I went to Virginia Tech and used to go fishing and hiking all through SW Virginia. Once you get into some of these towns, it's like going back in time 60 years. They would 100% chase a black person out of town if they saw one. They would fly Confederate flags from the post office flagpoles. I put on a fake southern accent so I wouldn't get jumped at a gas station for being a northerner. It's honestly crazy how backwards some of those people are in that area. Last time I visited VT, there seemed to be a huge 60's style tentpole revival Christian movement going on, and you better believe "anti-woke" was used to describe it

There's multiple signs advertising the store as you're driving up up to 220, and there's another store before you reach it with very similar merchandise hanging outside. It seems the whole town has, even if unwillingly, become Trump Town.

In my experience, a lot of the "she only wanted me to listen to what she had to say and not what I had to say," can be code for "I let her talk a little bit, and she didn't agree with anything I had to say after." Some people are so convinced by that they are right that they equate disagreement with their stance as not listening. This can especially be true if the person that "didn't listen" presented a mundane truth somewhere in their talking that the one "not listened to" agreed with. The fact that they agreed with some mundane truth means that you should have to agree with one of their outlandish truths.

I lived in Boones Mill when I was little and it's absolutely horrendous. The education system is probably about what you expect, there's a sex offender ratio of 1 to 11, the town makes all their money through speed traps, and funnily enough right across the street from the church, there's a shop that sells confederate flags AND pride flags...
Not many people I went to school with are furthering their education either, which makes me sad. The entire place is one big stroad too, unsurprisingly.
