This really is a rich, warm brown. I don't sketch, only write with fountain pens. I have several of the 150th inks from Diamine, guessing I will order this. Thanks! Also, love Blood Orange from this series.

One thing I've learned after fifty years of doing graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, and pen and ink is that very often a quick sketch is better than a slow finished drawing, at least where the art aspect is concerned. I don't buy pens from China, so I use the Oilot Metropolitan as my main pen and ink fountain pen. I keep eight inked up. Each pen is a different color, and I match the color of the pen with the color of the ink family. It just speeds things up when I'm sketching.
I actually prefer using dip pens for pen and ink art, but I love fountain pens, as well.
I know several artists who love a fude nib, but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. My dip pens will do anything, but for fountain pen art I guess I'll just have to do without a fude.
Anyway, very interesting video. You have more than your share of talent.

LOL, I was looking for that French “Oilot” fountain pen until it clicked… “Pilot” 😁

I’m going to use your strategy of inking up color matching pens. I’m doing black+five. Got 2 colors now. Any recommendations on reliable go to colors? Thank you sir.

Loved the ink color and especially watching you sketch and talk about your methods. Beautiful work. I paint with watercolor, and it never occurred to me that a non-waterproof ink could be used to such great effect...could have something to do with being a beginner! Love the inspiration Thank you!

Could you tell me the name of the pen you are using? I am interested in the bent nib. I have never drawn with one. Thank you.

I might have missed it if you mentioned it, but what sketchbook are you using for your sketches?

I actually use really cheap sketchbooks when I'm doing these inky sketches. This is just cheap cartridge paper. Specifically, it's a daler Downey graduate A5 sketchbook. They cost around £1.50 in the uk. The reason being that I go through 2-3 of them a month, so if I was using your standard sketchbook that's £10 a go it would be pricey!
Also using a cheaper sketchbook means I dont worry about experimenting with new stuff that might not work (because the sketchbook is so cheap) So yeah the paper doesnt matter that much as long as its cartridge, the main thing ie finding out what works for you. I go through a lot of these. When im doing higher standard works (3-4 hours) I will use watercolour paper which costs around 1.50 a sheet. I use better quality stuff for my client work :)
