Beckett man, thank you. Just recently got the Strike 98 16x19. I had the 97 but it was just a little too unforgiving. I am in love with this stick. Still good on the one hand backhand and just feels amazing on serve. I'm in love with this, aiming to purchase another on Black Friday if Babolat has a sale.
so glad to hear u talking about spinweight! idk why no one ever mentions it, i feel like it’s a pretty underrated aspect of racquet specs that actually contribute a surprising amount to the way a racquet plays and feel thru the swing
I have one of these and love it. But, IMO the best stick babolat has ever made is the Pure Strike Tour V3. It's incredible. I love the V3 tour in stock form, but I have it modified a touch, with a leather grip and 1.5gs in the head 12 O'clock to give it a 340 SW and static weight of 355 strung with OG. Balance point 31.5, VS Touch in the main 58, Restring Sync in cross at 56. Never changing again 🎉
The review is very on point for my experience. Easily the easiest powerful control racquet I have ever used. Insane serve, awesome power but yet pinpoint accurate. Unfortunately all good things have a caveat. The end of the review matched my experience. I started getting bad wrist pain. The same pain I noticed from gen 3. I have tired basically all racquets under the sun and non if them gave me pain apart this line. I tired softer strings like hyper g soft. It was noticably better. But after a whole month of trying to adapt there was still pain so I had to give it up to go back to my ezone 98 which imo is a goat of racquets.
Fantastic review! I'm a high 3.5/low 4.0 player that prefers a swingweight around 320-325 (think Pure Aero 98 or PS 97 v14). Would you say getting a Pure Strike 98 on the lower end of the spec range in terms of swingweight would be a good option?
I suspect it'll feel a bit heavy compared to what you are used to. This one has a ton of head weight and I think you'll be hard pressed to find one under 325. Going for the new TFIGHT 300 might be a better play
Speed feels less direct and a lot more flexy, way less stable and powerful but more forgiving and spin is better. The Speed is more within my spec range so I think I'd play better with it than the Strike.
Its the same a swing weight, the further away from the handle you put the weight, the more spinweight (I measured and on the Strike 12 o'clock is still the furthest point from the handle)
Beckett I need your guidance as an extreme tour user!!! I've been trying this racket with head lynx 23 kg and I love the spin and control as well as the power when I want it but damn it is hurting my arm... I don't want to give up on this frame so: which strings do you recommend? I'm trying to play with soft poly fullbed since I'm not able to buy multifilament. Which racket do you think is similar in terms of control and spin? I really appreciate your job and all I my tennis gear knowledge I owe to you ❤
Thanks for watching! Are you just using regular Lynx? If so, maybe try Lynx Touch. If you are using Lynx Tour, which is pretty firm, try putting Lynx Touch in the crosses to soften it up.
@@TennCom I act like a fangirl everytime you answer! I use normal lynx since un my country (chile) is the only available I was thinking of yptp at 23kg. I have the opportunity of change my racket. The options are: yonex ezone 98 and head gravity pro. Which one could be similar in terms of control and spin without hurting my arm?
The Strike VS feels better, especially at low tensions and retains control at those tensions, but the stability the PS98 offers is so much higher. I think if you are facing big hitters who rob you of time and force you to redirect pace, the PS98 is better, but if you have enough time to generate your own power, the PSVS has some merit, though it would require a lot of customization to match the swingweight
@@TennCom Thanks! Appreciate it. I have been playing with the VS but bounce between it and the Blade 98. Different rackets for sure. I do miss the stability when playing with the VS and I miss the access to topspin when playing with the Blade. Love playing with both. Been playing with different string/lead tape setups with VS. I gotta demo the PS98 and also want to try the Yonex Percept.
I prefer the extra power and spin I can get out of the Strike. The ISO feels more direct and controlled, but the big deal breaker is honestly the grip shape.
Beckett, this is beautiful clickbait. You add substance to the video too. The Pure Strike 98 4th Gen. Is pretty awesome; I purposefully put it down though because I didn’t want to complicate my racquet decision life any further.
I've only tried it with RPM Rough and it played pretty well but wore out fast. I also might like something softer so I'd look at Toroline Wasabi if I strung it again.
@@lilmoois3309 thanks for the sub! Yes Wasabi is what I'd personally go with, I think it has the best control in the lineup which is what I prioritize. I also like KPro (wasabi mains) quite a bit if you want something a little more connected but less forgiving.
What would your recommend for a control Racket, that still has a good power and helps with spin? I don't have a ton of spin, but I found myself loving control rackets. Thoughts?
Hi Beckett - I just saw your review on the new RF 01 Pro. I'm really interested in your thoughts on this pure strike vs the RF01 (middleweight and pro). How do you look back at this video now that the RF01 is out? Thanks for your efforts
I personally far prefer the Pure Strike to the RF01, but I also think they are for completely different players. The RF01 is an all-court frame that swings very nicely with an eastern forehand grip and effective use of the backhand slice. The Strike works much better for modern baseline tennis, big spin and big power to safe targets. The RF demands precision, despite the power on-centre, the Strike demands physicality.
@@TennCom Thanks for the reply! I demoed both back to back these past two weeks. I ended up buying a pure strike. Something about how the frame seems to "recieve and release" the ball rather than an instantaneous rebound on the RF01 made me feel like I can send the ball to a target more effectively than I could with the RF01. I totally see what you mean about the physicality though, there is NO free lunch with the pure strike if you're late on preparation. I find it's almost impossible to miss long on the forehand if you finish your swing with the pure strike which makes it a lot of fun if you want to really go after a ball. Both rackets were equal weapons at the net IMO. Pure strike ftw on the serve as well (although both lay down a great second serve).
@@skimboards4life How do you find the maneuverability on your Pure Strike? I had bought it, loved the feel and the power, but found it really difficult to maneuver. It kinda felt like a sledgehammer. Ended up switching to the Pure Aero 98 which is so good to maneuver, but has a bad feel.
Are there many differences compared to 16 x 20 in performance wise? Its hard to choose between 16x19 to 16 x 20. By the way I am using 2021 gravity pro now.
The PA's patterns feels more consistent across the stringbed but launches a bit higher on average and the PS feels more controlled on the sweetspot and more launchy outside the sweetspot. So I do sort of notice the extra cross but its pretty subtle.
I tried one with a marginally lower spec and it was a pretty similar experience. Have not tried the 18x20 and not that interested tbh. I think you get enough control with the Strike and if you need 18x20 then there are better options for control.
@@TennCom thanks, I tried the previous 16x19 pure strike 98 but it often had a high launch, I couldn’t flatten the shot easily, is it easier to do with the new one?
Hi, you have a great channel! I’m around a 3.5 with a 1H backhand. I currently play with a 2019 aero and I do love it, but I feel like I get pushed around especially during volleys. My 1HBH feels a little clunky and a little bump in power on my forehand would be nice but not a must. I’m looking to try out a new racket and currently playing at 55 tension. Do you have any racket/string recommendations?
Thanks Min! Potentially a lame answer but I think the Pure Drive is the most obvious answer for your needs. Swings a little faster due to lower swingweight, but still has awesome power and stability, plus the string pattern should feel very familiar.
Thank you Beckett! I haven’t considered it actually! But I will add it to my demos to try out along with the Percept 100D and Pro Staff 97/X. Which Pure drive do you recommend, 98 or 100?
Try Yonex Vcore 98 or 100, I recently made a switch from your racket (Aero 2019) to Vcore 98, I also play one handed backhand and I really felt the difference in stability of my backhand shots. However I also like playing with spin which is why I settled on Vcore, it depends on your playstyle really. But if you are able to demo that - I recommend it.
Hey Beckett, I'm trying to get dialed in on a new 95sv. I know you've had a history with it and was wondering about string and tension recommendations and what customization you suggest for it. Thanks, loving the channel.
Thanks for watching! Yeah I still love that frame. I put a leather grip and some weight at 12 until you get up to 330SW. Mine currently has ReString Sync and it plays great but when I maining that frame I would use RPM Blast knock offs like Cyclone or this dead company Black Bear.
@TennCom what's RA and power level on sv? Is it open string spacing? Have you tried other 95s like prince or angell or new dunlop cx200 tour with stiffer layup and open pattern...looking for power 95 with higher launch angle...tnx n GREAT VID
what strings do you have in that strike? What are some other ones that are comfortable for a poly/in the strike? I just ordered volkl cyclone tour in red cause it matches (I have 3rd gen 16x19 by the way)
I'm using a blend of Toroline Wasabi in the mains and Toro Toro in the crosses and its very comfortable in this stick, would work great in the 3rd gen too.
I'd like to try one. The one I hit had syngut for some reason and I broke it almost immediately. Didn't seem particularly amazing but I'd like to have my mind changed.
I’m 5.0 singles player looking for a racquet with precision and spin, I hit with a lot of spin on my forehands but can also hit flat shots when needed, my backhand is the same. What racquet should I get? (I currently use Ezone 100, 2022 btw)
Reading this comment makes me realize I am not choosing the right racquets. 3.5 player here and been using Pro Staff 97 (not RF), then Gravity Tour, now TF40 305 18x20 and these are more demanding than yours and your levels above me!
The Strike could be a good option if you are ok with the swingweight, but if you want something in the similar realm to the EZONE 100 but with more control, I'd highly recommend considering the Pure Aero 98.
I switched to a PA98 and now my play style is almost exactly like Carlos. I have been watching the NCAA D1 streams and it appears that amongst good players that have to pony up for their own sticks it is a favorite.
Yo Beckett! Been playing for a while now, I’m a 5’7” all court agressive baseliner style of play (that’s the best way I can describe my playstyle). I love to plow balls, end points within 6 shots and jump and slide all over the court. I’m currently using a Wilson Ultra Team strung at 52 lbs and extra weight at the neck. looking for something to help me keep pace better and hit bigger and deeper shots. I wanna demo some stuff so yea. Any recommendations?
Hey everyone I am looking for a new racquet right now I was looking for something that would give me easy spin and control, i have been using the blade v8 18x20 strung with hyper g at 49 pounds but it hasn’t been working out well for me what are your recommendations?
V9 is a great racket. Just demoed. Less stiff than v8. Worth a look. Not for me but it was a good blend of power spin feel. I love prince phantom 100p because I tend to have elbow issues
The term of ‘power’ is being used subjectively and ambiguously. What does ‘power’ mean? Distance where the balls fly with same force? Or velocity with which the balls fly or heaviness the opponents feel. ???
Good question but I believe it's usually how easy it is to get access to power for a given weight of the racquet. The heaviest racquet isn't the one we say has the most power even if technically it should be. So it's usually the larger, thicker racquets that have more power but not necessarily the heavier ones, again based on industry lingo.
Hey Beckett. Love your channel. Since you loved the pure strike vs and you considered switching to it, when are you going to review the new pure strike 97 ?
Thanks for watching! I'm not going to review the 97. I hit it with Luca and its essentially the same racquet as the PSVS so not very interesting to me personally.
So I'm feeling your review vs the v1 Strike (98 16x19) is that it has more feel and forgiveness?? I have a 18x20 strike v2 that I like but haven't really gone back to the Strike line because the original I felt with a bit of 3 and 9 lead tape it was still fast but a bit more stable and better than all the newer versions.. should I check this version out? most of my racquets are around that sw spec of 330 but I usually prefer 325ish although most of my weighted or modded frames are 330's. It's good to see someone review the Strike and it seems like it could be back on the menu of options.
Why isn't it for you? Too heavy and difficult? I'm loving my Strike 100 16x20, and it was a close call between that and the 98. In the end I appreciated the somewhat more forgiving 100 and a little more power.
One other thing - it seems like the consensus of others is that the new Blade is the racquet of the year, and these two are competitors in the control 98 realm. You think this beats the Blade 98? Seems like it does everything the Blade does but with a little more power.
The Blade is one of my least favourite racquets in the class and is a completely different hitting experience to this Strike. The Strike did everything I wanted it to do and the Blade pretty much only let me hit flat which is a huge deal breaker.
@@TennComto be honest I never enjoyed much the blades, but the v9 98 16x19 can be the one I used if I switched from my radical mp. I didn’t feel any issue to put spin on it. Felt like a solid racquet. But I still prefer the auxetic feel of the radical.
Regarding the Babolat Pure Strike 98 3. gen/4.gen. Becket. You play better now than a 1-2 years ago. like went from 3.5 to 4.5 So You hit harder and change more pace and direction now. Therefore the Pure Strike 98 now suit your game much better than it used to. 3.gen feel is fine and balanced to the hard hitting agressive player with stiff strings at +52 tension. The structurel change/layup from 3.gen to 4.gen is very very subtle/little. Its most likely your level of play that has changed so you like it better. the 3.gen is muted in the sweetspot only. off center you can feel it enough. 3.gen dont need extra vibro-dampener. Both do not matter much as you cant get the 3.gen 98 16 x 20 anymore other than on scambay
@josaya247 ezone 98 does that to me but not aero98....seems different vibrations in rackets effects people differently...try soft poly or stiffer multi or syngut hybrids
The aero 98 feels like a stiff head heavy stick but I play my best with it as the racquet does all the work. I just have to move my feet and prep in time.
@tenniswithandy use light string...I use yellow poly tour pro 1.20mm...all good rackets have a little head heavy feeling that is rectified by using lighter poly or use multi or SG hybrids
I am sure I would get one with 320 swingweight if I bought 2-3 samples. Quality control is shit (might even be nonexistant) when it comes to swing weight for all the racquet companies. I think your sample might be an outlier on the higher end.

I’m currently using a Wilson Ultra Team strung at 52 lbs and extra weight at the neck. looking for something to help me keep pace better and hit bigger and deeper shots. I wanna demo some stuff so yea. Any recommendations?
EZONE 100 all the way.
@@TennCom which year release do you recommend? (Might be able to find an old one for cheaper than a new one)
Hey everyone I am looking for a new racquet right now I was looking for something that would give me easy spin and control, i have been using the blade v8 18x20 strung with hyper g at 49 pounds but it hasn’t been working out well for me what are your recommendations?
Had similar issue and just switched to the 16x19 version of the same racket, plays much better
I hit it with Luca and its essentially the same racquet as the PSVS so not very interesting to me personally.
what tennis shoes are you wearing?
the yellow ones
So I'm feeling your review vs the v1 Strike (98 16x19) is that it has more feel and forgiveness?? I have a 18x20 strike v2 that I like but haven't really gone back to the Strike line because the original I felt with a bit of 3 and 9 lead tape it was still fast but a bit more stable and better than all the newer versions.. should I check this version out? most of my racquets are around that sw spec of 330 but I usually prefer 325ish although most of my weighted or modded frames are 330's. It's good to see someone review the Strike and it seems like it could be back on the menu of options.
Tbh I never hit the Gen1 that was Black and red. It came out before I was able to test racquets so I can't speak on it much.
Why isn't it for you? Too heavy and difficult? I'm loving my Strike 100 16x20, and it was a close call between that and the 98. In the end I appreciated the somewhat more forgiving 100 and a little more power.
Too heavy
waoo, gameplays you show are really good !!
But I still prefer the auxetic feel of the radical.
strange. i thought your racket of choice was the solinco whiteout!!
still is!
You need to try the 100 16x20 !!!!
What's the best racquet?
Bolt 100
@@TennCom which string pattern
what about sollinco now ?
its still goated and in my bag, never considered switching to the new strike
Regarding the Babolat Pure Strike 98 3. gen/4.gen.
Becket. You play better now than a 1-2 years ago. like went from 3.5 to 4.5
So You hit harder and change more pace and direction now.
You can.only say irs best if you totally discount the cx200 tour 16 x19.
Aero 98 is still best ...cheat code of all cheat codes
PA98 is phenomenal. Unfortunately, my sensitive arm can't handle more than 1hr without 4days of suffering 😂
It's garbage
@tenniswithandy use light string...I use yellow poly tour pro 1.20mm...all good rackets have a little head heavy feeling that is rectified by using lighter poly or use multi or SG hybrids
But what is the best pickleball paddle of the year?
I prefer the old wooden ones. Even since the game just hasnt been the same with all these cheater paddles
The real best racquet is the one where One Punch Chungy and Seamon can finally beat Ali with... 😂
Blade Pro v9 is the best stick… and best looking 😂🎉😅
I am sure I would get one with 320 swingweight if I bought 2-3 samples. Quality control is shit (might even be nonexistant) when it comes to swing weight for all the racquet companies. I think your sample might be an outlier on the higher end.
I dont know why babolat stopped making these 98s in L1, which is disappointing. Their L2 is girthy af
Less options always suck but I can see how there would be very few players who like a 330+ SW but also need L1 grip
Perhaps probably😂😂😂
my best racket still head speed 2024
I'm sorry Beckett, but the time has come: you have to hit the weight room
First
excellent work, Usain

Nah speed 2024 is best
