My exact thought. I still can't believe she was 21 and made this shit. This is the greatest album ever. How the fuck can you be 21 and not just sing like that but be so lyrically mature?
_Stripped_ was beyond a career-defining album, it was a movement. She will be forever remembered for this release; she, to me, is her true debut album.
Dirrty was embraced by the UK and went to number 1, and was dismissed by the US for being too sexual. She was the only young pop star out of her contemporaries at the time speaking on feminist and gay issues with Can’t Hold Us Down and Beautiful before it was popular. Stripped was the first time she handpicked her collaborators from Dave Navarro on Fighter and Glen Ballard for The Voice Within. Her involvement in the production process is what she’s often praised for by these writers and why it takes her so long to release material :)
I found it kind of hypocritical the USA was saying she was a sl*t and such things. This is what you say in the land of the free? She was 21? She was no longer a teenager! But she came with Beautiful showing she can be Dirty, Beautiful and a true Fighter! Waiting for her second Spanish album now.
My fave Xtina album. She talked about so many important issues, and in 2002,when it wasn't cool to support LGBTQ+ rights, or be a feminist, or talk about society's double standards. I'll forever have the biggest amount of Respect for her for being brave enough.
Me too. Back to Basics is absolutely her best album as it's really her most creative. No one released music like that in 06 and that makes it so unique
singles like Fighter, Dirrty didn't perform as well as they should've because that new Christina image was polarazing and controversial in America back then. But with time theyve become some of her staple songs and everyone knows them.
It’s fascinating to me how things like that happen. By the time I got into Xtina it was late 2000’s and by then I feel like everyone knew Dirrty was ‘that’ bop. So it’s strange to know that it wasn’t well received at first.
Legendary. Stripped is the best and most honest album by Xtina, bible of pop /r&b. I'm OK is the story of her childhood, all the songs tell about her experiences. My favorite songs: Walk Away, The Voice Within, Get Mine, Get Yours. Honorable mention: Underappreciated & Loving Me 4 Me.
I love that Christina was supporting the LGBTQI+ community when it wasn't fashionable yet. (just like madonna and cher and so many did before her) She did it because she actually believed in the cause. The live version of Impossible (without Alicia Keys though) on the stripped tour is absolutely amazing. She takes it up a notch even and it always gives me chills when I hear it.
1) Can't Hold us Down was in response to the lewd comments made by Eminem in his song The Real Slim Shady and by Fred Durst as well. Instead of directly calling them out, she made the song about the double standards between men and women. 2) Beautiful was written by Linda Perry. Linda agreed to let Christina come to her home studio and record a scratch audition vocal. Christina brought a friend with her, and when she was about to start singing, she looked at her friend and said "don't look at me" that's when Linda knew that Christina was just as insecure as she was and the song had to be hers. Linda told her she could have the song as long as that one take scratch vocal was the final recording for the record as the song is about beauty in imperfection. She talks about it here: ruclips.net/video/9CbTIg1To5k/видео.html 3) Dirrty caused a huge controversy at the time (especially the music video). People said that it went too far and sent the wrong message to her young audience. It was actually very similar to what happened to Miley Cyrus when she released We Can't Stop in 2013 almost a decade later. Also there is an SNL parody sketch of Dirrty with Sarah Michelle Gellar that was popular at the time.
Beautiful made me cry when it came out. I was insecure and 13 yes old. That song saved my soul from depression 💕💕💜🖤🖤😍🖤 Knowing this background history makes it even more touching 💯💕
I love that you are worried about people being mad about you not liking Make Over. Most people don't like it, but I love it. Honestly, it's pretty long but it's a journey to listen to it. It's hard to just pick a song and not listen to the next one. I think she's more of an album singer than a single singer. Also, please watch her performance of "I'm Okay". It's so good! Imagine being a little gay boy in Ohio and seeing that Beautiful video on MTV for the first time. It helped so many people. Thanks, Christina. That boy wasn’t me,... I was working at Disney world with some people that knew here from Mickey Mouse club. But I felt more connected to the song nonetheless. Looking forward to your critique.
The voice within blends with the album perfectly I don’t agree that u said it was odd to be in it because it’s about believing in yourself and having strength it’s perfect 👌🏾
This is the definition of a masterpiece from a talented artist. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this album and it’s one of the best pop albums til this day 👏🏻👏🏻🔥🖤🔥🖤 #TeamXtina #Stripped
Wow really? That’s a pity, well I’m glad they went for ‘The Voice Within’ but still, should of released it, would of had an amazing video I’m sure lol.
I’m OK is her personal story about her father. She recorded the song in 1 take laying on the floor and at the beginning you can hear her actually crying and at one point her voice breaks because she was very emotional. You can tell how talented she is since this was 1 take and she nailed it!
I cannot imagine that this album will be turning twenty years in two years...And its still sounds so new... I was twenty when this album was released and i have witnessed how this album progressed and became part of a pop culture..it wasnt easy start for Christina but she was determined to change the game of her career and music.. People were very skeptical because they judged her according to her image and not on her music... but only Christina knows what she was doing... until the skeptics understood her... I am excited and cannot wait how to celebrate #20yearsofstripped
Probably her best vocals. I listened to this at my 15s @ Walmart and it marked me for good. Such rawness, such passion and self love... I live for the day I can achieve that for myself. Great videos, Sal! XO from Argentina
This was a great album all-around...but I still feel & believe that Back To Basics is her best one...i can't wait for you to react to that one...i WILL be judging..lol
The song is called Cruz because she is driving, reflecting on her life and how she's changing and moving on, and just cruising away in her car, captured by the view of what she sees while she's driving into a new chapter in her life
This is one of those albums that you can play on a long car drive and turn the volume up and sing to the top of your lung with. This album resonated with people struggling with learning how to love themselves and feeling empowered. I was a young man in the Us Navy at the time, and it helped me during my deployment.. It was also an album that was very very different than many other formulaic pop stars at the time, Pinks Misunderstood was similar, with some of the same producers. Many people wanted another debut pop-style album from her, and she gave us a very honest, personal harder, album with R&B, Latin, Rock and Big Ballad elements. I remember many of my peers were confused & didn't care for her new image & sound, they wanted more "Genie in a Bottle", and safer songs from her. 🤷🏽♂️ but the "outsider" in me loved this album and over the top singing.
@@kayl804 absolutely! well that was after Linda approached her at the bar in West Hollywood..Pink & Xtina were good friends up to that point when she (Pink) got jealous that Linda approached Christina.. then when Linda offered Beautiful to Christina, that was like a slap in the face to Pink at the time... Pink and Christina have since grown up, matured and made amends with one another.
@@funkyjaguilera yeah but then even before that there was that ruclips.net/video/6sWTiBg_9qA/видео.html But Ron Fair produced the vocals on that project. And he was also her A&R guy that basically launched her career. And would later go on to say "I signed her when she was a kid. She framed my whole career because I finally had a voice and an artist that was so magnificent so people could say, 'Oh, that’s what he does.' And we made five albums together, over 50 songs... on Saturday Night Live, when she did her first performance, I played the piano for her. She will always be my personal Elvis. She is the biggest star in the world to me, always will be. She also happens to be a musical genius of extraordinary proportion. She was always a kindred spirit and a giant. You know what? She’s the greatest of all time in my book and always will be. She’s really the one who defines who I am." Of course he'd give her the best singing part. And it's not like it's Christina's fault either. But I get how Pink would be mad :) And then the Linda thing on top of that. And I mean Linda was Pink's childhood idol that she felt a special connection to since she was a kid. She basically started Linda's career as a songwriter for other artists. And Christina just happens to work with her one time [at that point I mean of course], gets a career defining song out of it that she wouldn't give to her (Pink) and that was super personal to Linda and a life long friendship along with it. While she wouldn't even want to work again with Pink after Missundaztood ruclips.net/video/6sWTiBg_9qA/видео.html I'm a Christina fan first and foremost but even I really felt bad for her watching that. And again it's not like any of that was Christina's fault. She had a falling out with Linda ruclips.net/video/46AhwKyEcIM/видео.html And then I'm sure pretty much felt that things she felt she deserved were just handed to Christina yet again. In reality it's other people she had problems with and Christina just got caught in the crossfire. I kinda feel like the same thing happened to Christina in regards to Britney. She was fed up with press over the years always brining her up with the comparison thing in the interviews. While they'd never ask Britney those questions. And then after that Madonna performance press and MTV were again all over Britney with the kiss, Justin's reaction and all that not really giving Christina any credit. And then she said some things that were probably uncalled for. While it wasn't really Britney she had a problem with. I remember in an interview for some magazine after Stripped when asked about those tensions with Pink she said something along the lines of that she thought they were a bit much like the same person and when it's like that sometimes you clash. :) I'm really glad they matured and worked it out. They're both amazing strong women that need to support each other.
Make Over is definitely one of my favorites. But to be honest I even cant say that, this is the only pop album in the whole world that I love ENTIRE. Still waiting for someone to top this. STRIPPED IS LIFE. Christina Aguilera and no one else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just waiting to be Saturday for this reaction!...Sal u should do the LP reaction and then a live performance or video music reaction. Your reactions are super fun to watch 💚
I listened to the full album quite late too, maybe 2005? It did convert me into a Fighter afterwards. I go back and listen to this album whenever I'm feeling a little low on faith. She takes you to church here!
"Stripped " doesn't have a music cohesion for the simple reason that Christina is a very a versatile artist and singer. She always considered this as her "baby" since she put all the music genres that she like in one record. This album touches many people in some many different ways. Almost 20 years and this is still relevant. ♥️
This really made me remember my very first time listening to this masterpiece. I was 12 in 2002. I did not understand much about music or even English language... but even before knowing exactly what she was saying I felt a deep connection with some songs like Walk Away, Cruz or I’m OK. It really takes time to appreciate this kind of long albums. I believe it is more like a collection of songs than an album, I don’t find a coherent sequence or harmony between each song, I think about it more as a collection of songs where I can go and pick any song for any kind of mood, play it loud and feel happy... or sad if that is how I am feeling.
I've always loved Walk Away, i always felt this vibe of... sorrow, darkness, that has always fascinated me... After years and years I found myself in the exact situation she's singing about, so this song became just so damn relatable sadly...
I remember watching Christina record I’m okay which is the saddest song and the hardest song for her to do,she was laying on her back on the floor while she was recording it and was very emotional during it. It’s about her dad as you heard. It’s such a beautiful song...and one she has never sung again and one that she will never sing again.
@@SalRocha She recorded it while she was crying and laying on the floor... That´s why I love that song, it´s so personal... I recommend you to watch the xtina´s VH1 special
I’m Ok was one of those songs that really resonated with me as a young child and even to today. I was deeply appreciated when this song encapsulated her experiences and have the guts to share it with the world, I felt it was authentic and the most raw compared to other artists. This song is Stripped and I think the only song that was solely written by Christina herself so I have made respect her for that.
This album was incredible album, she have a groundbreaking album and was aged so well with the years. She have the creative control of this project and this album was the perfect way. ''I'm Ok'' was very personal, because it's talk about her traumatic childhood, grew with a violent father who after the separation in 1987, she didn't have any contacts with him since she 6 years old. She recording this song in one take only, because it's touch so much her emotions and how domestic violence and the violence of her father affect her so much her life. This song was pure honestly and intimate side of Christina. She also recording a another song about that, ''Oh Mother'' (Back to Basics), talk about the resilience of her mother to left her father when she was little and how her mother was strong.
The bible! I really enjoy your Xtina reactions 'cause you point out things that I haven't necessarily consciously noticed before and I appreciate that. Also you keep it fair and give credit when it's due. My thoughts on Stripped have shifted so many dozens/hundreds of times throughout the years I've listened to it and I have such a strong emotional connection to it, it's hard for me to listen to it "as if the first time". But you bring that in these reactions so again love it. One thing though about Christina's albums, is that it doesn't always make sense pair-up an intro and the subsequent song together at all. It depends on the context. Like I see F.U.S.S. --> On Our Way from Back to Basics are totally separate and about different topics. Back in the day, some fans talked about On Our Way being about Rachel, Christina's sister, but am not certain if it's accurate. When you're going to do Liberation though, I recommend combining Liberation + Searching For Maria + Maria together, they are part of the same continuum imo. Furthermore, I'd appreciate if you'd mention some of the album's critical success in your video, either before your reaction, or after it? I particularly recommend reading The New York Times review of Liberation, by Jon Pareles, absolutely brilliant.
This is her best album for sure! Maybe checking out the lyrics on screen why listening will help you understand it more easily? Get Mine Get Yours is not included in China version is because the lyrics is too sexual. Can’t wait to see your reaction to Dirrty video. Dirrty was number one in UK and many other countries!
I appreciate your honesty about the aspects that didn’t connect to you as much, and how you brought up the lack of campiness compared to Bionic. I love both albums and that was an amusing point I hadn’t thought of. Great video!
Primer amor (First love) interlude: “Let me tell you a story, of how a puerto rican man stole my heart. I have never loved that way, and maybe I'll never do it again. It’s the story of my first love. He was a nice guy, with big and deep brown eyes, a dancer, together we lost ourselves into the rhythm of love. This is how it started.”
Sorry you cant define me Sorry that i break the mole Sorry that i speak my mind Sorry dont do what i told Sorry if i cant fake it Sorry i come too real I WILL NEVER HIDE WHAT I REALLY FEEL NO WAY NO
This is my favorite album of all time and it’s a damn project all the song are linked, I love the transition from one track to the other and the fact that listening to this album is like watching a movie
This álbum Is so monumental,it helps to a entire generation to define themselves , in my case for example my female favoutite artists are mariah carey & Janet Jackson but "Stripped" is my favourite album of all time..
The impact of this album on me personally was so deep that I can't find the words to describe it. It basically got me through my college years. Also, there was so much backstory to the meaning behind "Can't Hold Us Down."
The reason why she fought for Dirrty to be the first single was because she wanted to switch her “pop princess” image and also define this whole Stripped era, her atitude and looks! Besides not being good in the charts Dirrty is still until today rembered and inspired the new generation of singers! Now and than her “chaps” is still trending and Miley and Kylie Jenner “recently” paid homage to This outfit!
Christina included a Spanish version of “Get Mine Get Yours” which translates to “Dame lo que yo te doy” for Latin America. OMG this has 15 tracks? She had more than enough material for two albums not just one. Songs like Impossible, Underappreciated , Get mine get yours, Cruz, Walk away could totally be singles for a second album. There’s much more than Beautiful, Fighter and Dirrty. Almost each song could be a single from this album.
Or he's lucky to be discovering it right now. Sometimes I want to go back to those days where you can get excited about masterpieces like this. I played this album on repeat for weeks and weeks and weeks, it made me so happy and excited. He get's to live this now :)
I think it’s called “Cruz” in reference to the kind of cruise you’d take in a car. In this case where Christina was going to start over. “As I am driving I’m captured by the view.” “The road becomes my muse”
Definitely her 4th album - lots of folk consider Mi Reflejo as her Latin versed debut , which it clearly is not. Her best songs were the classic songs Spanish classics. And let’s not forget her Classic Christmas Album 🍾
You should react to the music videos of this album/era. The iconic DIRRTY and Beautiful are a must. I'm really looking forward to your Back to Basics reaction. That one is by far her best album sonically and vocally in my opinion.
I kid you not, I literally had the same reaction as you to Keep On Singing My Song when I first when through this album. It took me 6 months to even give that song a second play. But then...I don't know what happened, I start noticing her voice, the message, the emotion, I don't know. Now I think it might be my favorite song from the album. So fucking good. I play it everyday.
The reason Fighter went to 20 in the US was because the charts then were based solely on radio airplay. It was rare for a pop song to get in the top 10 of the hot 100. It was considered too rock for pop radio and obviously too pop for rock radio hence the position but here in the UK bot even Britney had an era as big as stripped. It was simply a phenomenon here in the UK and is the 14th biggest selling album of all time in the UK.
No words can make anyone understand this album. You feel this. The time it was released, the need for it. The controversy. The Voice Within is the most perfect song. It fit perfectly on the album and the video is flawless. I’d listen again and just listen to her. Not for a “reaction”. It can break your heart.
Dirrty #48 Billboard but #1 for 2 weeks in the U.K and a Top 10 in almost ALL European countries and a #Top 3 here in Brazil... But the impact of the Dirrty vídeo was beyond...tv talked about...MTV censured..Grammy support had 5 mtv VMA nominations and++++ and Channel Vh1 Gave her the tittle of sexiest video of ALL time despite ALL the controversy about sex and her New Dirrty image being a 21 year old using her big status and fame to get down and Dirrty in 2002...she earned Also a Grammy nomination for Pop collaboration in 2003 heavy impact in pop culture...also NBC famous show SNL made a parody of Dirrty and +gossip and huge buzz transition of pure virgin Christina to Dirrty Wild Xtina 🔥
The beautiful music video is amazing if you havent seen it check it out. The making the album stripped on MTV was amazing as well cant find that anywhere surprisingly. Did I miss the song hurt?
This is they way she chooses to address her LPs: 1st. Christina Aguilera 2nd. Stripped 3rd. Back to Basics 4th. Bionic 5th. Lotus 6th. Liberation Others: Mi Reflejo My Kind of Christmas KGB: ADOH
Imagine being 21 years old and making this timeless masterpiece❤️
Holy shit, right? I can't imagine what it's like being a talent like this and harnessing it to such a degree.
She recorded this album when she wasn't even allowed to drink. That puts things into perspective!

The song is called Cruz because she is driving, reflecting on her life and how she's changing and moving on, and just cruising away in her car, captured by the view of what she sees while she's driving into a new chapter in her life
Beautiful!!!
Yeah she definitely drew some inspiration from Missundazstood. That's why she wanted to get Linda on bord for this
@@kayl804 absolutely! well that was after Linda approached her at the bar in West Hollywood..Pink & Xtina were good friends up to that point when she (Pink) got jealous that Linda approached Christina.. then when Linda offered Beautiful to Christina, that was like a slap in the face to Pink at the time... Pink and Christina have since grown up, matured and made amends with one another.
@@funkyjaguilera yeah but then even before that there was that
ruclips.net/video/6sWTiBg_9qA/видео.html
But Ron Fair produced the vocals on that project. But I get how Pink would be mad :)
And then the Linda thing on top of that.
While she wouldn't even want to work again with Pink after Missundaztood
ruclips.net/video/6sWTiBg_9qA/видео.html
I'm a Christina fan first and foremost but even I really felt bad for her watching that.
And again it's not like any of that was Christina's fault.
She had a falling out with Linda
ruclips.net/video/46AhwKyEcIM/видео.html
And then I'm sure pretty much felt that things she felt she deserved were just handed to Christina yet again.
I'm really glad they matured and worked it out. They're both amazing strong women that need to support each other.

"Stripped " doesn't have a music cohesion for the simple reason that Christina is a very a versatile artist and singer. She always considered this as her "baby" since she put all the music genres that she like in one record.
This album touches many people in some many different ways. Almost 20 years and this is still relevant. ♥️
Thank you so much for watching!

She's such a legend. Christina Aguilera LEGENDTINA
LEGEND
I remember watching Christina record I’m okay which is the saddest song and the hardest song for her to do,she was laying on her back on the floor while she was recording it and was very emotional during it. It’s about her dad as you heard. It’s such a beautiful song...and one she has never sung again and one that she will never sing again.
She sang it once live, and it was an amazing performance but it was obvious that it took a lot out of her. She's never gonna sing it again.
I really want her to sing it again omg😭

Liberation reaction christina aguilera
I was about 18 years old when this album was realeased, and its my favorite one. "I´m ok" made me cry when I listened to it for the first time.
Ugh such a sad song!

@@SalRocha done done 😘
Thank you so much for watching!
Still, her best album! Can you react to her LIBERATION album?
After Back to Basics and Burlesque

Thank you so much for watching!

Since it's been a few years now I would say that I enjoy Stripped more than Bionic. But I love them both!
Primer amor (First love) interlude:
“Let me tell you a story, of how a puerto rican man stole my heart. I have never loved that way, and maybe I'll never do it again. It’s the story of my first love. He was a nice guy, with big and deep brown eyes, a dancer, together we lost ourselves into the rhythm of love. This is how it started.”

Thank you for this info!
No words can make anyone understand this album. You feel this. The time it was released, the need for it. The controversy. The Voice Within is the most perfect song. It fit perfectly on the album and the video is flawless.
