I was playing Division 2 for the first time today when this started to randomly play since youtube was on autoplay in the background. It fit so well that I thought it was actually part of the game. I was like "damn, they did good on the soundtrack" only to find out it was from 2042.

This OST sounds like the musical personification of the word 'bittersweet'. Thunderous, epic, powerful, but just as somber and foreboding. Like the theme to a battle hard fought and won but one just before the war to come.
this song really feels like 2042. global warming, wars, vanished human rights, human evolution and technologies, space technology and quantum evolution, destinations for other habitable planets. this is a very fun battlefield but knowing the story behind it and very melancholy.
It’s even worse when you think about just how many of the No-Pats are only No-Pats because they just don’t have countries to go back to. Like, Sundance? They were a French National, then France collapses due to environmental and social issues, and suddenly Sundance just… doesn’t have a nationality anymore. It’s not that they were kicked out, or that they were MIA during a military operation and couldn’t prove their identity, they legitimately don’t *have a country*. Most people take citizenship to whatever country they were born in for granted. Do you honestly have *any* idea what you’d do if you woke up tomorrow and the country you were born in simply didn’t exist anymore? And the story is repeated Again and Again for the other operatives. Falck, German Special Forces, retired. Picks up a gun and gets back in it after Germany collapses and her Son is missing, rumored to be with the No-Pats but who knows? Lis, Polish GROM special forces. She was wounded in action and when she gets out of the hospital, finds out there’s just no more Poland to fight for.
Yeah I really wish they did a campaign, damn shame they didn't fully deliver on this game. I bet this would have been the game that put them far ahead.
What's so good about this imo is the 2 tones running side by side, the ethereal vocals full of wonder at the aspect of 'Future' and then the instrumental telling you that it could be wonderful but it isn't because the 'Future' is all war
Indeed it is! Would love to see DICE pull a few surprises out of their sleeve for Year 2, rather than more "maps, weapons, battle passes." Some new gameplay mechanics like airstrikes or heavy weapon drops, or new permanent game types now that 2042 has a much steadier gaming population. I still think even just a couple repeatable co-op missions would do wonders expanding the narrative and adding a bit of variety.
I set it on repeat and listen to it while playing RPGs like Skyrim. If I don’t have secondary audio stimulation I start to zone out and get zoinky so I gotta have music or something playing on my phone. This music is perfect.
I think this is the best musical theme for this game. It encapuslates the idea of destroyed beauty, a damaged world and the melancholic feeling of what could have been. Matches the game itself perfectly.

I think the theme is holding on to what little hope is left. Its been the entire vibe of this game. All ropes break. The bf2042 main theme sounds miserable because in 2042 its a global crisis. Resources depleted. Climate order is ruptured. Ecosystems are falling. Millions displaced from the old world we know as today in our time. The sliver that maybe things might be good again. But the next battlefield is already decided and rumored to be in space so I'm guessing we fled to the stars.

The OST is on Spotify, but it does not include any of the newer seasonal music. Perhaps EA DICE will release an updated soundtrack later, like after the end of Year 2 for example? Not sure!

bf2042 is actually good now idc what you say yeah its not as good as bf4 or bf1 but its got way butter than the release with mw3 desppointment i switched to bf2042 and im enjoying it so much
Battlefield 2042 definitely peaked in Season 4. Like don't get me wrong, Reclaimed and Redacted are OK maps, but Spearhead is the GOAT and this menu music tops all others.
The rest of the soundtrack is on Spotify, but it appears none of the seasonal music is yet. Perhaps they will release a compilation after the conclusion of Year 2? Who knows!
