I have gotten similar mileage myself. I drive a diesel manual. If you drive around 90kmph, rather cruise, you would be surprised by the mileage. Four people with continuous AC set to 25°c and 15 days worth of luggage, ample use of cruise control, I actually got a 20 kmpl. Tank full to tank full. The MID showed 21.4kmpl, but to be honest, there isn't much of an error. However, anything over 90kmph, the wind drag increases and the mileage drastically goes down, but have always given me around 16kmpl though. The mantra however is the cruise control and the right gear. I wouldn't however blindly follow the gear shift indicator to select the right gear. I have been driving way too long to let an MID dictate which gear I need to select. And if you need guidance from the MID to select the right gear, I would recommend the automatic.
Hats off to your patience. I can't drive with 80kmph for such long distance . Just came back from Mumbai to Dharwad yesterday night in my sunny xv petrol manual with 16kmpl driving at 110 to 120. Note: no road exist between belgavi to satara. It's hell of road.
It is better to take Pune - Solapur -Vijayapura - Hospete - Chitradurga - Bengaluru route which has far better roads.. The rennovation in the Satara route may take years to complete.....
I can relate this video with my drive to Mumbai from Chikamagalure in April month. The mileage of my diesel Manual Z8L was almost the same. In fact on my return journey the mileage was even more as most of the road after Pune was in decline. I had travelled with my family and parents.
With government's push towards ethanol blended fuel(EBMG)ngl I'm quite apprehensive of the near future. My car's manual specifically says no more than E10 blend and yet I'm clueless what I'm filling at the bunk. IOCL's XP100 is E15. While diesels are safe atm. The thing govt is chasing is far from ideal. Alas we can wait and only hope atleast we have the alternative. Nonetheless I enjoy the mellow vibes of your videos and hope you continue to do them whenever possible. Cheers.
Thank you. I truly feel your concern. It's sad that the government wants to implement so much in such little time. History has it that these hasty decisions have never given fruitful results, at least not for the consumer/common man. Let's see what future holds. Fingers crossed.
I do Kolkata-Guwahati (1100 Kms) on a single tank full (50 litres) in my Tata Harrier, thrice a year. I cruise at 90-100 Kmph. At 80 Kmph cruising it will give me way better.
Super Cooooool. I really enjoyed the Video as it is the specific purpose. You have got lot's of patience to ride around 80KPMH in beautifully tempting car like SN to attain this. and SN reads to be FE Vehicle, when driven around 80!!
Thats very good mileage.. looks like u drove around 1800 rpms.. they should make the gears a little tall so it can cruise over 100 at 1800 rpm.. that will save time too.. my mahindra never gave me more than 17 on highway drives.. the VW dsg is able to manage 22 plus in summers and 25 in winters cos it hits 120 around 2k rpm.. even my mercedes does 120 below 2k rpm.. thats very helpful really.. scorpio n is soooooooo much better than the previous ones.
Did this route from Goa to Mumbai in my ZS last month. The roads from satara to Belgavi is absolute shambles...and Pune traffic was a horror in the evening
This was a great informative video, I’m driving to Mumbai from Bangalore on this Thursday the 7th Nov in a BMW 3 series, planning to leave early morning and I have a couple of questions if you would kindly answer; 1. Is this the best route or is there an alternate. 2. Any personal restaurant suggestions during the journey
Thanks. There is an alternate and highly recommended one. Bangalore-Chitradurga-Hosapete-Vijayapura-Solapur-Pune-Mumbai. It's longer but the road conditions are just perfect for mile munching. Less than 2-3 constructions spots if I remember. My recommendation if you plan to take the said route would be to breakfast before Tumkur as the availability of restaurants are great. Between Chitradurga and Vijapura restaurants availability is not so great and might not cater to everyone's taste (snack up ). Between Solapur and Pune you can find plenty of restaurants again. However if you decide to take NH48( Blr-Hubli-Belagavi-Pune-Mumbai) you have options all the way. All the best and have a safe drive. 🙂
Bhai, if you fill in the brink of the diesel tank sometimes you will be shocked bcoz my diesel tank is 45 lts but it can take upto 50 lts surprise surprise 😮
Great job..since am from Hubballi, suggest you while return to get inside Dharwad and cross Hubballi and then to Bengaluru..,also on your return try some typical Maharashtra dishes at Virangula restaurant say 20-30 kms before Satara and a Chai break at Sai International 30kms before Kolhapur..there’s a good Vegetarian restaurant near Nippani bypass on the highway, missing the name.. and just after Davangere there’s Apoorva Resort,a good restaurant where both veg and nonveg is served..enjoyed your video..good luck for the return journey..
Nice travelogue. With incessant rains all over the country, i guess bad roads are the new norm, not sparing even our tolled highways. Btw can you put up the toll expenses for the trip. I have been given to understand the Atal link toll charges are pretty high.
Hello, I know you have tried to figure out the mileage on full tank to almost empty. But one piece of advice would be not to drop below 1/4 capacity of the tank reason being, if by any chance foreign particles from fuel enters into the injectors then you are not any far from getting mileage to getting engine servicing frequently.
Excellent detailed information. But plz help me to understand why people cry about that Mahindra engines extract pathetic FE figures, both in petrol as well as diesels. Also which variant are you using. Is it a D-MT 4×4 or normal RWD one??
Thanks! This is a D, MT 4WD. I have always got 15+ kmpl on highways. Above 120 kmph the mileage takes a huge hit, maybe that's why people have complains.
@@mukulslens ok so even the logic applies to big cars as well. Drive sedately around 80-90 kmph , use cruise control whenever possible & feather touch on the pedal.
How do you extract so much fuel efficiency? I was just a travelogue from Ahmedabad to Dwarka and the guy got 11-12 max. His was Scorpio N Z8 4WD AT. I assume yours is also 4WD but MT? I heard people that the mileage difference between Mahindra’s AT and MT was 1-2 kmpl. Also, why do you put a tape on the fuel tank?
Your right, it's MT 4WD. Manual gives freedom to shift up at will. I guess that's the only reason. I usually like to put a tape on fuel efficiency drives as a reminder for me to not speed unnecessarily.
Hi Mukul, How you are able to do all this long trips without having disturbance from your office works? In between i am also from Bangalore and recently i took Innova crysta and i do want have this kind of trips but unable to plan for those. Your suggestions may help me. Thanks in advance!!
There is a laptop on the rear seat. 😅 Most of my trips are in weekend. I usually make time/plan almost a month in advance. It's not easy, I understand what your saying. 🙂
Driving on highways is very easy but once we enter congested roads inside cities it becomes very difficult to manoeuvre any SUV. Cars are better be it sedans or hatchbacks inside cities
22.3KMPL seriously ??? 😳 Bro my SN never went above 12.3 KMPL and I drive 23K almost. Mine is Z8 AT 4WD...give some tips man to bring that fuel efficiency 😀
I think MT gives better mileage since we have freedom of shifting. XUV500 was a true beast with it's 70 L fuel tank. I feel they should have retained that in SN. 🙂

At what speed you were driving and was air-condition on all the time. What model is your vehicle?
