    These are pretty handy for field work on small awg wire. Careful of cold joints on power wires. For the bench though you can't beat a good soldering station. I prefer the cheap stm32 oled stations. Heat up in like 5 seconds. Lots of options.

    Did the temp readout feel accurate? You probably didn't test against an IR readout, but was it behaving as it should at the temps you set, or did you have to turn things up higher than normal? (wondering if the readout is accurate, or just a digital version of those cheap dial adjustable irons)

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  3 года назад +2

      It seemed accurate to me based on my use of the Hakko iron I normally use.

  • @abertheham
    @abertheham 3 года назад

    Paid about $40 for a Weller 40W with the base station and a scaled power knob (i.e. 1-6, not temp controlled) back when I first got into the hobby. It’s not fancy but it’s reliable as hell and once you know about where to set the knob, it’s not difficult to produce good results. Great on the bench for over 5 years now, but I think I’ll snag one of those D60s for on the go if I don’t win one.
    I was too cheap for a TS100 when I had a decent bench iron, but it’s really hard to argue with $30 for that thing… I usually take more than one quad out so it’s less of an issue now but, put it this way: if a single Rx wire comes loose in a first pack crash on your only quad, you really kick yourself for not having a field iron.

      Hey I've been using the DIY version of the cheap stm32 oled station with t12 tips. Like $40 or so. T12 is the way to go. You can swap them while hot easy. Have several. Replaced my main Weller station with one. Heats up in under 5 seconds. Actual accurate and adjustable turndial temperature in programmable increments, programmable boost, standby and sleep. Auto wakeup. Best iron on the market short of a pro JCB which is ridiculous expensive.

    I saw this model on rdq when I was buying a new soldering iron but the sq-001 had more of a reputation as being good so I went that route. I felt like the price difference for something that would last me years was worth it. The only problem I have now is the plug coming out of the back of the iron if I accidentally tug on it when soldering and changing positions.

    Hi Albert, I watched your demo video of the SQ-D60B Soldering iron, and I was wondering if this soldering iron heats up the pads as quick as the SQ-001 or the TS-100? The video was sped up during the soldering process, so I really couldn't tell how quick the solder was able to be applied to the pads. I've seen some soldering irons that would take forever to solder 1 pad.

    • @Stankycreekbmx
      @Stankycreekbmx 3 года назад +1

      I have a friend with the TS-100, SQ-001 and the SQ-D60B. He's a soldering nut I guess. I've borrowed them on many occasion in the field. You almost can't tell the difference in performance. It heats up a lot faster than my Weller that's built over a hundred quads. This has plenty of heat for RC.

    • @gargolaconrad3188
      @gargolaconrad3188 3 года назад +1

      @@Stankycreekbmx OK thanks. I have 2 Wellers, and they sit in a drawer. They take forever to heat up and when they do, they don't seem to get hot enough to make a good solder joint. I'll never buy another Weller. I was wondering about the Sequre SQ-001, but didn't know how reliable they were, so I've been reluctant to purchase one, and I've never heard of the SQ-D60B until I saw your video. Thanks for the info. have a great day.

    • @AlbertKimTV
      @AlbertKimTV  3 года назад +2

      At the same temp, they work about the same speed. For some of the larger pads, I probably can raise the temp to 400C but 350C was fast enough for me. Sometimes are higher temps the solder flux can splash out more.
