Not a pro level instrument,in terms of playability. The brass nut wears out quickly. Gibson used to offer a free titanium replacement. Robot tuners are extremely difficult to turn manually. Buy a cheaper model with a normal neck.
