- Hello lovely people, I'm Stella from Stella's Yarn Universe. In this Amigurumi tutorial, we will crochet this little bird. It's a little wren called Winifred, inspired by a wren who lives in my garden.
This is a fun little project, ideal for practised beginner crocheters and up. Don't be intimidated by the color changes. You can also crochet your bird in one color only.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:
- DK/light worsted weight yarn in brown or brown flecked (I used Scheepjes Stone Washed in Brown Agate)
- DK/light worsted weight yarn in beige (I used Rico Creative Ricorumi DK in Mastic)
- A tiny amount of DK/light worsted weight yarn in camel or orange (I used Rico Creative Ricorumi DK in Caramel)
- 2.5mm/B-1 or C-2 crochet hook: www.lovecrafts.com/en-gb/p/cl...
- 4mm safety eyes

- Yarn needle

- 30cm / 12" piece of 1mm thick craft wire

I decided to try your little Winnefred the wren. :) I'm a novice at crochet so I made him in acrylic I had.
I need to work on color changes, but that just means he gets a friend or 2 lol

GIRL! Thank you so so much for this adorable pattern! We have a pair of Carolina wrens at home that visit our feeder on the porch, and I followed the pattern but used the Posh "baby blanket" yarn I think it was, in light brown and tan, and I had a pattern for a raven's beak that was longer and curved downward a bit I added to the wren in light grey. I also added long white eyebrow stripes, and put a couple stitches at the base of the tail where it meets the top of the wren's back, and pulled tight to make the tail stand straight up! It looks so good! It looks as if it were made by the Audubon bird plushies! I'm very happy with it and love it so so much! There's not a pattern online for a wren ANYWHERE! I’m finding on the first row of changing colour the stitches don’t add up! I only have 3 stitches left where as as far as I can see! You have around 5 stitches left….. I have attempted this several times and always end up the same 🤷♀️

That could work. If you make two separate feet you could insert them where you want them to go and then secure them with a few drops of super glue around the base of the legs. I hope it’ll work nicely! 😊

Do you happen to know approximate yardage for the two colors of yarn?
Hi Kayla, I’m sorry, I didn’t measure the yardage for this one. It’s a very small amount. I think I was able to get 4 birds out of of one skein Scheepjes Stone Washed for the main colour. This would mean around 34 yards. I only used a small remnant for the lighter belly.

can I do this with heavy yarn?
Sure, you can. Just upscale the hook size accordingly. You may also need thicker wire for the feet then, or you take it double. 😊
