Thanks Matt for another educating and educational video. Matt The stores that carry the dragon fruit here in Houston the leaves are kind of dry and brownish in color. The fruit cost about 4.95 a pound, so what should I look for when choosing the right one should it be the one that looks like yours?
Hello Howard! If you can find one that looks like man then yes. Nice red/pink color and green on the leaves. But if all of them look the same, you are probably fine just grabbing any one of them. A few blotchy brown spots are okay, if there are lots that is usually an indication it is overripe. Let me know how it goes if you wind up trying one. :)
First they cost 2/$5.00 in Shoprite in New Jersey, second I like them by cutting them in half between the top & bottom & then using a spoon to scoop it out like it was in it's own serving bowl. I can't put a finger on the taste but they are pear like texture with a light taste between Kiwi, Blueberry & a pear from my families taste test.

The red/pink ones like this are not going to be sweet like the yellow ones. You could sprinkle a little salt on them or try a little bit of sugar. Or eat them in a fruit salad with other sweeter fruits.
I used to live in vietnam (I was born there actually) IIRC it was 10,000-20,000 dong $0.42-$0.85 per kilograms for the white-flesh. 30,000 dong $1.27 per kilograms for red-flesh. The conversion rate was a bit different back then im not sure the exact cost in 2023. I prefer the red flesh one for more sweeter taste.
Mmm. I've been tempted to eat one if these. What kinds of fruits would you recommend adding to a dragon fruit smoothie? I think some strawberries, pears, and a touch of milk might do the trick.
You can't go wrong with any of those fruits added with it, even some melon, like water melon would be nice. Maybe use water instead of milk. I would try a little piece on its own, as well, just to experience it without other tastes. :)

@@inthekitchenwithmatt a coworker of my husband's gave them to us. We live on Hawaii and these are the red ones. I had no idea how to tell if they were rip or not..lol
@@karencamp741 Yeah, they grow a lot of them in Hawaii. I don't think they ripen much after harvesting, so they are usually harvested when nearly fully ripe. Glad you got to try them. Try mangosteen if you ever get the chance! If you haven't already. I have a video for that too. ruclips.net/video/UHDoD-XfUOw/видео.html
