My F250 diesel weighs more than most of these rigs and have never had an issue in sand. But I of course run no more than 15 psi in my tires at all times when in the sand lol.
I went with friends who just got a 4wd to a 4wd training course and found it hilarious the instructor was saying that it's not a good idea to lower the pressure in your tyres
I did frazer years ago in a Suzuki Sierra and managed ok but was near washed away on a high tide trap coming back to the ferry. With the Mercedes wagon you can see that should not be going on Frazer, if I was there I would say turn round mate you're asking for trouble with that car it's not made for this neither set up for it

“Street” tyres would work better than AT or mud in the sand. The last thing you want is to dig down. Drop air pressure and don’t put your foot to the floor. Limit wheel spin.

The gear reductions required would be insane to be able to match the low end torque of a diesel in low 4. In hard sand, it doesn’t really matter what power pack is under the hood.

First rule of sand club, no matter how much load the vehicle is under, no matter how much it is struggling, no matter how much the clutch is burning..... NEVER under any circumstances select low range (or so it seems when looking at some of the dills here)....

I watched dozens of modern 4x4s going through the same obstacles, seemingly easy, but you'd be surprised that Toyota's are not the best, German cars beat the shit out of them in every challenge

Watching a multitude of videos showing cars being bogged all over Fraser Island and inskip pt, shows me that weight is your enemy and the only cars floating over the sand without having to speed are Suzukis and Wranglers.
Sand is all about tyre pressures and horsepower. Petrols put out the hp and diesels put out the torque. Torque digs holes, hp does quick work and keeps you gliding over the sand. Petrol power is totally different to diesel and a big 4.0L petrol is a lot of engine. Great for this shit
