Been using this comp for almost a year ..great unit .really works well light years better than my old boss cs3 ..much more musical the blend control works fantastic.
What's causing the spike / jump in volume right at the onset of the decay 1:59 and 2:59 ? Is that another effect (i.e. noise gate). I worry how this would work for ambient pads.
How to kill the noise that occurs when the tone is muted by gentler playing. I already know from experience that noise gate devices can not help. Is there any other solution to this problem?
It took me a while to figure out how it works. The only problem is when I take out the blend because It starts feeding back through the amp. When i turn the blend all the way to 3 o'clock I don't get any feed.
That is the compression on his recorder. Seems like he is using an on board mic on the camera. Commonly these tend to have some kind of undesirable compression that isn't even mentioned by the manufacturer.
I had a Tech 21 compressor that did the same thing and even worse. You could hear steps of volume increase as it sustained instead of a smooth increase.
IF you listen closely- it happens at least once or twice when the compressor is OFF listen at 3:46 after the second pick strike. I think that the rise in volume is from the the camera mic limiting. This happens a lot with YT videos when amp is not recorded with a separate mic through a mixer. You can tell because the guitar sound has the same room sound as Jay's voice- it is not close mic'ed.
This was strange on the first compression example. Both times I heard the chord regenerated. I guess it could be something else doing it but sounded weird.
That’s the distortion left on... when you heard the noise it’s not the compressor. It’s when he used the gain pedals. Sounds like you use cheap cables and have crappy electronics in the guitar.
@@skittlesstarburst4532 sounds like you are some sort of expert, and a keen observer of detail. Yes captain obvious, most compressors add more noise when used with an already distorted signal. Though I like it, the noise with this particular pedal is more pronounced, in my opinion.
Jay is such a legend, his Peg solo is so iconic that when you hear it ,it's unforgettable.
incredible musician! His solos are always melodic and interesting!
What an excellent choice to feature the great Jay, Forefather of all the great gtr sounds, always knows what he is talking about.. 👍
Most musical player out there
Absolute genius
Nothing you can do about it from the airplay album! Brilliant! Jay is awesome! So humble and talented beyond belief!
Every pedal demo should be like this
Master Jay. Nice one, Xotic. Thank you.

I love that solo.
I am curious why the compressor is noisy when turn on... can you explain it? I will change my mind from buying that pedal if it has noisy problem
Inadvertently an almost better explaination of how to use a compressor than University
Thanks Jay !!! Your one every cool guy !!I and a great guitar teacher !!!
You have a signature unique style of gtr soloing!!

You can hear a little spike when he plays without the compressor on too at like 1:26. Maybe something to do with how he’s recording (camera mic etc).
@@bwm5150 Yeah! I think it might be a noise gate.
the Peg solo for Steeley Dan if i remember correctly genius
If you mean the solo in the beginning of the video its from the Airplay album from 1980, song, "Nothing you can do about it"
@@kgbcorvette
No, he doesn't mean that.

Super review from a super musician
What electronics do you use to eliminate the ground hum from the guitar/amps?
Me: meh, not another video... I should go to bed
*video starts*
Me: Well, guess there's "nothin you can do about it"
Love them NS 1000s Jay! Do you use any other studio monitors besides those?
nice to see you in good shape!
Greattt sounding solo in the beggining of the vid
From “Nothing You Can Do About It” by his band (with David Foster) Airplay.
It took me a while to figure out how it works. The only problem is when I take out the blend because It starts feeding back through the amp. When i turn the blend all the way to 3 o'clock I don't get any feed.
So is this a new track he's working on? Sounds like something right out of 1981.
As the chord is sustaining you hear a very noticeable jump in volume. He never mentions it.

Yup. I assumed it was from the camera. There's no way he'd not notice it if it was the pedal.
Nick Saban is a pretty good guitar player!
wow, so funny
What's the track Jay played at the start? Very musical and tasty
It is the solo from the song "Nothing you can do about it" from Airplay (Jay Graydon & David Foster)
PEG!!!
What's causes the slight pause and increase in volume towards the end of the chord sequence around 2:11?
I noticed this too. Hope that is not the SP

I have this pedal and agree it is good
Is it me or the compressor HAD A LOT OF NOISE ....?
Hi, this is Peg. I want my solo back.
Peg it will come back to you.....
@@markjob7736 great !!!!!
I’ve had this pedal for years. I like it, but it’s noisy as hell. You can even hear it in this video.
