I just went ahead and bought the Husqvarna trimmer head, for my Dewalt 60V trimmer. thanks for the video. Well done. Weslaco, TX
You need to get a “SCAG” mower. # 1
Mike, You are a super cool guy. Extremely informative!! I have the same model string trimmer! I went with the Dewalt auto feed. Not too bad. But the original reason I went to your channel was the outdoor Sonos install. Have had the speakers forever on a tv in my garage where the speakers blew. However I ran speaker wiring about 6 months ago to back patio where of course my pool is etc. So I just purchased the “AMP”. Arrives tomorrow. Woohoo!! Definitely subscribing and you have so many videos that are again so informative!!! Oh, I have the kit too. So originally I purchased the Dewalt string trimmer. Then I decided to get the entire kit. Its Amazing. Sold string trimmer. Kit has string trimmer, brush cutter, pole chain saw with extension, bush trimmer and blower. They all attach to battery motor body. Anyway, thanks Mike!! You are on cool cat!! I am a dog person but you get it. Lol
I tried it and it did a great job and it works on the 20v dewalt
Thanks for the instructions on the line installation! I inherited a DeWalt 920. I tried a half dozen YT explanations on the spool. It would never feed out and clogged up. I did change to the smaller H. 25? model then it stopped up the first time! I decided to try a blade but couldn't get the base off! It is working now though I'm sure the line is a mess. I just ordered a Dewalt blade and pole attachment that is supposed to fit this old thing. Probably safer also.
I did not know this, but when trimming, you can set the trimmer head on the grass and let it roll along, so you don't have to lift it. That t35 is perfect for it.
I just put a husky universal spool on my 20v and I’m so happy about it. Super easy takes 5min. Don’t wait just get rid of the auto spool thing if you go through a lot of line. It’s ok and works fine. But I’ve used the husky for years and am happy to say it works for the dewault is minimal time to change and they are bulletproof.
Husky head best I’ve ever used. Highly recommend.
My cutter head worked well for about 5 minutes then it kept throwing out all the line. I took it back to the shop and they replaced the cutter head with a heavier duty dewalt one. It seems to work well now but I’ll keep this video in mind if it does it again. Thank you
Probably my favorite part of this video is where you are driving your zero turn mower out of your shed and you have duct tape on the mower deck! Love it. It just proves with a little enginuity duct tape can fix anything!
The mulching kit (cap) was like 60 bucks for a piece of plastic !!!! Roll of gorilla duck tape is $10. Lol. Hahahaha.
Money well spent on a roll of Gorilla tape! I used it once to tape an ekg type of monitor to my chest. The people who put it on me said the adhesive would hold it for 2 weeks. It lasted 2 days. Imagine their expression when I went to turn it in and they had to remove it! I wish I had video'd their expression!
I put a stiffer spring in the head for the bump feed so it takes more force to release the line. Friggan thing is a killing machine. I'll put that trimmer against gas any day cause it shreds like you wouldn't believe
What spring did you add? Available on Amazon? Thanks!
For the speedfeed type head (echo, Oregon, dewalts factory head, once the string isn’t wrapped instead the head, it just lets it out (they’re supposed to do it), personally, I try to save them bc I have other heads I use tht I can use them on if need b.
Appreciate the vids. Considering this weed whacker myself. Seems like it's not flawless which is a bummer given the price point (imo). Probably will still end up buying it but will know what to expect.
appreciate you ! think you’ll be happy….
thanks for nice comment
Mike
The Echo Speed Feed 400 is another popular alternative.
the echo orange string is good stuff.
I have that Kershaw. Probably one of the best EDC knives I have carried even over the 3x more expensive benchmade
Nice! which one do you carry ? i carry the Dividend and feel naked if i don't have it in my pocket. been holding up well for the last few years BUT always wanted a benchmade !!!
@@FamilyDIYtv I have the Leek in olive. My step brother gave it to me for Christmas. He has been carrying one for a while in fact he lost 2 of them and was on his third. The funny part is while I was out visiting the family I found both of the ones he lost and graciously returned them with a bit of a prank.
@@JohnathanAulabaugh nice. My brother in laws got the leek as well as like every other kershaw knife ! Lol. We both carry the dividend tho. Glad you found them man ! It’s always cool finding a lost knife, it’s usually in the last place we put it … hahaha
One thing I’ve learned is always put back in pocket no matter what or else I’ll loose it. And use the clip.
That's rite real men are too smart to read the owners manual let alone follow with it says ! 😂😅 T35 head works great, im sticking with the DeWalt line for some reason
my problem with the dewalt head is that it bumps too easily, I live in the country and my yard is not perfect, I have roots etc to go around and a slight tap to the Dewalt head has it expelling more line. Does the t35 do better at this problem?
hmmm. i’d say it feeds easier…. so not sure that would help you. you can add more string to this one vs the stock dewalt. so … maybe it would help? but i don’t know.
@@FamilyDIYtv I went ahead and just pulled the trigger on the husky head. Works great, only regret is I didnt do it at day one. Of course the husky line is weak, but I have echo line to replace it when it is done.
It dont feed anytime the ground changes so I am happy.
I was almost tempted till I saw you loading the line... echo speed feed way better and faster😃 ... the reason why the dewalt stock head walks because The lettering stamped on the head face acts like a tyre grip ☹️
I hear ya. It works great, yes the loading isn’t the best but once you know how to do it, it’s fine.
I'm a speed feed person myself, I don't see me going to a disassemble type load ever again.
Great video. Just ordered the Husq T35 for my dewalt..
P.s. cringe!!! On leaning boxes up against your beautiful car 😆
You’re correct, I definitely shouldn’t have done that - ha !
Can you attach a brush cutting blade on that instead of the string trimmer? I don't want to get an entire brush cutter accessory attachment for just a one time thing...
I’m not sure. If you can find a universal brush cutting head it should work.
Can you put grease fittings in the holes for the maintenance of the shaft instead of squeezing in the lube? Would make lubing it a lot easier... not that what you did was hard. Just wondering. Great videos. I'm a new viewer to your channel and did subscribe. Thanks for the videos.
I’m sure you could buy an adapter! That a good idea. 👍
Thanks - Mike
What hedge trimmer would you recommend for this DeWalt power head
I don’t have a hedge trimmer so can’t give much advice there. Sure the dewalt one is fine.
I don't understand how soaking line does anything, it's plastic and as far as I know, a petroleum product so it's hydrophobic.
hey - you make a good point !
@@FamilyDIYtv thanks for the review of that trimmer, been looking at it. Not sure yet if I wanna get an electric one yet.
@@H.R.6688 it works great !
"Nylon is hygroscopic, meaning that it absorbs moisture right out of the air surrounding the material or directly from water if it is submersed. The higher the humidity, the faster it will absorb moisture. Immersing nylon in water will cause it to absorb moisture extremely fast."
@@H.R.6688 wetting the string doesn’t do anything except make it brittle ! Leave the string alone
Will the Husqvarna T35 head work with DeWalt 40V (DCST990) trimmer?
Yes, i made a video showing how to install to - check it out !
I use husquvana head after trying other heads including echo 400 use titanium line I soak line in water because lines get brittle before we by them I have the 20 v max 3 yrs
Doubt you answer this but I'm trying to decide between t35 and the echo 450 head. What is better about the t35 over the 400?
@@michaelvoorhees5978 i like the bump feature better on the husqvarna
@@wayne1362 why though? Don't have to bump it as hard? Thanks for the reply
@@michaelvoorhees5978 im just a homeowner but just with my experience i have 3 heads dewalt, echo 400 ,and husqvarna t35 had lots of trouble with 1st 2 then i got husqvarna was finally able to edge less problems i saw on RUclips if you soak your line in water much less problems because line gets brittle and when you buy it you don't know how old it is so i tried the water trick with the echo wih better results of jamming and breaking But still like the big blue bumper on husqvarna it'll last much longer
@@wayne1362 thanks yeah I saw that about soaking it. Also saw somebody say spray it with silicone spray and it'll help with not jamming up
What would you soak the Echo string in? Water?
Just water
Hi MIke, can you post the link for the Echo string
Here ya go ! amzn.to/3Oh3AoW
@@FamilyDIYtv Thank you so much sir!
I’m gonna try the echo 400. It loads like the dewalt and it’s much more heavy duty than the dewalt.
Sweet !
I don’t trust echo. I have their old 58v system and they quit making battery packs for it. I’ve had it since 2015 it’s powerful but overload cutout is too sensitive.
How does the echo 400 work? I prefer the quick feed, but I’m curious is there’s any downsides?
Thanks I'm buying this head. I find it disturbing that there is no loop for a harness. Pretty lame.
I just used a pipe clamp with some duct tape underneath. Simple. Cheap. But yeah, the trimmer is fairly heavy so both a clip and a harness would have been nice for longer sessions. I do summer weed whacking of about an acre of thick tall grass/weeds and a harness is mandatory. I also use a velcro strap to hold down the trigger - hand gets tired otherwise.
Do you have the trimmer set on Hi from all of your test?
ummm i have to check. i don't' remember, i bet it was on high ... i don't mess with that setting to often. at one point i'd set to low when trimming around metal fence and it helped keep the trimmer from walking around...
@@FamilyDIYtv if you don't mind checking it please 🙏 looks like it has decent power tho.
just checked - it’s was set to high ! it’s got plenty of power btw if that’s your concern.
@@FamilyDIYtv yeah and sold based on your review. I was narrowed between this , toro and milwaukee all battery but yeah I voted for the yellow/black.
What is the running time on the Dewalt 60volt trimmer?
Long - check out my review video for perspective
Is this particular Dewalt trimmer equipped with a clutch?
a clutch ? honestly not sure ... why would trimmer have clutch, honestly wondering.
Can you put an Oregon 2 or 3 arm mulching blade on this machine?
I don’t know myself but it seems like it would work.
That dewalt string is killing I use it in my small gas STIHL weed eater. To bad they don’t make is bigger
Use the Echo black diamond (.095) line on it not that orange stuff.
I just bought some because of some positive reviews I read. How much better is it then the line that comes with the DeWalt trimmer?
How often should you grease you trimmer?
prob good idea to do it once a year.
I CANNOT get the old head off. Any help?
Check around the 1:40 mark
I bet the spring fell out of the head. Take the cover off and look if there is a spring on the cover. If not that’s why.
Undecided between this head and the ego speed feed
I still like it. Don’t think you can go wrong.
I like that DeWalt but for the money $300 would have got you a stihll fsa-60r
I have a friend who has this same one it isn't as powerful and you're stuck to just having 1 thing to use the dewalt allows you to change out to use pole saws and trimmers and so on.
@@marcowens3522 no you got me there but I have thrown away two other electric trimmers. I need a motor that's not going to quit on me. All of my stihl products still work phenomenally
I replaced my Dewalt 60 volt line with smooth .095 no name and it seems to help keep the string from binding up inside the spool.
I also reduced the line from 10 ft to 6 ft
