That is a BIG block...love it! Thinking this is going to be a fun fun fun quilt to do. Pat Sloan, enjoyed today's visit, even if it's after supper time. Plan of seeing you online tomorrow! Have a great evening (what's for supper? I had a salad)😊 Going to call mine "Rebuilding My Closet" cause all my clothes have been ruined by smoke😢
I love Home Ec classes. Mine was in Junior High School. My favorites cooking class and sewing class. My project was a skirt. Came out beautiful but definitely was a little tight. I had to wear it to the class. It was hilarious. I used to sewing my daughter's clothes and especially special dresses; and then there was Halloween costumes for my daughter and son and suit jacket for my husband. Wow you brought me back in time Pat. Progressed to quilting and am very happy.
Love the last color combination with the large floral, dark Paisley, and dark medallion. I really love Paisley prints. Thank you for taking us through this tutorial and your thought process. Have a great day. ❤😊
I finally decided what I’m going to use! We are moving our rig tomorrow so I may be a week behind. Have to move our storage too. Gotta have my fabric! I wear aprons seldom. Thank you so much Miss Pat! I love your quilt alongs!
I need more block varieties in my repertoire, THANKS! My first sewing project (1975) was an apron too, out of duck cloth, ugh. Our second project was a men's tie, even worse. My Dad actually wore it.... once or twice before it became "lost. My son's class made a pillowcase and "house pants" (pj pants).
Pat ... I am a new quilter and new to following you. Just received a notice from Joann Fabrics ... they have a whole line of mushroom stuff ... from fabric to door mats to decor to ... well, you name it! Thought of you 1st when I saw the flyer for this. Hugs, Beverly from Palm Coast, FL :-)
There were lots of mushroom decor items at my local TJ Maxx last night. Thought of you Pat and almost bought myself the red one but talked myself out of it. May have to go back!
I’ve never made an apron but I’ve made lots of clothes! I started in high school Home Ec, made several dresses. Then made my maternity clothes, outfits for my daughter and son, learned how to smock and made smocked dresses for my daughter. Then for the grandchildren smocked bibs, dresses and even a smocked John John for my grandson! They are all now teenagers so now I’m a quilter!
Fun theme for this quilt! Aprons! Yes, I have made a few but way before pictures. And they have been gifted. My grandmother used to wear aprons all the time. She was always impeccably dressed, complete with red lipstick and nails! I learned sewing in school too but it was not a lightbulb moment, just one more craft to add to my repertoire! It was a smock with a ruffle on sleeve cap, in light blue with tiny apple cores on it. Funny I remember those details.
Hi Pat! The block came out so pretty! That's a great size for a table topper!! Just add a couple borders. And your horse blocks are really coming along 😊😊
I started teaching Home Ec in 1974! In the days of making an apron in the sewing class to wear in the cooking class! When we brought “ guys “ into the classes we quickly changed the style of aprons we made. I still hear from students from those years because We still live in the same area. A couple have even called me to help clean their Grand-Mother’s sewing rooms after they passed away. Treasures were found every time ! My sewing now is mostly quilts ! Your comments brought back so many wonderful memories!
Yes I made an apron for my grandma. She wore apron all the time. So in 7th grade we were making aprons and I was so excited to make it and give it to her ❤❤❤
Sewing was in my blood. My grandmother was a sewist, and her aunts in England sewed for the Royal Family, which is not a big deal. It just means you were a type of servant to them. I had a nun who taught HomeEc and she was an excellent teacher. We didn't start out making simple things. She just threw us into making clothes AFTER we learned how to use the sewing machine and practice a lot just sewing on paper (no thread). I remember almost everything I made in HomeEc (almost 40 years ago); pants, a golf shirt, a button-up shirt, a swimsuit, a long dress that turned out so nice, I proudly wore it to a wedding, and a jacket to name a few things. I didn't start making quilts to much later, and now I hardly ever make clothes.
I love seeing you in an apron. It feels so homey. Thank you for mixing the sizes of blocks in the sampler quilts as I think it makes them so interesting to look at.
I love block Wednesday and this large block looks incredible. I love the drawing room fabric and could really use the layer cake to sew a long with perfect 10 Thanks for all you do for us. Peggy
I've made LOTS of aprons for me, my daughters, and my sons. My grands love wearing their mom and dad's aprons from when THEY were little! I even made a couple for my hubby!! ❤
Yes, make another block to hand on your door. I don’t know why but I usually don’t wear aprons, and you look so cute in your coffee apron. Your white one that you don’t want to get dirty, maybe you could wear it in the sewing room to help keep threads off your regular clothes. Your Perfect 10 Horse quilt is going to be so pretty.
An apron was the first item sewn in Home Ec Class in 1954! I still have it plus a whole apron collection I've collected over the years. All types of aprons. Don't usually wear them, just love them. Have aprons from my husband's grandmothers, etc. too. I want to make a wall hanging with mini aprons as the quilt blocks. Have the pattern. Now to get the time and energy at the same time!
So often I would pick differently than you. I liked the tan rather than paisley.. but if you did both they would both be awesome. So nice you show us your way but I CAN DO IT MY WAY 😊
Loved the video The block is great. I am going out of state to help my children. Not going to start. Hopefully I will have a chance to start when I return. Have a great day😃
Pat I would love to purchase you beautiful fabrics but tight budget. An you tell me how many fat quarters are actually needed for What's in your Closet?
Hi Pat… I’m making the perfect 10 book quilt ‘French Vanilla’ the same as yours with horse fabric. Did you change the sashing between blocks and rows to 1.5 inches? Patter n calls for 2.5 inches
No you do not have to purchase it. My first project in Home Ec was an apron 😊
Mine too.
Yep, mine too!
Love that large block for the door, great idea :).
I love layer cakes. You can do so much with them and they are already color coordinated.
Watching you audition the fabrics was very interesting. I liked how you talked through your choices. Thank you! ❤
Pat, I'm always so amazed how beautifully you have colors of fabrics work together! I learn so much from you!
I loved sewing in Junior High School home eco
I absolutely love your drawing room fabric. It's so up my alley.😅😊❤

My first clothing item was a smock, too!! Probably the same pattern!! haha Mine was yellow gingham 😊😊
Love this block, loving the fabric but I was sure one that quarter bundle will be enough?

Good morning! Loved block Wednesday! The quilt block is beautiful!

Your Perfect 10 Horse quilt is going to be so pretty.
I believe your “little people” Christmas print is from a line called Hustle and Bustle
Wish I didn’t have to go to work so I could see up this block. What cute pillow it would make too.
Put blue painter’s tape around your edge of the ruler and you can frame out/see your fabric
