@Danny well done Danny, new research shows that lobsters do in fact feel pain, and they also do not have an autonomic nervous system and don't have this ability to go into 'shock' like other animals, so when they are exposed to cruel procedures (such as having their claws or 'tail-meat' torn off or being boiled alive) - their suffering is prolonged.
That's nothing compared to what they do to dogs! They'll skin dogs alive and keep them alive and moving for sale or they'll boil dogs alive in front of customers.

All I know is that I have seen plenty of times where homecooked lobsters are often times just tossed into steamer perfectly alive. You don't associate dry aging over industrial fridge when you think about steak: you imagine that you dry-rub the steak down with allspice and some of your family's favorite recipe before you put that thick 5inch ribeye on the grill. It is what I also do. Again, the easiest and more accessible method than cracking the shell and killing the thing. Sitting here after admiring how much epic Lobster Sashimi would taste like, came down to the forums with folks thinking that BOILING lobster alive is a more humane treatment than cutting its tail off and letting it bleed out.
Dudes. I respect the cringe. Freshness aside, it wouldn't hurt to kill the lobster before lodging its tail off. Cool. But friends, READ WHAT YOU ARE WRITING. How in the world is BOILING A PERSON ALIVE more humane than chopping half his/her body off? They are BOTH CRUEL TREATMENT. Just that boiling lobster is more widely accepted cooking method than cutting off parts while it is still alive. Just because you are more used to it, doesn't make it less cruel treatment. Just because you do it to your store-bought lobsters, doesn't make it more humane.

I have seen it happen on both ways, I believe... and I would have to believe that most lobster establishments would treat their lobsters with some degree of respect. All I know is that I have seen plenty of times where homecooked lobsters are often times just tossed into steamer perfectly alive. Maybe I just have less sensitive neighbors ^^;;;
That aside, I am criticizing those who say that we should either "kill them first or boil them." The syntax of these phrases would lend one to assume that boiling a lobster was an alternative to killing them first, so I concluded that they were on the latter category of boiling without killing.

Exactly. Homecooked means that it is something that you associate the most with. You don't associate dry aging over industrial fridge when you think about steak: you imagine that you dry-rub the steak down with allspice and some of your family's favorite recipe before you put that thick 5inch ribeye on the grill.
The bias comes from what you associate the most: most would associate how to treat lobster like what is easiest and probably the most associated: popping the poor sucker in boiling steamer or water. It is what I also do. Again, the easiest and more accessible method than cracking the shell and killing the thing. That's why I call foul on the whole issue: is is truly worse that you are cut in half compared to being boiled alive? Isn't that just a hypocrisy to comfort yourself thinking that boiling the animal would alleviate its suffering when it is just the easiest method to prepare the ingredients? In fact, isn't that what we all think of when we are looking at lobsters: as ingredients? Why the double standards? We go to restaurants and chefs because they make good food, not because they have higher standards of morality than us. Thus, why should they be put on a higher moral plane when we ourselves are under such low standards? I don't mind the criticism if you are a vegan or vegetarian... but as meat-eaters, why do you put other humans on such a high standard when we ourselves are judged by much, MUCH lower morality? That's my gripe... and exactly, EXACTLY what you said is true: "homecooked" is the buzzword.
