- My first time watching The Last of Us was definitely a shock. I was not expecting zombies...
Twenty years after a fungal outbreak ravages the planet, survivors Joel and Tess are tasked with a mission that could change everything! I'd probably only last 5 days... tops. Mainly because I'd run out of snacks and be stupid enough to leave the house and get some....

so here's the thing. this entire show is hauntingly beautiful stories of people surviving the post apocalypse that will make you weep, alternating with horrific scenes of them dealing with the monsters that caused it. it's severe emotional whiplash. that's the show.
Beautifully said. I feel like they really captured that in the scene when the solider shot Sarah. One of the nasty realities in a world like that. I am definitely gonna keep going. Thank you for watching!
I'm in the minority that thought TLOU2 was also a hauntingly beautiful story. A narrative mess but still well-told.
Hanging someone sneaking outside the QZ (Quarantine Zone) seems harsh. The reason for it is that every time someone sneaks out, they've also made a way for someone --or something --to sneak in. All it takes is one infected to sneak in at the right time and the whole place could get infected. In the game, there are places, zones, where enough people kept breaking the rules and everyone got infected.

No 2013, game of the year, all major voice actors won awards, one of the 3 best ps3 games ever made in my opinion and they aren't zombies(like the walking dead. They are alive but infected

I'm a marine corps vet. I would not have shot at innocent civilians in a situation like that. I've disregarded orders before and for something like that I'd for sure do it again.

I understand what you said but remember here there's been ppl bitten and the first thing Joel says is "my daughter is hurt, her ankle" and the soldier as follows says to his superior "one hurt" so hence he HAS to follow orders not bc he wanted to but dead ppl can't get infected and at this point they knew it was spreading like wildfire. Not defending them I hate they killed Sarah and it's mostly bc she was hurt. If she was never hurt in the crash, if she had used a seat belt Sarah would've been alive and we would deffo wouldn't have the story we have but. It's all parallels in TLOU there's always a parallel of action and effect in this case Joel told Sarah to put on a seat belt Sarah didn't, got hurt and as Joel said my kid is hurt they probs thought she was bitten, hence why he says sorry but has to follow orders bc this is spreading way too fast.
@CN 💕 that's very true. But the soldier on site wouldn't have had any knowledge of how Sarah was injured. Also, knowing how chain of command works, the guys at the bottom probably wouldn't even know what exactly is happening. Chances are they were told to make a perimeter, call in if anyone approaches and wait for further instruction. Which is what that soldier did. I didn't really sense much hesitation in the show but in the game you can tell the soldier didn't want to. I refuse to blindly follow orders if they don't sit right with me, consequences be damned. I lost rank 3 times and still got my Good Conduct Medal if that means anything to you guys about how I'd conduct myself. That's just me personally though, I'm not saying everyone would make the same decision.

When you are lost in the darkness… look for the light.
The thing that makes THE LAST OF US so insanely popular but different from THE WALKING DEAD is that TLOU is so filled with hope, humor and humanity. TWD was made in contrast to decades of tv shows where the good guys always win.
TLOU was made in 2013 in contrast to the first decade of 21st century, The Golden Age Of TV, Oz, Sopranos, The Shield, The Wire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, where the not so good guys were more triumphant. It felt more realistic than good guys always winning.
But after a decade of it, people got tired of sooooo much darkness, bleakness and want more light and joy and optimism. It is into this world that the game TLOU arrived and is reflected in the game--and now the tv show.
So, I think you would be able to handle the show because while there is a lot of darkness -- there is light, loads and loads of light to look to.

You lived in Austin? I'm there right now. Unfortunately, the city government incentivised tech companies to locate here, a crap-ton of Californians moved in for the better cost of living and high paying jobs, and thus the weird has been largely driven away. We were unable to keep it, as it were. The final nail was when Leslie died, in my opinion. RIP 🙏
I was dreading this show, as video game adaptations almost always suck. But, this was so well done, probably because the main guy behind the game is working on it, but also because they have fans of the game play some minor roles and provide input. Showing the game respect while also changing some things that still have that essence of what the game was about and tone. One of my new favorite shows now. It’s so good, but the game is still better lol, it’s a rare masterpiece imo.

I never played the game but do know the basics of the story and I am loving the show, the acting has been really good, the science used at the start, with the ants actually happens in nature which makes the show even more chilling

Excellent question about the fire disposing of dead bodies. Part of the benefit of the 20 year time jump it allowed the game maker and the show runner to skip over the usual zombie apocalypse deal of having characters having to discover how the zombies work, what senses they have, what weaknesses, etc.
That way they can say we know this amount of fire is needed because we've been burning bodies for years.

Marlene and her team were too badly injured after the fight with Robert and his guys to go with Joel and Tess. That's why she was offering to pay Joel and Tess to take Veronica / Ellie.
Yeah. . . so there's a major Game of Thrones spoiler in this. It makes me hesitant to watch the rest, not knowing what other shows or movies might be randomly spoiled.

@@MandyMooMovies There was a reference to Ned Stark that I think in context could be seen as a major spoiler. I've already seen the show, though, so it didn't spoil it for me. I understand that part of the criticism and analysis involved in doing a reaction can involve comparing and contrasting with other narrative works. I just hope that you're careful to at least not give major spoilers when possible. You were the second reactor in two days who I had seen do that, so I might have been a little sensitive to that.
I would just tone down the meme edits and focus more and emotions rather than talking , when you comment on every other scene it gets this pop quiz feel.
Yep, it definitely makes it feel like she’s not paying any attention to the actual show when every 2 seconds she starts just staring at the camera while making jokes about every single little thing. Like i guess some people might like reactions like this, but for me this isn’t something i wanna keep watching. It’s like my biggest reaction pet peeve when the reactor/s make jokes the whole time and don’t seem to pay any attention to the thing they’re watching. Like please, take at least some moments a bit more seriously.
