I’m about to replace my front/rear struts on my 2010 Camaro, do the springs need to be replaced since they aren’t under much stress or do you recommend changing them, also does the mount and bellow need to be replaced when doing the struts?
I would suggest replacing the mount if you are already replacing the strut. The springs do not need to be replaced but if you are looking for a different look then you already have them disassembled, so making the update is easy.
Phastek Performance ok thank you, I was going to buy new OEM springs or ones with same length, but if it won’t make a difference I’ll just stick with the stock springs
Bruhhhh that rear bolt not the 21nm shock one but the one in the knuckle behind the brake rotor the 18mm, can’t seem to line up the holes 🕳️ to drive the bolt through ughhh it’s frustrating
The stiffer spring goes to rear and softer wider goes front ,pay attention at which order he is removing the nuts, very important, did this today, took me 5 hours for 2rear springs!because I removed bolts in the wrong order, the video is good but at least put details in description, for first time people is quite difficult !
Adrian B What did you do, mix up the springs? All you have to do is just match up the springs your taking off, with the ones you want to put on, this is not rocket science. Even for novices. This job wasn't that hard. I don't even have a compressor. Dude, they upload vidoes like this for you to pay attention, I did everything just like he did it, it wasn't as straight forward because my Camaro is a noticably driven midwest car, and I don't have a compressor or air tools. Very good experience, and let me tell you, spring compressors are a pain in the ass.
You might have to put a wrench on the main nut and then a socket on the other end to hold the shaft from spinning. That should allow you to remove the end link.
@@PhastekPerformance i got it done. The sway bar link comes out fine if you take the strut mount nut off first. The links were horrible to get off with vice grips. Was not easy at all.
The rubber is there to prevent the noise of spring clap when the springs are collapsed completely. Its more of a preventative maintenance to protect the spring during use.
At 1:50 is that the top mount tan silicone part that needs to be shaven off for the 2015 SS models? You can see it for 2 seconds but is that it? I want to buy these for my car but noticed that there needs to be modification done for the top mount.
+Juan Bautista Yes, that is the part that needs to be cut on the 2014-2015 cars. We have talked to the manufacturers about the issue with the spring sets and most of them are going to look into the issue and have it fixed. It is just a matter of time .
Juan Bautista You can use a sharp blade knife to shave it down or a die grinder with a sanding pad to shave them down. It is hard to say how much to shave down but a simple cut and fit should let you know where you stand.
Yes, the gap between the factory washer and the body of the car is normal. Its typically not noticed till most people install the springs but it was there with the factory springs.
Man! Glad I found this video!!! No spring compressor just made this a safe and doable DIY jobby!!! :)
ya this is one of the better install videos on youtube. And I watch a lot of them. very well done, THANK YOU
Thank you! This was an old video but it still works very well!
@@PhastekPerformance hotchkiss products for 5th gen camaros are on clearance so maybe get some more views in the next few months !
Nice, are the dampers the same shape and fit for the pontiac g8 or holden commodore 2011? thanks!
thanks for the before and after videos.
I bought 1.25" lowering springs. What will I need to re adjust post-installation?
Is there anything that I need to modify when applying these to a 2014 Camaro SS? Thank you.

Did you use a coil spring compressor to get the cap back on?
what is the cause of clunking / rattling noise? I installed bmr 1" drop springs and the noise is horrible
WestCoastMaros did you ever figure it out?

I was used to German struts with my first camaro this is a walk in the park!
Does the car need to be aligned? Please say no.
The car will need to be aligned after any suspension update.
My sway bar link is stuck... like there's a lot of pressure on it so I can't pull the bolt out

How do i remove the front bolt on the bottom of the arm in the rear? Can’t get a socker on it because of the brake caliper
I can't put the spring back in, awkward
Would a battery impact dewalt do this job?
Maybe for everything but the lower strut bolts.
Where's my EASY button?
What happened on minute 5:02
They did that man dirty
Thanks for a clear and easy to understand video!
Torque specs??
What happens if I heat em up while in car
Why is there rubber tubing half way down on the new spring?

nice video thanks
Anybody got the torque specs?
Have you ever used a subscribers car as a demo on one of your videos
Yes we have. Sometimes we reach out to our local club to see if anyone can help us with a car.
Send it bro 🤙🏻
what a hassle thoo

What if I installed the springs without shaving the mount in my 2015 camaro? Would that cause a knocking noise ?
the boot isnt attached to anything!
+psergott the boot is basically attached to the washer and it just slides over the strut. It is held in place once the whole strut is assembled.
Its supost to be a gap between the rubber and metal on top, please awnser me,thanks
Yes, the gap between the factory washer and the body of the car is normal. Its typically not noticed till most people install the springs but it was there with the factory springs.
How long tell the settle
Springs will typically take 1 week to settle completely once installed.
1 inch drop springs?
The springs used on this car were 1" drop springs. The installation will apply to 5th Gen Camaro's.
ok cool thanks thats what i just purchased but im having trouble finding a shop that times or reclockes the bushings
Is alignment required after?
Do you have to torque down the nuts on each of the springs? If so do you know the settings please? Thanks!
We typically tighten the bolt till it bottoms out but the specific torque spec for that nut is 33 lb/ft.
