I love this song, it totally slaps. As for the song's meaning, from what I gather it's about people turning to alcohol to deal with frustration and lack of confidence in their lives. Bound for the floor means drinking until you pass out.
It sounds like it’s more about a divide between the types of people who become alcoholic (someone born to be down) juxtaposed with the people who had a decent upbringing (someone who just doesn’t get it.) The person born to be down will not really get anywhere in life, and a lot of “normal” people can’t even comprehend why they can’t do any better for themselves, often faking their own happiness by perceiving the world as a fantasy place where “everything works out if you just try hard enough, that means there’s hope for everyone.” But in reality, not everyone is so fortunate to even get a chance to live unsuppressed, and ignoring this is a form of cowardice, it’s a pathetic way to live, always hiding from the truth just to keep yourself happy and your semblance of order intact I think the lyric that best supports this theory is the part where he references himself at first only to say “what good is confidence” then immediately switches to talking about “you” not “getting it.” Saying what good is confidence is the exact opposite of having a copacetic attitude, so he’s obviously not talking about himself in the chorus
@@AworldAgainstHateSpeechI always interpreted the "you just don't get it" as the drunk not understanding their situation or how to better it because they "keep it copacetic" meaning they just try to ride it out and stay agreeable rather than actively addressing their problem
Best. Day. Ever. Thank you for finally checking out Local H! They still consistently put out great alt rock albums and are still one of the best live shows you’ll catch at a smaller venue. Now if I can just get you to react to the band The Urge my life would be complete.
Ah, the nostalgia. I always felt like this is about a person who goes along with everything and keeps everyone happy even if they aren't because they don't know how to stand up for themselves. Keep rocking guys! 🤘🔥🤘❤️
i love when a new brad and lex vid pops up with a song i thought they would have already covered a year ago this is an absolute classic of 90s alt rock
So this is my favorite band. Starting in 1990 and still putting out great music to this day. 2 piece band. Scott Lucas (singer/guitarist) is now on his 3rd drummer. Scott actually runs a separate line to a bass amp so he actually plays bass and guitar together. They started at 4 members-went to 3 - then when it went to 2 he decided to go that route. Though they were categorized as a grunge band I consider them more a Garage Rock band. Misanthrope or The One With Kid are the songs I suggest next.
That sound Lex is talking about is called a 'hi-hat'. Two cymbals mounted close together that can be opened and shut with a pedal, hence the cymbal sound can be started for a moment then cut off.
When Brad says modern songs talk more about depression than 30-40 years ago… it’s interesting a song that’s what 25 years old is thought of as modern still.
Well if you go back to medieval times when the harp was hot I’d doubt you find a lot of music reminiscent of grunge or punk rock. Really says a lot about how far society has fallen, The only thing we got now is medicine that will save your life in the moment, only to get you addicted or have deadly side effects later on. Well that and computers, a lot of good they’ve (not) done for the blue collar industries we rely on today
Local H are amazing.. they rarely ever tour over in Europe so I've never caught them live unfortunately. First discovered them in 1999. Also: best Nirvana cover band ever
Lol, this song is from 1996. It is 27 years old. It is getting closer to classic than to modern, nowadays. Also, you guys should check out "Hands on the Bible." Badass song.
I'm glad I checked this out, I've known this song for YEARS and my local rock radio station still places, but I've never known who it was or what the title was.
One of the best two man bands out there. Now I'm going to go on a local H kick. But first. Songs to check out as well as previously mentioned ones: "Hands on the Bible," "Baby Wants to Tame Me," and "What would you have me do?" That last one is and album closer. And it's an AMAZING song. This one and Baby wants to tame me are two of my favorite songs by them. Masterclasses in songwriting. And also leave you wondering if it's actually a 2 man band.
Love this song. It is very nostalgic for me. One of the first songs I learned on guitar. Their cover of Britney Spears' "Toxic" is something you should listen to; it's pretty rad.
This band has like 14 studio albums and they are all AWESOME. Local H has been one of my all-time favorite bands for over a decade. Dont be like every other channel and only do this one song. Suggestions: Local H - PJ Soles Local H - Buffalo Trace Local H - Another February Love and peace. P.S.: It should be noted that their songs (obviously) cover a wide range of topics, and that they have matured a lot since 1996. Did you know Local H is only a two man band? Singer/guitarist/songwriter, Scott Lucas, and the drummer.
Man, this song was all over the radio when I was in high school. Even nowdays, I hear it once in a while on the radio while I'm driving. I just wonder how much bands from 20-30 years ago who aren't around anymore, get paid from radio royalties. 🤔
So crazy, I keep fishing out these songs I haven't heard in a bit, and you cover them not long after. I could imagine a depressed person playing this one on a loop
As a black teenager in Atlanta when this joint first came out, i caught so much flack for listening to 90s grunge rock like this. Learned not to give a s*** about close-minded opinions. One of my top 3 rock songs from that decade.
I remember when this hit the radio. I was living in Worcester, MA and it was in heavy rotation on 107.3 WAAF Worcester/Boston. This kind of stuff followed on the heels of grunge and it was well received. I forgot about this song, but immediately recalled every word. It’s a total ear-worm whether you like it or not.
This is a standard Gen X anthem. Especially coming out of the Chicago music scene. Bands like Local H, stabbing Westward, ministry, etc were just pounding on the hopelessness of the first generation in the USA to ever face a lower standard of living than their parents.
All about mental health and medication. Ritalin. Zion- Benton Illinois north eastern corner of Illinois. Ironically a former very religious town. Most streets are biblical names. Trucker local.
I haven't listened to local h in a minute thank you for reminding me of how badass they are try fritz's corner b😢them love your channel guys keep it up thanks
Definitely check out Freeze Dried (F)lies and High Fivin' MF from this album, and *Cool Magnet" and "What Can I Tell You" from the next album, Pack Up The Cats.
@ Richard_N Spot on mate. Check out the milk in the shot glasses near the end and the last line "I've Learned" on the chalkboard as the girl turns to YOU to hand you the chalk. Great subliminal messaging in this song which is about alcoholism and how far too many deal with it. Brad is pretty close... depression... but it's the type of depression that comes when you surrender to the bottle and lose all desire to fight for your life. "You learn to accept it." Lost a good friend and incredible drummer to alcoholism... even after the doc told him "your liver is gone. If you drink, you will die." It's a terrible beast... a vicious demon that will swallow you, soul and all. 😞
I always grouped this song, the band Folk Implosions song Natural One and the band Hum’s song Stars as great one hit wonders from mid-1990’s alternation rock bands.
I know everyone is giving their opinion, so I'll give mine. I think it's about classes. Inner city kids, born economically stagnant and bound to it. I personally think the use of children reflects it's sad reality. 'You just don't get it, you keep it copacetic' on face value it might mean the other classes, they think this is fine, that it's normal and that they will never understand, so it repeats on and on. And the lyrics repeating show a similar pattern in our society.
@@joesmith8725 Thank you Joe❣I was turning my lap top sideways etc trying to figure that one out- I have a cousin Joe Smith his real name-thanx again Joe!
Coworker was thrown for a loop.. I'm the only person he's heard say copacetic. "THAT'S where I've heard that word- a Local H song!" Then he played it for everyone. Good times!
Google: The adjective copacetic can describe the general mood of a group or gathering, a relationship between two people, or even the harmonies in a piece of music, with a meaning ranging from "just fine" to "excellent." Copacetic is considered an informal word, but it's been commonly used since around 1920.
It's about drugs - People are sometimes accepting something but it's not the right thing - I think the rollercoaster is a metaphor for drugs. He was expressing something/or upset about a situation. Honestly with family members who got into addiction/and then you see the cycle and you try to help but they keep getting into stupid stuff. I understand this song. It's a good song.
I love this song, it totally slaps. As for the song's meaning, from what I gather it's about people turning to alcohol to deal with frustration and lack of confidence in their lives. Bound for the floor means drinking until you pass out.
It could have meaning in many things. Leaders, society trying to hold us down. Don't keep it copecetic bitches!

Slaps like 2 cheeks turning the other cheek

This song is just so great. A funky alt rock banger in the aftermath of grunge. Whenever I hear this randomly somewhere it gets my full attention.

Such nostalgia listening to this. Always had a great time seeing them live.
Their album "Pack Up the Cats" is one of the best Albums of the later 90s.
They have a ton of great albums. My personal favorites are Here Comes The Zoo and What Ever Happened To PJ Soles.
