Whenever this song pops up on one of my playlists, it washes over me like a big nostalgic wave carrying me back to the mid 90s. Low came out in the summer of 1993 and I started my freshman year in high school that fall, so it makes me feel like the long-haired, 14-year old stoner that I was back in those days.
Are. "They are a really good band." They're still touring to this day all over the place. I've seen them 4 times now & will continue to see them when ever possible. Cracker jams likes no other.
That whole album Kerosene is fire, pardon the pun In their previous incarnation some of the members were in a band called camper Von beethoven, which were big in the alternative music scene. They came and played our student union here in Lawrence Kansas when I was in my twenties. The bass player in my band of many years was in a band at that time that opened for them. The first hit they had on alternative radio, which later crossed over to some degree because it got used in movies sometimes, is a hilarious and fun song called Take the Skinheads Bowling.
Cracker ROCKS! Just saw them Live a few weeks ago, on what could be their last Tour. The lead singer David Lowery is also a Professor of Music Business at University of Georgia Athens. David’s previous Band, Camper Van Beethoven is also awesome. Both formed in the Town I live in, Redlands, CA. You should definitely follow this Band into the Rabbit Hole. CVB too.
"Stoned" came up as slang for getting "stone drunk" back in the forties and fifties, but took on the cannabis connotations it holds today in the sixties. Its use in "Low" also conjures up the possibility that its meant in the Biblical sense of publically executing sinners by throwing stones at them. As others have pointed out, Cracker frontman David Lowery started his musical career with Camper Van Beethoven, who were from Santa Cruz, California for a time back when I was in high school. For a taste, check out some of these tunes -- "Take the Skinheads Bowling", "Ambiguity Song", "Eye of Fatima", "When I Win The Lottery", "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" -- among many others.
Not everyone gets all music especially an adult who didn't grow up with it I actually enjoy watching someone get out of their comfort zone and try different things it took me 4-5 years to get into rock only band I sort of liked was korn and only one or two songs t's been over 10 years since I started listening to Rock/metal and I use to be like Brad but one song at a time I enjoyed it more so maybe stop judging someone who is trying new things and to be honest some of the shit people recommend is trash like this songs is a 4/10
To me this song is about the depression one feels when a relationship is falling apart. What I really love about it though, are the two guitars in the refrain, the way their melodies mix together in a more complex whole.
Caught Cracker at First Ave in Mpls when they were supporting this album. The place was PACKED. All sorts of hot inside. Everyone seemed to have the right buzz. Just a bunch of sweaty, midwestern, 20-something, gen xers bouncing around & head bobbing in unison.
Killer track from a damn fine band, saw them point black about 15 years ago and did they ever rock, they had the crowd going crazy! Try Let's Go For a Ride, one of the best, fast-paced rockers you will ever hear. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Another great 90's band. Heard this song what feels like a million times but it never gets old. I also feel like his voice could do some great Tom Petty covers.
When I was at Fort Hood in the 90's. I was in one of the bars off Post and this came on the Jukebox. The bar had like 20-30 dudes who all started singing this song. Lot of not happy looks from the ladies.😂
Great reaction Brad & Lex! 😎 David Lowery has such a unique voice and Cracker are amazing live! So many great songs!!! Check out "This is Cracker Soul", "Be My Love", "Teen Angst", "Sweet Potato", and "Sweet Thistle Pie". Some more great tracks you should hit from David's other band Camper Van Beethoven: "(I Was Born In A) Laundromat", "Pictures of Matchstick Men", "When I Win The Lottery", "Sweethearts", and "Borderline". 🔥🔥🔥
This is a fantastic album. This song and Euro Trash Girl were big hits, but it's full of great songs. I'm partial to Take Me Down to the Infirmary, I Want Everything, Movie Star, and Lonesome Johnny Blues. Great choice
There have been plenty of songs about getting high, but not so many about getting low. In this song, David Lowery of Cracker tries to convince a girl to go down with him - not an easy sell. There are drug references all over this song - "junky cosmonaut," "A million poppies gonna make me sleep" - but especially in the chorus: I'll be with you, girl, like being low Hey, hey, hey like being stoned Lowery has never been clear on the meaning, but his record company did make him sign a letter saying that the lyric was "like being stone" in an effort to convince radio stations that the song was not about drugs.
Great band that does not get nearly enough attention IMO. They’ve been around for a long time so lots of material to dig into. Some suggestions: Sweet Thistle Pie, Wedding Day, Take Me To the Infirmary, Lonesome Johnny Blues, Get on Down the Road, just to name a few. It’s an eclectic mix, but that’s Cracker - they touch on everything from country to grunge, typically with a bit of sarcasm laced lyrics.
Thanks for doing this! Always a fan of this song! As someone else said, lead singer Lowery also led the band Camper Van Beethoven, who also had great stuff. "Eye of Fatima" is a good track by them!
@@erykvonritzmann4741 I just meant in terms of sound. I’ve seen Cracker a few times live in Charleston in the 90’s and they were fantastic live. They even released songs they didn’t release in other cities because they were so popular there.
Solid band. I saw them play at a club under the name Big Dirty Yellow before they locked in on Cracker. Happy Birthday to Me and Teen Angst (What the world needs now) are two of my favs.
They play Towne Point Park in Norfolk, Virginia for free every summer. At the end of the show we would jump into the Elizabeth River. Cops try to fine us until 50 other people jump in. 😂
Just saw them in concert a week ago, a great band. Though this is one of their two “hits” (teen angst), they have far better in their catalog that don’t get recognition.
Another great rock group I’ve never heard anyone play from early 90’s, right before grunge, is “Got No Shame”, by Brother Cane which is led by Damon Johnson who started the band and is is a great singer and a fantastic lead guitarist. They have many other great songs!
@@JakefromStateFarm-mj7zh Yeah, it kinda leans toward a novelty song and probably doesn't make much sense to anyone who has not suffered through countless punk show with moronic hammer skins ruining it for everyone. I always loved The Day that Lassie Went to the Moon. So many great tunes!
Cracker is often overlooked but in the 90s they were a unique vibe. Strongly recommend Eurotrash Girl
Absolutely seconded…
I'd search the world over for a reactor to do this song.
@@user-rn6cb5tc6r LOL, I'd sell my plasma
Eurotrash girl is incredible. They’d love it.

Cracker, one of the most, if the not the most, underrated bands of the nineties.

Yeah - but Camper *Van* Beethoven (you miss the whole pun if you spell it your way) ; )
Classic tune.. 90’s jam passion
High is the immediate euphoric buzz of a drug, stoned is the long slow decline after the euphoria.
What this channel needs now is your reaction to Cracker - Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now).

Great band. James River is another classic song from them.
Beautiful! Love it! Liked it! Saved it for later! 🤩🥰👑
From 1993, the start of great alt-rock on a grand scale. This song kicks like a mule, with a sick, throbbing bassline.

I'm feeling this jam. Got it on my music list 🤟❤️
it was def all over in the 90's, when the radio got a hold of it.. Its nice to hear again, going on some of my playlists too.. Its a vibe .
One thing about the nineties was that nobody analyzed the meaning of Cracker lyrics.
These guys were the reason I learned to play guitar.
Brad is usually always keen to the innuendos, so I'm surprised that he missed it. "Take you down, let the river flow."
More like he is perpetually confused and takes the fun out of songs by not “feeling” the music, nice guy though
Brad is usually lost as to the meaning of the songs, whereas Lexi gets it immediately, and puts her unique spin on it.
@@MrCzarGuy1 Brad is pretty much useless. If it weren't for Lex's unique vision, I wouldn't watch this at all. And, she's hott.

Saw Cracker back in the 90s. Awesome live band. Check out their song Euro trash Girl for for a sly cynical tune. David Lowry is a creative genius.
Euro trash Girl, yes
