The placebo effect reminds me of a story from Untold Stories of the ER. A patient came in with abdominal pain, and the ER doc diagnosed it as some ailment that would need to be treated at the hospital. The patient believed that her ailment was caused by a curse and refused treatment until she could be sure that the curse was lifted; she believed that as long as the curse was in effect, any medical treatment would fail. The ER doc ultimately called in a witch doctor of the patient’s religion so that an curse-breaking ritual could be formed. After the ritual, the patient accepted medical treatment. The woman more than likely wasn’t cursed, but since she believed she was, the witch doctor became an important part of her treatment plan.
There’s another story about one of the world wars where they ran out of pain killers momentarily and they gave soldiers sugar pills not telling them it wasn’t painkillers and it actually had a placebo effect and made pain reduce
Wasn't she also physically pressuring her own abdomen to keep the demon she was supposedly cursed with under control, thus causing her symptoms in the first place?

@@oosa358You’re partially correct, the rate and timing of cell replication is precisely regulated. Proto-oncogenes, produce proteins that stimulate the cell to grow and divide, and Tumor suppressor genes at the same time inhibit cell division, they act as car breaks, they force the cell to slow down or stop the process of cell division. When both of these regulators break down, the cells start to replicate more frequently than normal, uncontrolled cell division can mess up DNA replication, the resulting mutations result in cancer cells.

I couldn't get too deep into the video. I can beleive that some people believe in healing crystals but definitely not 1 in 4. Most conservatives view it as hippy nonsense, the deeply religious view it as witch craft, and most people view it as a placebo effect at best and an outright scam at worst. I live in an area full of hippies and hipsters near a large liberal arts school, and there are crystal shops around and crystal healing places, but I'd be shocked if even 1 in 10 people here believe in it. I know 2 people who believe in it and 1 is genuinely and deeply mentally ill, and nearly everyone else thinks it's new age nonsense.
At first I mocked Reiki. Then I googled "average income of Reiki practitioner in the United States": it's over 100k per year. $58/hr. The accreditation / education process is approx 3 years. No previous college education. I think I found my new career! Why be a masseuse and risk injury to my hands when I can hover them over my patients for the same pay! Less insurance! Less schooling! I will be sure to change my name to a Eastern-sounding appropriation, so that my future patients don't find all my debunking statements on social media! I'm all in! Unless a true reiki master can sense my browser history then I am busted!
my freind was a reiki master, she became possessed and had to renounce it and then became a born again christian. It comes with a lot of anxiety and mental health issues which is reffered to as other peoples negative energy.
This happens if you're not taking care of yourself energetically, mentally and physically. The same thing applies for the medical practitioner who does not care for their bodies needs. Many doctors die of stress, are overworked, don't eat right and have mental health issues. Some have radiation exposure and other hazardous complications from the use of tools from their work. We don't hear about that or it's shut down in this same manner pretty quickly. Eg wearing masks for too long and it's breathing related issues. Everything has their uses and place, however application and a clear understanding of how to use them is very important. No matter which route you take there are side effects. (Internal scaring from fibroid operation, getting paralyzed after spin surgery, memory loss after being put to sleep with anesthesia ) the list goes on and on. .
As a physics student who has a deep background in condensed matter physics and materials science, I always wonder how people can think that these minerals have magical properties. All the properties of the matter depend on microstructure/macrostructure at a larger scale, and at a smaller scale, on quantum phenomenons. Crystals do have vibrations which are called "phonons" but they are just a quantum of vibration, there is no magic involved here.
Another small detail, statistical mechanics has also to be used, SM is of vital importance in all the areas of condensed matter physics peculiarly in soft matter physics (polymers are esentially entropy tanks), semiconductors...
This is actually interesting how split people are over these topics. I was a hardcore rational person who didn't "believe" alot of these things until I experienced themselves. To be fair though I think magic is not the best term to use as really anything not understood could be thrown under that umbrella.
Why not just study crystals yourself, instead of listing to some youtuber? I to was science mad at one stage, but one thing I have learnt, is most people are complete lying frauds. Conversations with crystal believers is hilarious. I tend to throw the conversation through a loop because as a Laser tech I absolutely do have crystals that were, and can be used for healing that work on vibrations and converting lower energy into higher energies and so on an so forth. The look on their face when I can show them light of one color entering a crystal and another exiting just dwarfs what their crystals do to a point of questioning the actual validity of theirs. What can I say, it helps to have props.
there are different methods of healing in this world. If you have somebody that truly believes that their chakras are out of alignment and they truly do believe that no amount of therapy and no amount of teaching them about science and biology or anything is going to change them. However if they go to a crystal healer and have their chakras "fixed" You will be surprised how much they change and it's all mental It's placebo effect but I have seen people that truly believe this act and behave and feel completely different after a healing even though it's all in their head. And in my opinion if you have somebody that has a mental issue and it's able to be corrected through a "Crystal healing" And it's done in a single session versus years in therapy. there might be something to it.

I’m not too big into crystals but I’ve been doing chakra meditation for awhile and it had a major impact on my physical and mental health. The thing is you’re allowing yourself to be more aware of yourself in every way. I don’t know or believe as of now about curing diseases. The things it helped me most with is my posture and the way I think, psychedelics also helped a lot with that 😂
That's just interoception with extra steps. I'm glad that it helped you, but the same effect can be achieved without focusing on mystical vital energy that doesn't exist. Many kinds of non-spiritualist meditation focus (implicitly or indirectly) on developing interoception of musculature and breathing (E.g., body-scan and breath focus, walking meditation, etc.), and from there interoception of thought and emotion. Even some more spiritual meditation, like vipassana, doesn't purport the existence of supernatural energies. Be wary of Affirming the Consequent and correlative reasoning.
That’s the power of the placebo effect. It can help you up to a certain point simply because you believe it will, not because there’s any special magic to it. It’s just psychology. But it can only go so far.
I think you get the right idea, things like meditation are purely mental health processes. There's even good argument that meditation isn't really a thing, it's just a more complex expression of placebo.

This is exactly why crystal healing is deemed as false a crystal will never ever ever magically take away a physical ailment just buy having said crystal the crystal healing to me is real but people need to lose the idea that they just instantly heal you.....the crystal acts as a mirror to show you what you need to be or what you dont need to be the only thing that will heal you is yourself🙏

So did the ER doc personally pay for this witch dr to come and administer their services?
Wasn't she also physically pressuring her own abdomen to keep the demon she was supposedly cursed with under control, thus causing her symptoms in the first place?
I remember that episode. She thought someone put the root on her and the lady witchdocter came and healed her, that episode was crazy as hell.

I think the fact our bodies can heal itself by thinking intently about feeling better is amazing
@Casual if you look at the data within www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/understanding/statistics you’ll see that cancer has been increasing over time and natural agriculture is not a thing anymore. So cancer in itself is a foreign build up and not part of the natural body and process.

Just hit the 30 second point. My guess is that the reason people believe in it is because when in a meditative state, the mind is able to think more and process what is bothering you and how to fix it
I couldn't get too deep into the video.
I to was science mad at one stage, but one thing I have learnt, is most people are complete lying frauds. there are different methods of healing in this world. If you have somebody that truly believes that their chakras are out of alignment and they truly do believe that no amount of therapy and no amount of teaching them about science and biology or anything is going to change them.
