What's so interesting about this is that there are parts where he almost feels stiff or the groove is slightly off, but if you listen to it with the music, that's all gone. It just all fits. Such a great player.
Yes and it's really fascinating. You hear that with Geddy Lee and Steve Harris isolated tracks as well. I think thats the beauty of it. Music is the magic of the sum of all parts. These noobs who've never written a song in their lives or played with a band have the audacity to criticize them for their 'sloppiness'. Those little mistakes are what gives them character and uniqueness when heard in the original context. It's what individual tracks are supposed to sound like. Kids these days are just spoilt with this overproduced perfectly quantized crap like periphery. All this lame forgettable garbage people call music.
I fail to see how you see stiffness in this, its groovy and bouncy, as is a lot of his stuff. Those double bass rhythms alone make it almost impossible to be "stiff".
a lot of the isolated tracks come from either Guitar Hero or Rock Band video games. It's how they program the game. Artists send iso'd tracks to the developers and the dev's program midi into the game so you can play along with it on the controllers.
