    Hello, love your work! I’m planning on dying my shoes black. I feel fairly comfortable with the dying process, but I don’t know about the finish process. I’ve seen in a lot of people using resolene to finish their dyed shoes, but I asked myself if I’m going to be able to normally take care of them. I mean to clean and condition them and afterwards polish them with shoe creme and shoe wax to give them a spitfinish. If I’m not able to because the resolene is a problem, would finish would you recommend instead?

    Hi Geordie, thanks for the video, I am learning so much. The Carnauba creme, do you apply it after dying veg tan leather, then foil stamp. Or would you apply Carnauba creme after foil stamping? Thanks.

      Hello Robert. Thank you for your kind words. It doesn't really matter - Applying Carnauba creme before or after is fine.

      Hi. I use Seiwa Tokonole burnishing cream, applied and rubbed firmly with a glass burnishing tool. This will flatten the loose fibres and keep them smooth. Use can use either finish. I prefer curnuba cream, personally.

      Yes. Carnauba cream is a fine wax, so with repeated application, this will do that.

      Most finishes don't give a waterproof coating. Resolene gives water splash protection but not full waterproofing.

    Hi, love your channel and love your eBay shop!
    I’m in the process of making a bag for my hubby, he’s now as much of a bag-o-holic as me now.
    I digress, I’ve dyed the lest her with black Fiebings Pro and done accents with blue. I’m now making the bag up and I’m finding that after working with the leather for a while my hands look decidedly grubby.
    What will be the best finishing to use to stop the leather bleeding like this. I’ve got edgekote which I’ve done the edges with after buffing and I’ve also got resolene and neatsfoot oil. What would be your advice please.

    • @HobbyBloxs
      @HobbyBloxs  4 года назад +2

      Bobbi Buttons Hello. Thanks for your question. Generally once the dye has had time to dry properly (about 24 hours) just giving the leather a good buff with a soft cloth should remove any dye residue. Resolene is more of a waterproof finish, so I’d prefer to use something like Leather Sheen or Carnuba Cream which are waxed based. This should seal the leather nicely without altering the colour. Hope this helps.

    That top coat finish has the same appearance as metalised floor polish. £8 for a small bottle or £8 for five litres

      Hello. Thank you for your question. Others may disagree, but this is my preferred work pattern: Cut, wet-mold, punch / carve, then dye, stitch, burnish, edge treatments and finally polish. I hope this helps.

    Hello, I have a question for you. I have recently bought a wallet and I noticed that the edge coat on one of the cards slots is split. So if I apply Edge Kote will it help it become intact again or it’s a lost cause and it should be returned or replaced?

    • @HobbyBloxs
      @HobbyBloxs  4 года назад

      Who is Bobbi? As for the wallet question - It is unusual to have any kind of edge finish on a card slot, as the leather is very thin here and is only one layer of leather (so there is nothing to split). It might be that the leather is bonded leather - not full leather. If this is the case, applying Edge Coat would not fix the problem.

    • @nahlaibrahim8883
      @nahlaibrahim8883 4 года назад

      Geordie Leather I don’t know how to add a picture but there’s an edge coat on all slots because it’s a fold over wallet so the slots are exposed not buried
